Basra Likes Currants

After the farmers market I let Basra share in the treats. He seems to really like currants.

Squid Eggs Sacks and Babies In Provincetown

While we were here we kept some squid ( Loligo pealei) eggs in a water bottle to watch them hatch. They are the cutest freakin things with their tiny little eyes and wings. I wish we had a way to grow them into full adults at home.

There are millions of their egg pods that washed up on the beach. They look like clear bags of caviar but there is a squid inside each little egg in the sack. Eventually they break out and swim around.

Basra The Tortoise In A Tank

So the tortoise has taken to dragging the canoe around the backyard as a sort of tank weapon. It really allows him to destroy just about anything. I find it so funny that a beast that already had a shell on his body now is driven to drag around a much heavier shell. He is so strong bow that I literally sat Indian style on his shell the other day and he dragged me around.

Dirty Bastard

Basra was so happy to come in and be warm today. He is so dirty from his burrough. He sat under his heat lamp for about 8 hours. Now that he is so big it takes a while for him to warm up.

Basra The Dirty Tortoise

He is so filthy from digging in mud. I think he likes it for the humidity at night but its got to suck being that dirty and gritty afterwards. His face was so covered in dry caked on mud.

Busy boy basra

B is gone and Basra has to dig his own holes. Who knew he could dig like this? I mean he dug a small tunnel in 2006 but this is full on brick moving and mountain building. He seriously must be bored or angry now that he can't rape all day.

Basra the Sulcata Drinking From Hose

Another 640 x 480 video because I forgot to change the camera to the HD setting, ugh. Anyhow, here is proof that sulcatas will basically drink from a hose. Basra even likes to drink from the sprinkler.

Tortoise Poop Compost

It is unreal how much poop those two tortoises make. This pile from this week alone and that's not even all of it.

Its pretty much just grass and weeds. If you leave it long enough it turns back into that. I read online that because they eat no meat, it makes great fertilizer so I have been composting it.
