Swimming at Windmill Point Quarry in Fort Erie

We make the trip to Canada all the time to go swimming at Windmill Point because the water is so clear. We go so much that this time we had 2 free swims from the frequent swimmer pass.

The difference was this time the water was so full of algae I could barely see my feet underwater. Last year we came for (e:Terry)'s birthday at the same time of year and it was was clear then.

Scenic Vermont

I love swimming in clean water. The ledges reminds me of a larger version of the quarry we swim at in Canada. Its so deep and there are tons of fish. I really feel like I could live here but I would miss city life. If only it was closer.

Swimming at Windmill Point Rock Quarry

Yesterday (e:terry), (e:matthew) and I went swimming at the quarry again. This time we spent a lot of time in the middle with goggles. There us some crazy stuff down three including a pirate ship with mast and skeletons, a bathtub and a large recreational boat. It was fun trying to swim down far enough to touch it. Next weekend I am bringing nose plugs.

Windmill Point Park Rock Quarry Rocks

I had the best swimming experience I have ever had in the area at Windmill Point Park Rock Quarry in Fort Erie

The downside is it's in Canada across the bridge and the border drama is annoying.

Other than that it is the first time I have been swimming in clean water in so long. It was crystal clear, so much that I felt comfortable opening my eyes under water.

We swam across and back. Its nice because although they have a supervised lifeguard area you can swim wherever the frick you want at your own risk.

The water is cool but refreshing rather than freezing. It gets about 40ft deep and the lifeguard said its fed by 17 springs.

I dove off the rocks after (e:libertad) jumped in. They also had this giant blow up rock wall slide.

It cost $8.50 Canadian to get in but its worth every penny. The lifeguard said they have a season pass too.

They also have camping for $27.

Swimming at the beach

I am so glad I got to go swimming. I have no pictures but (e:heidi,52672) , took some. Just like when it is warm out and the super shallow is super warm, today that part was super cold. Once it was deep enough to swim in the water was about the same as usual. The water temp doesn't fluctuate as fast as the air. It was so great to swim without the lifeguards present. You could actually go out to where you could swim instead of wade.

I really feel like they need to change the whole system during the summer. Make it swim in the lines in for protection or swim outside at your own risk. Even if it is 18 and over something but I would really like somewhere you could just go out and full on swim. Seems like every other city on water has beaches like that. It makes me hate Buffalo sometimes.

Swimming 2009

While the lake is probaly too cold to swim in still, (e:Terry) and I managed to go swimming at Zoar Valley on Friday. It was so amazing to swim again. The creek was pretty fast and about belly button high on me. You could get in on one end and just let the current drag you downstaream. The current was strong enough to be fun but not so strong that you couldn't stop at any point.

The bottom was an almost totally smooth shale base from erosion. I hope this is the beginning of a lot more swimming but who knows with all the beaches closed.

You'd get in here

and then float down past here

and here..

Bennett Beach Swimming Fun

I went to Bennett Beach with (e:jim), (e:james), (e:terry), and (e:matthew). I think it was probably the most fun I ever had at the beach. The waves were really like up to 5+ feet high and slammin. At first the life guards made us get out of the water. After a short while we just went down the beach far enough away from their overlording and jumped in. It was so awesome. Lots of other people soon followed.

I think it might have been the most fun moment of the summer besides dancing to Andy C at WEMF 2008. For once we were all having fun doing the same thing. Well, accept for (e:jim) - he sat on the beach and read programming books about erlang - dork!

I wish I took pictures but I totally forgot about it for once because I was so involved in the moment. I want to go back the next time it is warm and windy.
