Butcher, Baker and Candlestick Maker

Ever since I first heard that nursery rhyme about the three men in a tub I was hooked on the dynamics of a three person male relationship. I am not saying any of these pictures of are men in "romantic relationships" but they are obviously close friends. One book that (e:matthew) had said that men were much closer in general before homosexuality was clinically defined at the turn of the century. Supposedly, it strained regular male relationships because they did not want to be seen as gay.

Anyways, I was going through this website

Buffalo Rising Sinks To New Low

I seriously cannot believe this article on being "Buffalo-ish" which they describe as similar to being Jewish. Its offensive for Buffalonians, its offensive to Jews, it makes no sense. It is pretty much just pure crap. Maybe there just aren't enough good things to say about Buffalo anymore that they need more filler crap. To make it worse the article is written by an x-buffalonian living in Chicago, who left Buffalo because of the weather? What an idiot.

I think that a lot of what he says is true, out side of Buffalo we do get no respect we are known for our wings and snow (even though other places get more snow then we do). Not sure about the comparison to Jews, it makes sense if he is a Jew, it makes even more sense since to me they seem like a Minority here. But the next time you watch a sports event notice that most Buffalo fans in another city are most often in groups. That thing with the sports teams I have seen happen before. Yes the article does seem like he wrote it like a poem but maybe that is his writting style I was going to leave a response there but it won't let me log in.

What I mean is this strange working class elitism reinforced by sports fanaticism. These articles and conversations that make Buffalo out to be little more than a frozen shit hole where you can only get drunk and watch sports exposes the fundamental disconnect between the people who are working to create something, and those who wish to gain some level of "street cred" for having grown up in a rust belt city.

Personally I think the unfriendly experiences this ex-pat writer has in other cities is probably rooted in his air of superiority. He probably tells his friends how much cooler than them he is for having spent time here.

Ortiz brand tuna in a jar

This ortiz brand olive oil packed tuna tastes better than any other
tuna I ever had. (e:hodown) made tuna melt bagels for breakfast yesterday
because all the bagel shops were closed. Seeing as it's $10/ jar I
don't get it very often but it's so worth it.

Thanks to everyone who showed up, it was a pretty crazy party - I thought - one of the best ones ever. I didn't end till the sun was up. I think there is an entire days worth of cleaning. It's also (e:hodown)'s first and last day in town. Let's see if I make it past 7pm.

What Happend To The Fairwest

I appologize if someone has already written about this but I have
been pretty much out of commission all week. I finally feel okay today.

Anyways, when I walked by I noticed the fairwest building at the
corner of allen and north pearl is boarded up. That now makes a whole
block that is out of commision. Plus friends across the street. I
wonder what happened to fairwest? I hope they knock it all down and
start over. The last building connected with all the junk in the
window smells so bad in the warm weather. I called the police once
when like 10,000,000 flies were inside. I figures it meant something
was dead inside. Then someone else broke the window.

It looks so freakin ghetto now.

I once had a series of conversations with the owner of a store who is quite active. This was around the time when Pano's wanted to tear down that house for a fuckin' parking lot; and some big-box store wanted to move into a building near Utica(?). Anyways: this guy was all about bringing such big stores in there. He was all for tearing down the old houses and putting up Walmarts and KMarts.

The problem is: there _are_ enough of those around. The future of Ellicott district lies in specialty stores, upscale restaurants, etc. (and less bars). As a matter of fact, it is good that people have to park at a distance and walk; then they're walking by lots of other stores and make impulse buys.

If a whole block of Allen can be boarded up, what hope is there for the rest of the city? But, I am sure with some better leadership for the Ellicot district and in the mayor's office that part of Allen can turn around.

It was a storefront with all sort of random old stuff, then they just took everything off the windows and heaped it up on the floor and threw other random stuff on top. It was really bizarre -- almost as if they were building a funeral pyre for someone murdered underneath. All the makings of a morbid Edgar Allan Poe- Peter Wimsy mystery.
