Coconut Gelatto and Brown Rice

This is my new favorite thing. I didn't want to eat rice plain but I figured I should eat some carbs because my meal consisted of only vegtables and smoked chicken breast.

I decided to combine the cooled brown rice with icecream. I suppose it draws inspiration from rice pudding and add a good amount of fiber yo the dessert component of my meal. This one is coconut gelatto based.

Tron Guy - Net Neutrality

Maybe all you fbookers saw this already but I just stumbled across it today and found it quite entertaining. I wonder if this is how I come across sometimes.

Forced Air - Furnace Filter

16x25x1. I am sick of not being sure what size filter I need so I figured I would write it down here instead of on some random piece of paper. I wish so bad I had radiators instead of forced air. I feel like it is killing me. The years I had radiators I breathed so much better.

I wonder just how expensive it would be to convert to modern radiators. Anyone have any experience with this.

The snow is so shiny

I wish I had a better camera than my phone. It is the shiniest, sparkliest snow ever but my phone won't do it justice.

Colors

At work I designed and programmed the new intranet over the last year. Instead of jamming a color scheme down people's throats I decided to let people choose there own color and then created a formula to scheme from there.

People seem to like it because out of the ~1,500 people that use a computer each day, almost 1,000 chose a color.

You would be surprised at how many people pick hot pink/peach and bright oranges. There are even a few hot sea foam greens. To be fair there are many more woman, but even some guys have pinks and purples.

Its funny because the corporate push/marketing designers would be for corporate blues and boring greys but clearly, the people voting with colors picked much brighter hues.

This fire orange, I copied from (e:tinypliny) who had it for a while.

The saturated areas are the parts you kind of ignore, like you links to most used content, etc. The white space is then focused on things like the search and content areas.

You can pick pastels too but I really like the bright colors.

Each one of those dots on the quilt represent a color swatch that people chose. The color scheme is from one of the users.

Today the videographer told me that my work is ugly because I am not a designer. Ugly is so subjective. The ironic part is I actually have an MFA in computer media studies. I wonder if he does?

My Newer Dreamphone

That went fast. Just as soon as I thought I wanted that phone, this one came out It has a dual processor, and a webtop accessory that lets the phone become a netbook. I hope it is available by my birthday but I doubt it.

No android port for xournal ;(

I wish that xournal would get ported to android. It would so incredible to have an app for PDF notation and highlighting on android. I wish I was able to do it, but its so out of my league and I don't have much freetime to work on anything else.

I first found the app when I was using the nokia N810 back in 2008 (e:paul,43019). Since then I used it a bunch on my linux desktop although a windows port exists too.

I keep searching, each time I hope someone will have done it. I mean the source code is available so I imagine its only a matter of time before it or something like it comes out.

Garrett County Ham from Lexington Coop

Last week I bought a 10lb nitrate-free/antibiotic free Garret County Ham from the Lexington coop. It was $3.99/lb which isn't that bad and considering we ate Ham for like 3 meals a day for a week and still have some frozen, it was totally worth it. I freaking love ham.

Example daily Ham diet:
  • chopped Ham and scrambled eggs for breakfast
  • split pea and Ham soup for lunch
  • Ham steak with rice and veggies for dinner
  • Ham and vanilla ice cream smoothie for dessert
  • procuitto wrapped Ham and cheese with cracker snack plate

image

UPDATE: I was just at the coop and they have a bunch more for $1.99/lb. That only $20 for a 20lb Ham.

Nook Development

I updated my android SDK as I am now on eclipse Helios 3.6 and I wanted to make a few updates to the estrip publisher app since seeing it on the nook tablet.

I discovered they do have their own nook SDK which is nice but on the shitty side it only works with their nook emulator so far. This is cool if you don't have a nook but not so cool if you do. I remember from the estrip app. Testing on the Nexus One was so much better than on the stupid emulator. Its just not the same trying to get a feel for it. Luckily, a rooted nook will let me put apps on it for testing but its annoying and a hack.

I wish so bad that B&N would just allow the regular android store. Having it on my rooted nook is incredible. It makes the device so damn useful that I can't put it down. In fact I love typing on it with the new gingerbread keyboard I downloaded.

I mean, I get why they don't want it. I am sure they are terrified of people using the kindle app on it and buying book from amazon instead. They shouldn't have too much to worry about because the reading experience on the native nook app is so much better than with the Kindle app. For example, kindle won't let me pinch and zoom on my books. Plus the notetaking and sharing quotes, lending feature, etc.

I can't wait for them to open up whatever market they are going to open. I would love to get in on it but it seems like they are really playing up to the big company devs more than the small guy. Reading through the forum this is pissing off a lot of developers who feel they if they are going to be treated as second class devs, they might as well develop for the ipad's larger market.

Well, anyways, here is hoping that whatever it is I end up developing finds its way into the store when its done and they I stay dedicated to working on it without knowing for sure if it will. Its just so hard to be motivated for something that might just turned down at the last stage. That's exactly why I never developed the estrip app for iphone.
