Wegmans Organic Chicken sucks

I bought Wegmans organic chicken thighs and legs several times and if I didn't eat them the day I bought them they would reek like sulfer. Seriously, I threw them out like three times before I stopped buying them. At first I thought it was because I opened the fridge a lot, or didn't put them away fast enough.

I switched to the freebird brand at the coop and haven't had any trouble. Then today in (e:mike)'s car I saw this letter from Wegmans admitting the problem. I never got one!

The problem with Wegmans and other places, including the COOP, is that the freeze by or sell by dates are not accurate. I'm sure Wegmans put a lot of pressure on the source to increase the shelf life.

I also would like to say that not just a FEW people have complained about this. You should demand some free freaking chicken thighs. I didn't get a freaking coupon either. Screw you Wegmans. I have an updated card of my own too. First you take away sales, then you take away probably a dozen different items that I used to buy on a consistent basis, then you sell nasty ass chicken thighs.

fing writes at 10:23:42 10/24/10 - Comment #59036: We did not buy the organic chicken but they had a brand that they carried a brand that was between regular and organic chicken. They have however just discontinued them which sucks for us. It was not free range but did not have any hormones injected in it. It was about 7 to 8 dollars for 3 breasts. They were really nice and I don't think we ever had a problem with them. One thing about Wegmans is that they do take customer service seriously. My wife has written letters in the past and employees have called to follow up with her and get feedback.

I never got my letter either. I have really had some issues with meat at Wegmans over the past couple of years. Yesterday I bought scallops from them only after the guy at the counter allowed me to smell them. I have had to return chicken, a bag of half dead mussels, and tuna that stunk of ammonia. These are just the ones I returned there was definitely more that I just threw away. I have been buying most of my beef and pork at Dash's, The Bidwell market and Spars. The unfortunate thing is finding fresh fish is a tall order in Buffalo. I do go to Hayes occasionally, but I have had bad arctic char from there too. I guess I can only eat seafood in restaurants :(

Dying to get into Forest Fawn

(e:matthew) and I walked home from the pet store on delaware in north buffalo. Because of the bridge construction we ended up walking home down the wrong side of delaware on the grass by the cemetary. I don't know why they never added a sidewalk to the cemetary side of deleware or even worse on the delevan side which seriously looks like crap and is a huge death trap.

Anyways, by the time we got to the bridge we had two choices. Go over the spiked fence or walk over the highway like bridge with no real shoulder into oncoming traffic.

I opted to hop the fence. At first we had hoped we could go down and along the water but they even have water boundaries. I have to admin I was slightly afraid of one of us getting impaled but we both made it. I would not suggest it.

Almost a Fire

Just before we left for a birthday party the tortoise heat lamp started on fire. Luckily, the fire melted the wire and severed the connection.

SNAP and candy

I find it ironic having a Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program advertisement on giant bags of candy.

That being said if the government chooses the foods that make the cut then any place that sells them you should be able to use the card. Rite Aid does sell some good food along with walgreen's. Just playing devils advocate here, but what is wrong with a little candy it has Chocolate and Sugar and can be used as a treat, can you get it with food stamps? It would be better if people used it at someplace cheaper, but what is the government supposed to do pick every single retailer that is allowed to use the card, that would never work.......

"Soft drinks, candy, cookies, snack crackers, and ice cream are food items and are therefore eligible items

Seafood, steak, and bakery cakes are also food items and are therefore eligible items"

This seems to me like another failed government program. Looking at the eligible retailers in my neighborhood :::link::: it seems fairly obvious that some places should absolutely not be included. It's mostly convenient stores and drug stores. The only places that in my mind even qualify as actual grocery stores is the Lexington Coop and Price Rite. That's out of ten qualified retailers. I'm sorry but Rite Aid doesn't have a single healthy item.

They, like anyone else, are free to buy whatever they want. But when the state provides the food as a free nutritional supplement, it should be nutritional.

Things with little or no nutritional value should not be included. Otherwise, we end up paying for the crap to go into the people and then for their medical expenses to treat the diseases associated with eating crap.

libertad writes at 11:11:21 10/23/10 - Comment #59015: That is all very controversial right now. They want to do away with allowing benefits to be used for soda. Lots of strong arguments for and against. It could get really complicated if they started to limit which food items you can and cannot get. They do it to some extent by not allowing beer purchases.

Long Day

I had one of the longest days ever. It was one of those days with like 10,000 unrelated things that all wanted all of my attention. I never ate lunch planning to try and get out a little early. Instead I made it home around midnight.

At one point I needed to get onto a server to fix the issue and the monitor to the KVM stopped working after it the screen wavered and twitched a bit. It was like the server version of a Simpsons Halloween special.
