youtube, blog media and buffalo blogs
On another side note:
One thing I noticed when writing my thesis is that by the end of the summer we should have about 16,000 journal entries under our belt. Add 14,000 images and a multitude of other media formats.
Why do I keep finding references to wnymedia.net as buffalo only blogging community. I think it is fair to say we beat them to that by a long shot and that our network of journal writers are much more of a comprehensive community then they have.
"Marc Odien... wnymedia.net Dude is responsible for creating Buffalo Blogger Central... In a lot of ways, his is responsible for turning or should I say taking the whole Buffalo blogworld to new heights... "
So onto the main feature:
youtube
The youtube : slogan is "broadcast yourself." I think it is a great slogan for a great conecpot but what I am seeing less and less of is peoples personal broadcasting content. There seems to be a tremendous amount of copyrighted television shows and other copyrighted media. This is deifnaetly going to endanger the entire youtube site. Ironically they were just sued by Robert Tur the guy who filmed the Reginald Denny for having the copyrighted video on the site. Instead of asking the to take it down, he sued demanding $150,000 for each of the 1,000+ viewings that occurred. Youtube then took down the video. AL the blogs refering to it now have a big gaping hole.
I am curious what is going to happen to all the blogs that refer to youtube if it goes away. I never want to make my blog dependent on some outside media server. In fact that is why you cannot link in any external media data on your elmwoodstrip.org journal as I want to maintain its long term storability integrity of the data as a historical document.
One day when youtube away and it will be so tragic to watch as all the blogs that reference those videos becoming meaningless, like pulling the threads out of a quilt. Does no one else think about this? It is like putting all your eggs in one basket. Or worse yet, it goes really corporate, and even though you wrote an entry refereing to a one free video, they then make the readers pay to see it.
Part of the beauty of digital media culture is the fact that data gets replicated and protected through sheer multiplication factor. If everyone posts their video content to youtube and then youtibe goes away, will everything go away.

A day in south east buffalo
Started out with a trip to the Larking Building to see the Leonardo de Vinci exhibit.
When they say that Leonardo invented the helicopter, this is what they meant.
They also had this really nice Rocroft Table that would look sweet in our new dining room. Unfortunately, it is not for sale and says do not touch. Not that I could ever afford it.
Afterwards we stopped Uncle Sam's Army Navy Surplus. It is the largest army navy surplus store I ever saw although it smells extreemly moldy - they really do have everything - that is othe rthan geiger counters. I really want one so I asked. Does anyone know where I could get one in town?
They did have these totally transparent microwave radiation protection suits. I almost bought one.
Afterwards, we headed over to Tifft Farm. Nothing like a nature preserve build on a land fill.

From My Lawyer To Theirs
Florence,
I just wanted to reiterate my clients' position on the above closing.
As you are aware, the contract closing date was July 11 and pursuant to the contract, possession is to be given to my clients on that day.
Further, the title documents were to be ordered five days after execution of the contract and delivered to me fifteen business days prior to closing. Therefore, please immediately provide me with the up-dated search, survey, tax receipts and proposed Deed.
Further advise your clients, my clients have given notice and must vacate their apartment no later than August 1, 2006. We have every intention of closing on that date and taking possession of the premises.
I am urging you to give this matter top priority.
Jackie

A walk in the city
Sorry about the blair witchiness of the beginning, I was scared. It might be hard to tell but I think there were about 150 of them.
The traveling barber on elmwood has some interesting signs.
Baby at rust belt books.
The mansion they are redoing on deleware. It has come along so much since it was just a facade but I am still scared of the pillar holding up the porch roof. It kind of buckles.
Beautiful flowers on the edge of an elmwood concrete crack below the old buddies which is becomming a dinner theatre? Seems like they stopped reconstructing a while back.
Hippiegrrlhas stickers on stop signs why don't I.
All of the towne houses by the old Lord Chumley's are for sale. What is the deal with that. (e:matthew) sai dthey are all like 600,000. We decided that we want to go see them.
The side of the buildings.
What is this pretty house? Does anyone know the history of it? It is right by the corner of virgina and elmwood.
The chocolate bar on Chippewa seems like it could be a really fun outting. It is chocolate bar with chocolate drinks and dessert.
WKSE 98.5 is the building right behind our house. I always wondered what that Barn was.

