Liz and Google and Advertising

(e:liz),
In response to [inlink]liz,47[/inlink] which is in response to [inlink]paul,1202[/inlink] and [inlink]churchofjulie,38[/inlink].

The whole google search issue resulted from the February feedback [inlink]news,172[/inlink]. I did not originaly want the individual journals to be seached by google, because it took away from my whole anti-globalization campaign but when the time came for February Feedback, it was suggested (here's one [inlink]ajay,10[/inlink] that we change the selecting method from POST to GET so that bots can search through the content.

I changed it and in a way it's kind of neat, I mean it definitely spreads our messages yet in another way, why should google, yahoo, MSN, etc profit from our writing. That's what makes me crazy about google. Why should they be able to make mad money off of people like us? I mean they sell advertisements only because their bots suck pages.

Why is the whole search engine thing even legal. I mean isn't it full of copyright issues. If I made a zine with pics of different disney characters and sold advertisements space for it, I would most like be sued. Yet they can put up other people's copyrighted info and tack advertisements all around it with no problem. Search for Disney on google . What's up with that? What do you guys think?

Churchofjulie Continued

On a totally unrelated note I am still disturbed by (e:churchofjulie) silencing herself. By not speaking out, you are giving in. Sorry, if other people feel different but I think you're kind of a sellout, not to mention you incriminate yourself so much more by acting suspicious and destroying what you wrote.

image

I mean, I would totally respect it if you said everything is too much, I'm quitting my journal or I just am not interested in being public anymore but erasing yourself is like going into hiding, and hiding isn't a cool place to be for someone like you who did nothing wrong. You have nothing to be afraid of!!

What if the government starts to harass and scare every innocent, yet outspoken American and we all just become silent and complacent. One who gives up their freedom for protection neither gains freedom nor protection. The thought of this whole thing is making me sick, it is setting such a bad precident for freedom of expression on the net.

Costume Play in Buffalo

I just realized that a bunch of girls here are dressed in cosplay (short for costume play) style.

image

If you don't know about this japanese style craze go to the artvoice site

This cosplay thing is making network jumps. Think about it. If the people here are inspired by the artvoicce site, then they are beiong infleuenced purely through their network connections and the style is making network leaps from from little fashion vortex to another. I guess, if they found out about the costume play scene through artvoice, it would be appropriate to the artvoice festival.

Epeeps at the Fest

I saw many of the epeeps today but where oh where is stickboy. (e:rachel) told me this great story about how she was home on the site, saw my post, IMed me and then we met here. See my previous post on live social networking [inlink]paul,951[/inlink]. This was epeeps.net style networking at its finest.

(e:southernyankee) confirmed my belief that the Artvoice festival is more commercial than last year.

Billy the Dog

Billy [inlink]stickboy,93[/inlink], I bet you think you are the first dog to write on the site. Amazingly, we have already had a dog journal for months, but he had recently retired his writing career. It was (e:mk) 's dog named Lucky, the journal was named Lucky too. Maybe I should bring it back from the archives for you.

Party, Bacon and Jill Pic

I don't have time to update right now, I am off to go to my dad's for father's day. Thank you to everybody who came out for the party [inlink]news,344[/inlink] at the 567. (e:mike) is mad at me because I told someone that he thought they were a celebrity, which is only a compliment. Sorry (e:mike), I am sure we will be able to make up over a large helping of bacon, america's little miracle maker.

image

(e:jill) here is the little video I told you I would make out of the pictures. If you want to use it for a user pic, right click on it and choose to save the image to disk or download to disk (something like that.) Then you could upload it for a userPic if you want. I should sell video pics out on the street with my laptop as a side job, and give them out on floppies, hahaha - that's so 1993. If you'd rather have it loop forever, tell me it's a two second change. Right now it only loops twice.

ChurchofJulie Disappears

So much for freedom of speech (e:julie) [inlink]churchofjulie,38[/inlink].

image

You have showed us that the best way to deal with government pressure is to just give in and give up. We should celebrate silence this evening.

Sherkston Beach In Canada

We went to Sherkston Shores resort today only to find that it costs $25. Luckily, I remembered the free beach called Elco Beach at the far end, and we parked there. Simply follow the directions on the Sherkston site and then continue using the map I made below.

image

In order to get to the free beach keep going past the sign for Sherkston Shores on Highway 3 and turn left at Wyldewood Rd. going toward the shore (left.) Simply drive to the end and you can park for the free beach.

The weather was cold and windy, but it was still fun. There is a fence dividing the free beach from the resort, however, the fence ends in the water and you can easily walk around it. We saw lots of people doing this all day. Here are Terry at Matthew divided by the fence.

image

It's kind of extreme having rich and poor beach goers divided by a fence, but I really can't think of a better alternative.

When it's sunny out the sidekick camera takes such nice colorful pics compared to the usual desaturated blurry ones that come out in low brightness. Check this one out from a time when there was full sun for five minutes.

image

I was really amazed by the ease of crossing at the border. They didn't even ask us for I'd, who's car it was or anything. Just, "Where are you going?," followed by, "ok."

On the way in it was just as easy, no passport, few questions, no search. Usually, I get harassed forever, I think, because I look arab.
