Apple - I still hate you

So I got an ipad today through work that I am going to use to test web/app dev for ipad.

1. Why still no file upload in the freakin browser. Even my old nokia bar flip phones could do that. Basically, apple just wants revenue on the apps and by not allowing upload you basically cripple web apps from being all that relevant forcing people to develop app store apps.

image

2. While I can probably use a corporate dev account for work stuff, if I wanted to dev anything like an estrip.org app to match the android one , I would need to spend $99 to become a developer. This isn't a one time fee, it's $99/year. That is such a rip off. Android market place publication privileges is a one time fee of $25 and you could avoid that if you just wanted to make the app available from your own website instead of the marketplace. And furthermore there are competing marketplaces like amazon's which will keep the prices low.

I mean in this case I just want to develop a free app (like the android one) that allows you to upload pics and other content to your blog. I have to keep paying $99/year?

Just as I was thinking about getting another mac as a dev laptop (for lightness sake) I came across this anger from the evening. Instead I just bought another SSD for the Dell.

Penasquitos Canyon Preserve

Between LA and San Diego we stopped at Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. (e:Terry) saw a bobcat here. It was really pretty, despite being right down the path of a massive electricity transmission field that buzzed so much that it was loud.

Black's Beach

I made it to the beach and I swam in the water, despite it being quite chilly at around 60 degrees out and windy. Still nothing is as cold as the time (e:terry) and I swan in glacier lake. That time I had to down a 40 before I could even step in the water.

A night with Sara in San Diego

It was so nice to see (e:iriesara) in San Diego. I think the two funniest moments were:

1. Sitting at a mexican restaurant where I ate the best octopus dish ever. Paul says: OMG our table is on fire. Literally the greasy chip basket got too close to the candle. Sara put it out but not before the flames were like 6" high.

2. Best misunderstanding. Store Guy: Would you like a bag for it? Paul: I never though of just using a bag to do it, does it work good? Store Guy: To put the balloons in?

I love shopping at the forum shops in Vegas. I was sad to see FAO Schwartz replaced by H&M.

A trip to china

(e:tinypliny) and (e:pmt) headed down to the Chinese grocer last night. She was blown away by the appropriation of the Indian Buddha into the Chinese Buddha. I was equally amazed at the appropriation of the virgin Mary. Check out her dragons.

image

The picture tiny posted had a lot of arms...

image

but check out the Mega arm one. The thousands of hands kind of look like HPV based tumors.

image

(e:tinypliny) also could not get over how fat they made the buddha. We discussed if he had diabetes or not.
image

image

They do have a lot of cool pottery although some of it is very expensive.

This bird was almost $2000 which is surprising the way they just have them layed out on cheap shelving.
image

image

I wanted this mug so bad, but it was $15.

Driscoll's raspberries from wegmans tried to kill me

I have never been as sick as Thursday night. I ate dinner and within 1hr I was sweating, cramping, puking, shitting, and then shakinh and writhing in pain on the bathroom floor screaming for help.

I seriously have never been in so much pain. It was the nost viokent gastrointestinal issue I ever had. Comparatively, the appendix exploding hurt less although it was similar. Strangely, unlike bacterial or viral food poisoning I was fine several hours after puking my guys up.

The next day, I investigated everything I ate the night before and I found the culprit. The raspberries I bought from Wegmans the night before were thoroughly infested with white/gray mold and I didn't notice when I ate them with my dessert. It was dark in the kitchen so I just grabbed a handful from the fridge without inspecting. Big mistake. Who does that? I feel like such an idiot. At the same time paying $3+ for raspberries I bought the night before, I didn't expect they would have gone bad. I might never eat raspberries again.

Since then I systematically tried each and every other thing I ate that night with no problem. I threw the raspberries out. I should have brought then back to the store.