Italian Festival
The food was delicious. I had fried calamari, fried ravioli, tortelini in vodka creme sauce, peach and raspeberry italian ice, italian sausage, streak and dandelions, clams, and ice cream. I love whatever that lobster hot place is, even if it is not overhwelmingly italian. They have really good seafood.
They had some sort of Italian Dancers from our sister city in Italy. Sorry the pic is so blurry.
The fried calamari from Lombardos are the same lame, pre-fab frozen ones that you get a Casa Di Pizza. The ones down the street at Fillippos - were so much better. You could see them actually breading the calamari and frying it. Not to mention tha it was a combination of legs and rings which I prefer. (e:mike) only likes the rings.
I don't know what it is about Lorigos but people were willing to wait over a half an hour in live to get their food. The flyer said they were a wholesale place form Grant Street. Somehow, in my whole Buffalo Italian life I never got introduced to that. It can't be that far away from Guercios.
Yummy italian ice. It had the perfect consistency and flavor to me.
I wish I could have gotten more pictures but my hands got so greasy so fast.
How can they always have free ice cream everywhere? Did anyone try it at the taste or at the Italian Festival.

Block Sale
The Dorchester Block Sale is the lamest blocksale I have seen. I kind of expected better stuff for such a fancy street.
On another note, I met with my thesis advisor and she liked my thesis, gave me a couple additional notes which my computer somehow deleted (hopefully I remember them) and it looks like I will graduate after all.
Just stop reading this if you hate your life.
The more sucessful my life becomes, the more uncomfortable small talk has become. I actually have caught myself lying about my life in order to appear less sucessful.
Typical situation - see someone I haven't seen for a while
Me: how's it going?
Them: It sucks. Buffalo sucks I don't have a job or just got fired, my girlfriend cheated on me, and my landlord sucks.
Me: Oh, that sucks.
Them: How about you?
Me: (quick, think of all the bad crap that has happened - blank) I didn't finish writing my thesis yet?
Insert: Talk about the weather or food
Them: Ya, we really need to get out of this town.
My advice is to just wait it out, times change.

Updated Life
This girl at Thursday in the square seems to have drawn all over her pants. Everyone was trying to read them.
We stood around, (e:terry) ,(e:mike) , (e:beast) and I.
The tea party was pretty good.
I took two videos. One has mike and terry the other some crowd.
This dude was super buff. I want to look like him but I can't donate that much time to excercise.
After the square
On the workout front my legs are getting buffer. This pic need to be edited. It looked more opaque on my laptop screen.
Friday turns out, willbe very busy.

You guys do deserve some pub to for what has been created with e-strip...
Peace...
And I really, really, really hate bloggers that link with meaningless text. You know:
"This (link) has totally changed how I feel about N! Can you imagine? Oh my god!" And then two days later the link is either broken or refers to a news article that's gone behind the archived-for-pay wall.
Ugh. I've gotten to the point where I don't click the link if it's not immediately apparent what it is. And if i am linking to something, if I think it might go away or become unreadable after some time, I will put in a quote or summary to explain what I'm writing about. Just so that, in a week, the entry I just spent an hour writing and will probably refer back to, actually will mean something on its own.
I'm not that big a media person so mostly I'm referring to your standard-issue link rot, which has been a problem since the Internet was invented. But it's a major issue when dealing with a medium that is, by its very ease of use, very fluid: if you want to create something that is meaningful for longer than it takes you to write it, then you have to be aware that relying on someone else's content for context may very well leave your piece isolated and out of context within a relatively short period of time.
