Salting Your Sidewalk is Illegal?

Who knew? Just about everyone salts their sidewalks in the winter yet according to Buffalo City Code 413-52 "Methods of removal and disposal locations (of snow)"

C. No person shall use salt, lime or any deleterious substance to remove snow or ice from the sidewalks or paved portion of any street or public place or from the track or tracks of any street surface railroad, except upon curves, switches, turnouts and at street crossings.

Charter and Code of the City Of Buffalo, NY

I was looking for the "CHARTER AND CODE OF THE CITY OF
BUFFALO" So I went to the city of buffalo site to try and find the entire ch and after a but of searching I found a link on the city of Buffalo site that takes you to an external site with the codes.

Either way here is the charter and code of the city of Buffalo in case anyone else is looking for them.

Here is the online viewer version:

And here is the basic viewer version:

What's even more ridiculous is that the terms of service say this might not even be the most current or legislation.

The on-line municipal codes ("E-Codes") and/or any other documents that appear on this Website may not reflect the most current legislation adopted by the municipality. General Code provides E-Codes for informational purposes only. E-Codes should not be relied upon as the definitive authority for local legislation. Additionally, the formatting and pagination of E-Codes varies from the formatting and pagination of the official copy. The official printed copy of a code of ordinances should be consulted prior to any action or decision being taken.

It seems like the city should have to just provide the most current version of this information in a single document format on their own website. Is it really so expensive to maintain this compared to farming it out to vet another vendor?

Buffalo 311 Holiday

So the people at the church next store were parked on the grass again today but for once that is not the focus of this entry. The weird thing these ones are parked half on and half off the grass. Clearly they have enough room to just part on the stones. I wonder if the problem is that the edge of the grass is muddy from them driving on it, so they went to park further over to get out on more solid grass.

I decided to call 311 again but when you call today it says they are not open due to the holiday. Really? Good friday is Buffalo City holiday. That seems so ridiculous. All of their workers are Christians?

I also found a city of Buffalo Document that says parking of standing in front of a private driveway is a $20 fineable offense.

The waterfront by lasalle park

I took this pic of the waterfront near lasalle park from on top of city hall. I wonder what the part of town used to be where those apartments and the school ate located. Was lasalle park larger or were they houses that got knocked down?

Still parked on the lawn

The car is back in the lawn.

Parking on the grass is definately illegal. This morning I called the city to confirm.

Just in case the church "doesn't know which this is." I am adding a license number.

Remuddled or Original

I am sure this place looked much nicer when it was red brick. The thing I wonder most is, what was up with the front entrance. Clearly the top stone appears fancy but then the inner brickwork which narrows the passage is so ugly. What's the deal?

a. Simply a remudle added onblater to support it?
b. It just looked better in red brick?
c. It never looked good?

Parking on the lawn

(e:Matthew) talked on the phone with the warden from the church last night. The guy sounded surprised people parked on the lawn. Then this morning as I left for work - another car on the lawn.

Who the fuck thinks it's normal to park on the lawn in an urban setting? Especially one with plenty of free street parking and even a spot in the driveway right next to it.

It is so trashy looking, not that the grounds at the church can look much trashier at this point with all the grass ripped up from the plow and the leaves from last year having destroyed the remaining grass.

Internet Issue?

Weird, our internet went down for like 20 minutes. Well not all connectivity - but all domain resolution on each computer at once. They are all trusting the router, which in turn uses time warner's DNS. Then it suddenly came back up. The weird thing is amazon and buffalo rising worked the whole time.

Primary DNS Server: 24.92.226.11
Secondary DNS Server: 24.92.226.12

Maybe I should switch back to opendns.
