Torturing myself with IE

As a torture for myself I am using IE for PC the whole day, just to make sure everything with the site works there.

UPC and grading

I also have a couple other projects I would like to get started on. One is a giant database with UPC codes that people can access online. Users can then upload pictures to match the UPC codes. The end users can imput their daily consumables as UPC codes and get a image based on the item images. It would be exciting to see the collages in different neighborhoods, classes, and regions. It would be best if I had a UPC code reader. I doubt they are too expensive. Does anyone have one? I fnot I will begin hunting for one.

I think that you can generally assume the more objects in your day that you come into contact with that have UPC codes, the more generic your life experience is. If you think about all the stuff you have , anything that has a UPC is most likely not a unqiue item. I mean you can still do unique things wiith the item (i.e. a computer). But then think of something like a blanket your mom made for you. It has no UPC and is very unique. However, a blanket your mom bought at target has a UPC, and manufactured feeling that anyone can experience. Usually the things without UPC codes make you feel very special.

I have so many projects on hold right now. I wish i could just an extra life for them. Maybe when school is done I can focus on the million and a half art projects out there waiting for me. I keep deciding to write something and then get distracted with something I want to add to the site. It is both a curse and a blessing to be the person who makes new stuff. It is fun because I can make the site do whatever I want. For example, I was sick of scrolling to the entries and made the nav box, but othertimes it is totally consuming because it is so hard to decide not to add new stuff. I could honestly, sit and program 24 hours a day because it is so fun and I have so many ideas bu then I would have no friends - well accept (e:twisted).

On another note, my intro students had to make a web site for a futuristic product and one of them chose "chesse cigarettes." This is a graphic from their web site, unfortunetly it is offline or I would just give you the URL.

New Nav Box

I updated the nav box once again. Now when you clos eit, it returns you to the top of the page. It is also draggable. If you click on the T it brings you to whever you have the "Top Twelve List" if you click on C it brings you to wherever the chat is. S toggles the scrollbars although it works them both on and off.

Updates are making me crazy

I have been updatign javascripts more. Now there is a title nav box. It is found between the scroll bar toggle and the large print icon at the top. Here is what the nav Box on ewest looks like. The one here is the same but green. There are a few littl ebugs with the movement arrows that I am working on but it generally works well to quickly navigate around the site..

A challenging day of javascripting

I finally finsihed the scroll, large print javascripts. writing javascripts is not all that tough, however, making them work on every system is. As far as I can tell the scroll and no_scroll witch works on FireFox for Mac and PC, IE for Mac and PC, and safari. Having checked anything else but I can't see why it wouldn't work in netscape either. I am so glad it is done. Now I can move onto other thing.

When you are logged in it defaults to the prefererences you have set in your preferences control panel. You can alwasy change you preferences or simply click the S in a circle at the top of any journal.

The large print icons also work on every browser now, so all you blind people can still read the entries, I will be adding a preference for that too.

Twisted is Comming

Twisted is coming to etown. I am so excited. We will eat sushi and communicate without typing. I wonder if my finger will twitch while talking to her, haha.

The scroll and no scroll switch at the top of the journal now works totally with javascript so that you no longer need to reload the page between switching styles. The large print icon at the bottom of each journal entry works the same. I will probably be adding a lot more stuff in the near future but right now I have to go grade papers again.

(e:soyeon) , have a good flight to Korea, we will miss you. I am sure I will keep in contact with you while you are there.

Moka looks open again

This is a picture of Moka before it was open.

I noticed it looks fixed now, it must be good as renovation took about a year, right? Has anyone been there yet? It's not really in my hood, but I am willing to check it out if anyone wants to go.

Emily And Evan

Emily and Even came to towna t about 2:00am this morning. I stayed up and talked to them before fixing the spell check and then sleeping till noon. After that I went with (e:mike) to Canisius so that I could drop off a copy of my exam and pick up the last of the student work to grade.

Evan bought (e:terry) this great video game where you are some sort of magnetic ball called a Katamari and you collect everything in site for the king of the universe. it's pretty fun to watch. I would have loved to be the modeler for this game. Everything is so low polygon and cute.

Tonight, I am heading over to (e:soyeon) 's with (e:terry) and sang for some tasty Korean food and to discuss the poster. Does anyone have access to a print shop for the posters/postcards when they are done?

Grading The Tardy

I am spending the day grading all those late assignments that people should have handed in months ago. Nothing makes me angrier then when they are late and I have to search for them. Especially seeing as the class has it's own journal site, where all the assignments should be posted. So what do you think that means for someone who posted last in late September.

If you are a student and reading this, especially if you are my student, note that when teachers have tons of late work to grade, they get angry and unhappy. Angry and unhappy grading makes for bad grades.

Here is the formula:
Late assignments = angry bad grades.

The worst case ever was this student of mine named Megan who waited until 7AM the day grades were due at 9AM. I would never let that happen now. I used to be a pushover for late assignments. Next semester I will accept none. One day late = 0.

g'night estrip

I can't even tell you what a dramatic day this was for me and (e:twisted) on the site. Everything is good now. My title is intentially cryptic as a little joke between us. We spent the day hunting down all the "illegal" characters that had to be "stripped". Sounds exotic and really naughty, but trust me it wasn't as funa s it sounds.

For a while we had to delete the entire site. You may have noticed an hour or so when you couldn't update between 2 and 3am. Those were the most fun times when I realized I had changed the date of about 3000 journal entries to 12/15/04 at 21:38. Thankfully we had a backup.

Without (e:twisted) 's help and (e:terry) 's tasty enchiladas I would have died. I owe you guys.
