My Latest Project

You may ask yourself where is (e:paul) and all the new stuff that usually happens every two weeks. Well, he got roped into a million and half other things. Soon I will be back and there will be a bizillion updates I'm sure.

In the mean time I have been hired to work on stuff for the Virtual Reality Department at UB. My first task was redoing their web site which used to look like this.

image

Now it looks like this. The white is supposed to be the profile of one of the characters I created for one of Josephine's VR projects and the yellow shooting out the eyes is the beam from the projector that make sthe VR happen. The grommets are just my usual grommets from Cinema 4D. I wonder how (e:strip) made it so far without them. I put the beta version here
image

The biggest changes however are in the way it is coded. Now it is XHTML compliant with js separated from HTML and style separated from content. It can also be updated by the professors there without work on my part. Hopefully, that works out.

I like this logo even if gears are cliche.

image

I love how the spell check always wants to change Josephine's VR project to Josephine's VCR project!

On a side note while I was checking the new page for XHTML compliance I tested out the media studies site at UB and wow what a totally not standard piece of crap code job it is. It doesn't even have a doctype not that it would be valid for any doctype. The css and javascript are all included in the main doc instead of included as external files so that they could be cached. It is basically lame code side, although it at least looks nice.

It just proves the fact that I wasted so much time and money at the crappy school. The guy who taught the web classes sucked so bad. I heard that he was paid like $7000 to make that site and then paid students to do it for like $500.

Grant Street

[size=m]Grant Street[/size]
(e:metalpeter) [inlink]metalpeter,428[/inlink] Here are my answers about Grant Street.

I think that Grant Street will experience some of the riches from the elmwood area but I don't know if that is necessarily a good thing. It just depends how far it goes. It is good for investors and for people with money who want to "settle" the neighborhood but generally it will drive prices up and poor people out. And where do they go, then? Gentrification totally changes the demographic of the neighborhood. Some people describe that as progress. I my opinion it's not always that good.

I mean, I think it is important for people to move in that care about their neighborhood. And I defiantly think that slum lords and crack houses need to be dealt with but if it goes too far, it will end up like yuppified elmwood where the price of housing jumped from the $400-$600 range to the $700-$1000 range much faster than general inflation. You can just see it in the prices of Wilson's Farms. They are way higher than we pay over here near main street. (e:terry) could say more about that.

The worst scenario is that it gets bought up by out of town investors who then rent the houses at out of town prices. Gentrification is nice for the settlers but not for the people who already live in the neighborhood.

Basra Javascript and Bookshelves

While eating breakfast this morning i realized most of the books I own are just for decorative purposes. I wonder what that means for the future of books. I want a Sony libre

image

I feel bad for Basra because he has no idea that his summer wonderland paradise is coming to and end. Although his luxury condo is nice. He definitely prefers to be outside. I guess he probably has some idea because he dozen't get to sleep outside at night anymore.

image

I worked with students for about 5 hours yesterday helping them build javascript games. It is fun when it works.

Shopping Life

Today we went shopping for new shoes for (e:terry) and (e:matthew). We only go about once every two years so by the time we go it is really necessary. I didn't get shoes because I spent too much on my phone annd I bought a pair of shoes one year ago. One more year to go!!

I wrote a letter to (e:twisted) at the mall while eating tastu teriaki chicken. Well not tasty but satisfying because I was so hungry. Poor (e:matthew) could barely eat anything. For some reason the cingular smtp server wasn't working so I couldn't send it. She also wasn't on IM when I tried so here it is.

image

Afterwards we went to elmwood to get clams one last time before summer ends. They are so yummy.

image

I saw that (e:jason) and (e:joshua) took down the banner, so if any wants to be the new home of it, it needs a new home. I would put it on linwood but i don't think it would serve it's purpose.

I made a new wallpaper for my phone. It appears smaller here than on the phone screen which is 640 x320

Congratulations Deidre and Rich

I went to (e:haikuster)'s wedding [inlink]matthew,618[/inlink] yesterday with (e:matthew) and (e:terry). It was a beautiful ceremony at the Deleware Park Rose Gardens which look much nicer now that they planted flowers where the rose bushes died.

It was nice to see (e:haikuster)'s parents too. I hadn't seen them in years. It was so strange to see (e:haikuster), my first girlfriend, get married.

::DOWNLOAD SOUND::

Sorry I have been so absent from everyone else's life this week. I am really busy trying to get my data sorted. (E:matthew), (e:terry) and I had fish (blue smiley), chicken (yellow smiley), and beef(red smiley). I had gotten the salmon but matthew couldn't eat the beef gravy so I had to switch. I was actually quite happy about it. I felt bad for (e:rachel) because everyone was talking about killing and eating animals and she is vegetarian.

Strange Day

Okay, I know everyone is sick of hearing about my phone but I just found a way to watch streaming video and listen to streaming audio with real-player. It is so great. It not because I can watch TV on the go. But because I can watch and listen to german TV and podcasts on the go. Maybe I will start liking German again.

This morning I went with my dad to help some lawyer who helped us out, fix his computer. He was a realy nice guy with an office on Hertel. I wa slooking around his office and he was the president of the Buffalo School Board for fifteen years. The problme with his computer was something with the quicktime browser update function hijacking dial-up. It was the first time I could say to someone that my phone was faster than their computer!

While we were out to breakfast my father said we are seeing the downfall of America unfold. I have a feeling he is right. He usually is.

Driving in the Dark

I got some awesome pics swinging the new phone aorund while driving. Nothing beats a phone that is an mp3 player. It makes commuting so much fun. Can anyone else believe what is happening to gas. This afternoon when I first went to cingular it was about $2.59 then by about 4PM it was about $3.09, then it got up to almost $4.00. (e:jesse) saw it at $3.78 and (e:mike) said some of the gas stations closed down.

Thank god I have amassed a collection of more than a thousand bus and metro tokens. Sometime they will be really valuable.

clngular

I switched to cingular for 130k/s service. Because it is an unlocked phone there ls no service contract. Next month I will have to cancel it and get it in (e:terry)'s name because (e:terry) gets a 20% government worker discount. That is a good savlngs on $45/month.
