Horsefeathers,Buffalo Reuse,Old Editions

Horsefeathers
Today we went around to the various places to find door hardware. Unfortunately, no one had what we were looking for. I think it will require a blacksmith. Horse feathers over on Connecticut was the coldest fucking place I have ever shopped in. I am pretty sure it was warmer outside. I would never go back in the winter and I am sure I would never go back in the summer as it probably is too moldy and full of dog dander for me.

They have lots of stuff.

Looks like something (e:mike) would like.

Buffalo Reuse
Afterwards, we headed over to the ghetto to see if Buffalo Reuse had what we needed. They didn't either. The place was extremely disappointing to me. Same with the other time we visited over on Washington downtown before they over to North Hampton - which is an awesome street!!!

image

The prices were insane cheap but I would say 70% of the stuff was crap. There were some things that I couldn't believe anyone would bother reusing. They looked like crap from the get go. On the other hand, if you need a cheap door - it is the place to go. there were some doors as cheap as $10. also a place that requires hat, gloves, scarf as it is completely unheated.

I mean I think it is a good cause to keep stuff out of a landfill but I think they may need to re-evaluate what is salvageable. I know, everyone is going to hate me for saying this but I seriously think too much of it isn't going to go anywhere. maybe if they match up really poor people who need stuff with the crap that no one wants. I wish I took more pics so you could see but my fingers were too freezing after spending an hour at horsefeathers to press the camera button anymore.

The guy from Buffalo Reuse is supposed to come to our next block club meeting but I don't understand what they are going to say. Most of the stuff there was too craptastic for anyone to want in a fancy home and the people with fancy homes on our street are no looking to demolish so I am not quite sure it is a good match. Maybe if you need doorknobs, they have those.

On the way out of the East Side I spotted this nice house on North. I really liek this style house. I want to have one in the country someday.

Old Editions Book Shop
Then we headed over to old editions book shop in downtown Buffalo on Huron

This place was heated, unlike the other two shops, and had lots of great books and other collectibles. I think i could have bought a lot of things here if I had a lot of time and a library to fill. Or maybe if I read more or had interests outside of computing. Definitely worth the trip, I would go back.

They had some book on slang history where I learned the meaning of Queer Bitch
image

They had this fancy map that cost $4,000

Fianlly, I headed over to feelrite and the pet store on Delaware. They had this whole section of dog treats that were definitely marketed at humans. I mean I have seen dogs eat some nasty shit. I doubt they care if it has sprinkles on their sheep ear and eyeball goop crunchies.

I just wish somewhere had one of these horn chairs I really want.

Deconstruction and Reconstruction

Our house is slowly being returned to what it originally looked like. By the end of April it will look amazing. The additional space totally changes the dynamic of the room.

These first two pictures are before with the addon bathroom still there.

After work I took this pic but it was dark. Thew new window in the Hall makes it so much bigger and brighter. Now to replace it with some stained glass and 24 Linwood will be back to how it was, minus the wallpaper.

It is hard to tell from these pics but looking from the living room across the foyer, under the stairs and out the window makes it look huge.

Floors and Bathrooms

We decided to have the floors redone in the vestibule, foyer, dining room, living room, drawing room because we were thinking about being in the Linwood Home tour. Part of having the floors redone, involves removing the downstairs bathroom which was not original. We are supposed to have a beautiful free standing staircase but someone decided it was a good idea to add a bathroom under it.

So we wanted to move the bathroom into the drawing room closet or in the under the stairs closet. Unfortunately, neither place seems to want to work.

The drawing room closet is really just too small. It would be almost impossible to fit a toilet in the bathroom not to mention a not rail skinny person.

The under the stairs closet is awesome because it has plenty of space but the issue it is right over the electrical panel for the whole house. That seems like a bad idea having water over huge electrical panel. So the option there is to move the whole house electrical panel but that is a huge freakin job and I just don't have the time as the Linwood Home tour is April 27th and we are just about commit to be in it.

So what does this mean? It means we are going to give up the bathroom and not replace it right now in order to get the floors done and get the open staircase we wanted with the window. This is all with the intention of replacing it in the summer after moving the electrical panel in the basement. Either that or put a bathroom on floor three.

I can't wait till it is all open again and the window brings light into the foyer.

Freaky Co-incidence

I just spent the last couple hours searching for a fireplace and floor repairman on Angie's List It is a great way to search for service professionals in your area and see consumers feedback for them. I hope it works out. Ironically, the one company I set up an appointment with, Amherst Refinishing, was not on angies list but called me back five minutes after I put in an estimate request on their website - on a sunday night. We then set up an appointment for tomorrow. How crazy is that for web service?

Anyways, so I was still searching around when I found a link to some Goa music stuff going on in Germany. I am still obsessed with that type of music despite its absolute non-existence in my life. I kept searching for things I had been to in Germany to see if there was any video and it and I happened upon the site of an event that happen last night. I wish I could have gone. It is like the music my computer would dance to.

It made me think of my friend Yvonne from Germany who I hadn't seen in a long time and then all of a sudden, blam - I get a message from her on estrip. What are the chances of that. It has been years. I am going to call her tomorrow night.

Tether AT&T Tilt w/ Macbook and Leopard

I spent forever trying to figure out how to bluetooth tether with my ATT tilt o/ kaiser tytn II n my mac book pro with leopard. I wanted to be able to send out an email from the car. I have the wm wifirouter which turns yu windows mobile device into a wifi access point but that was too much battery power and I wanted to use bluetooth.

