Sirius Rising 2011 - Turtle Fire

If you are reading this and have any pictures of Sirius RIsing 2011 that you can share with me, please click the message me link under my photo and send me a message. Sadly, I couldn't take many pics because my phone battery died.

What a great fire it was. Partway through the night they rebuilt it to add a gigantic vertical hollow log. The fire tending crew was awesome.

UPDATE: This is someone else's video of the main fire being lit on youtube.

Hellenic festival

we went to the Greek festival today. It's mostly a food festival.

image
image

The food is really just like Greek diner food and despite Greece being a land of seascapes, it includes no seafood. That made me sad. They even had all these historical picture of fish and fisherman.

image

The only thing I can think of is that the people who founded that church were mountain Greeks.

My favorite part is the loukoumi, which are also known as Turkish delights. I am obsessed with them. I decided to just learn to make them, although I bought a pack of rose flavored ones.

image

The really surprising parts were learning how the Greek orthodox felt about Catholics is how the Catholics feel about the Protestants. Also I learned there used to be five patriachs till the pope got power hungry. Well, at least that is their story.

On the way out the pig man christians were protesting the Greek festival with a similar furvour to the way they protest Thursday in the square. It's so weird now that they protest everything. I hope they protest the Italian festival and guidos beat the shit out of them.

This seems like a bad translation - "Our ancestor's once proved useful to humanity"

Elmwood Arts Festival

The elmwood arts festival is great. Well, at least when you don't live there. I remember living on Lafayette and Elmwood, the stage was right outside our bedroom window. It was insane to wake up to testing 1, 2, 3.

image

I really go just for the artichokes. They are so good, I have a hard time deciding what kind to get. Does anyone know if these people ahev a restaurant somewhere? I think they are caled "Artichoke French."

Canal Fest Sunday For the Fireworks

On the way there we saw serenity shack. Ironically, it is right next to the war store.
image

Then we arrived at canal fest. I wish I had something good to say about canalfest.
image

The canal is so full of shit.
image

The zebra muscles love it, look how they cling to the shopping cart.
image

I missed the republican clams, lol.
image

I drank the lemonade and so did (e:mike) Afterwards I looked at the lemon in my drink, it was sick.

image

The ferris wheel looked cool at night.

Don't they look canaltastic.

Italian Festival

We made it out to the Italian Festival. I think I only went one other time since it was on Hertel. I remember the old Italian Festival on Connecticut Street very well. My grandparents would always take me when I was a a kid. But when it moved over to Hertel Ave. itw as too far away.

image

The food was delicious. I had fried calamari, fried ravioli, tortelini in vodka creme sauce, peach and raspeberry italian ice, italian sausage, streak and dandelions, clams, and ice cream. I love whatever that lobster hot place is, even if it is not overhwelmingly italian. They have really good seafood.

image

They had some sort of Italian Dancers from our sister city in Italy. Sorry the pic is so blurry.
image

The fried calamari from Lombardos are the same lame, pre-fab frozen ones that you get a Casa Di Pizza. The ones down the street at Fillippos - were so much better. You could see them actually breading the calamari and frying it. Not to mention tha it was a combination of legs and rings which I prefer. (e:mike) only likes the rings.

I don't know what it is about Lorigos but people were willing to wait over a half an hour in live to get their food. The flyer said they were a wholesale place form Grant Street. Somehow, in my whole Buffalo Italian life I never got introduced to that. It can't be that far away from Guercios.

image

Yummy italian ice. It had the perfect consistency and flavor to me.

image

I wish I could have gotten more pictures but my hands got so greasy so fast.

How can they always have free ice cream everywhere? Did anyone try it at the taste or at the Italian Festival.

Allentown Art Festival And MIA

The Allentown Art Festival is getting so crazy. It is bigger and bigger each year. It actually feels like you are at some big city festival. I think Buffalo is really growing. At the same time, having it so big seems almost detrimental to shopping. You seriously feel like you are holding everyone uo when you stop for a second.

(e:holly) said taking pictures of people's art is stealing. I don't really agree but it made me feel paranoid about filming the stuff.

The freakin' scientologists have littered the streets with their trash.