Bluetooth DUN
Bluetooth DUN would not work for some reason. I mean I could take the damn sim out of the windows mobile tilt, stick it in the nokia 7900 an tether with no problem but not with the tilt. The settings I used for that were.

Phone number: *99#
UserName: ISP@CINGULARGRPS.COM
Pass: CINGULAR1
access point: wap.cingular
CID:4

Unfortunately, even if it did work bluetooth DUN is so freakin slow that it is dialup style unbearable.

Bluetooth Pan
Amazingly, the mac OS X leopard and windows mobile 6 can network with bluetooth DUN which is incredibly fast Then I realized on the mac you could also use bluetooth pan. I never tried that before. It is way easier than bluetooth DUN and basically allows your bluetooth phone to share its network instead of dialing out through bluetooth as with DUN. It is so fast and multiple devices can access it at once. I was able to get 1300kbps dl and 150kpbs up.

image

To get the tilt to work with the Tilt and leopard you will need to use two system preference panes on the mac - network and bluetooth and one program on the tilt called internet sharing.

image

First, open internet sharing in the programs menu on the Tilt. If it is not there, just search for the internet sharing app on windows mobile on google and it will tell you how to find/enable it. One you got it running on the windows mobile, select bluetooth pan from the top drop down and media net form the bottom one, then hit connect.

image

Using the mac add your tilt as a paired bluetooth device. First, in your bluetooth system preference panel by clicking the + button at the bottom right and going though the bluetooth wizard. You will need to pair the devices using the wizard. While you are in there, check the "show bluetooth status in menu bar" checkbox so that you get the easy access bluetooth menu in your menu bar.

image

Choose the type any device when filling out the wizard

image

Then open you network system preference panel and select the plus in the lower left. A box will pop up, choose bluetooth pan and name it tilt or whatever you want. Then hit create and exit out of your network control panel.

image

Last in the bluetooth drop down that you enabled in you status bar at the top of the finder, select the tilt and then click connect to network. You should be all connected at that point.

image

Happy tethering.

The advertisement in the book

Here it is printed out and pasted into the Linwood Home Tour booklet. Their printer will be much nicer than the document printer I printed it out on. But this gives you a feel for it. As you can see most of the other advertisements are tiny. I am very happy with it now to just get around to calling the woman and writing the check.

image

Update - I changed it yet again. This time I decided to curve the bottom of the part the logo is on to make it look like more of an architectural element on a house and added the border at the top for the same reason.

The Lexington Coop - Eating a lot more

So my intestines have been doing so great. I have eaten just about everything and I have been able to determine by my elimination diet that milk products do make me kind of sick and that the milk problem is very much eliminated through lactase. I have eaten a minimal about of wheat but I haven't completely stopped eating it at I think I am ready to try pasta this week one day and see.

There are some squids, shrimp sushis, aspargus, rice, raspberrys and salad. Yes, I have been able to even eat salad again! I look so weird without my glasses.

image

The Lexington Coop
On another note, Kaitlyn from the Lexington Coop is seriously the hottest girl I have ever seen. Sorry ever other girl I ever saw but seriously she is so stunning. Both (e:matthew) and I get a silly around her. It is rare that we agree on anything, let alone a girl. I think she is the only girl that can make both of us get that nervous, teen boy feeling. Whoever is her boyfriend is one lucky guy.

Designing a one page ad for estrip

It is so hard to design with text and in black and white. Well not really but a little color would go a long way!! I am thinking with going with this abstract design right now but I might change my mind altogether tomorrow, now I need to eat dinner before 12:30!!

image

Here it is with the same font (e:empireoflight) - I had tried that earlier but was not totally sold on it. I can see it ties the logo in more with the e, but I kind of like how the e stood out before with the mini serif on the other font? I liked how the angled end of the e kind of pointed back at the white line which made me follow it back to the logo.

Maybe I will love it in a little bit. I just need to look at it more later as right now I am tired of even looking at any of it, lol.

image

UPDATE:
Maybe this one? I feel liek the one above makes my eye get trapped int eh bubble because the e is too in the center. I still have lots of days to decide.

The Linwood Avenue Block Club

Today we went to the block club meeting for the Linwood neighborhood block club. It was interesting to see the many types of people that live in our neighborhood. They were planning the Linwood Home tour which is raising money for the gateway to the neighborhood.

We had Judge Novak come to visit and we talked about neighborhood problems. The whole time I couldn't help but think how ridiculous our problems are compared to some Buffalo neighborhoods in dire straights.

One house really does stand out though. I think the address is 358 Linwood, the gray house on the 400 block on the Delaware side. It is definitely a sketchy rooming house I have been offered drugs there when walking buy many time which is extra sketchy for such a residential block. I hope they do end up taking care of it.

image

He did make a good point explaining that our neighborhood, along with Allentown, the Elmwood Village, Parkside and Delaware District pay the the highest taxes around funding many of our city services. If our prices dropped because people started doing thing like installing vinyl siding (one of the issues) then Buffalo would lose tax money - so he takes it very seriously.

Overall, my only complaints are with the Church of the Ascension's trash they gets all over our lawn from their numerous overfilled trash bins that get left out for a week at a time. Unfortunately, I couldn't really discuss it because they were holding the meeting at the church, lol.

Advertisements for the Linwood Home tour are cheap. I think that I will go ahead and get a $100 full page one for estrip? The proceeds go to the gateway fund. It seems like such a steal for something that ~1000 people will see. Last time they had 800. Plus when was the last time I got to design something for print.
