Reliving my parents drama

Today was such a crazy day. I had Time Warner come to set up my new home business line so that I could run the server from here and save about $60/month.

Trying to make a little server room out of a bedroom closet made me confront all of the stuff inside there. That plus having to rewire a bunch of stuff and get the internet back up and running kind of sent me over the edge.

It so funny how much I am like my dad. I recognize that I get so crazy about stuff but sometimes I just can't stop. I hear myself saying the same jerky things he said that make my mother so nuts but at the same time as I get older I am starting to understand him perspective more. Either that or I am just beginning to be a grumpy old man.

It basically comes down to a difference in people who want to keep stuff and people who want to throw stuff out. My mother, my brother (horder king) and (e:matthew) are more of the mindset that you should always hold onto everything in case it has a value or purpose someday. If it can fit somewhere then it should. My borther has the quirk that he takes on other people's sentimental objects too while (e:matthew) likes to keep broken things just in case. I on the other hand like to hold onto some sentimental things like letters or pictures, possessions that remind me of someone, etc but draw the line at fabric scraps, broken things, books I will never read (in fact I have a couple that need to go), etc.

Its probably wasteful of me to be this way but I think it has to do with always feeling like I am wadding through garbage whenever I am looking for a specific item.

I think there is some relationship to hating to lose placement of where stuff is. Having more stuff means things get misplaced and are harder to find. Also, for some reason having a lot of stuff just gives me anxiety. I never want to have to go through removing tons of garbade from this place again liek we had to when we moved in. I think (e:matthew) and my bro/mom are the opposite when not having lots of stuff gives them anxiety.

The best for me was going away to school where I had to fit the few things I had in a few boxes. One thing I was really excited about in having a giant house was to have some giant open space. At one point I didn't even like furniture. Now I feel that slowly but surely everything is crowding in closer.

A trip to South Buffalo

At Tiffy I saw some charred reeds. I hope people are not trying to start fires there.

image

I swear I spend more time in former waste dumps and industrial sites than out in the country but its kind of cool to have so much outside stuff so close to the city. Its nice that they are really redoing the waterfront and even parts of the Buffalo River. Its the first time I can actually imagine it changing. There is so much space cleared and so many new parks.

image

We found lots of parts of the what I had been told was the old "New St Joseph's Cathedral" that was at Utica and Delaware

The only thing is I can't see how these parts match up with the pics, unless they are the internal pillars. I also heard these are the pillar parts that make up the pillar statue on North Campus.

Here is (e:terry) being strongman in the lot where they store the ice boom in the summer.

We also headed over to woodlawn.

At the end of it all we got a car wash at the deltasonic.

Dare to be mike

(e:mike) has been dare since the day he was introduced to it. This is the cutest pic. Just look at his poofy hair and how happy he is with his nonna. Its so hard to imagine him that little now.

Trip to Wegmans

I saw the produce Guy out and aabout with a crate of beans. So, instead of taking the old stringbean pickovers that were left out I waited for him to put the new ones out. It was so worth it. Look how freaking green and yummy they look. Its like summer.

Also, my favorite tuna in the glass jar is back. No need to trek out to the Orchard Park Wegmans anymore.

Energy and Advertisments

It seems like there is this never ending race for more bandwidth. Some of it is necessary to facilitate things like HD video, immersion gaming technology, etc. At the same time so much of it is totally wasted on web ads. Think about all of the news sites you visit. How much of the downloaded data is actually content and how much is simply bandwidth wasted, click the dancing monkey, buy this new software bullshit.

I feel like they are getting so much worse. What starts out generally as a header or footer ad, slowly turns into a third column of ads, then ads between each article and worst of all, ads that float down on top of the content and force you to close them in order to read the actual content.

Its not just bandwidth, it is energy being wasted. Its sick when you consider how much of it is not ever recognized by the user and then how much energy it takes. I would love to see a study of the energy used to produce web ads seen by a user for a year in terms of coal usage, etc. Not only is it bad for the environment and its very bad for your laptops battery life.

Having a browser with a flash blocking plugin helps, but with the move to HTML5 this is going to be increasingly difficult to block.

Gnome-shell minus black panel

I like that the new gnome-shell is created with js and css. It means a lot more people will be able to play with and add stuff to the desktop once its released. It just makes it way easy to tweak the interface.

Here I took the panel and made it tiny font size and transparent, giving me almost my entire screen as screen real estate with barely any UI until I am in the activity screen.

Orange Tongue

My tongue drama continues. Ever since I got this new fake tooth ny ears have been ringing, my nose has been burning, my throat is sore and my tongue turned orange.

You can see that the porcelain tooth replacement is really just a cheap nickel tooth covered in porcelain and not covered very well.

image

Its hard to tell just how orange it is based on the pic with flash.

I guess other people have had similar issues.

I am so tired of this tongue freakshow in my mouth. I wonder what causes it. Do I have some underlying fungal infection.? Am I allergic to the cheap metal in my tooth?

I wish I could just start my life over and ate no candy from the beginning.

Broken Tree On Linwood

Its been several weeks since the tree fell down on the property down the street from us. The property is the back of the fairfaxes parking lot. Its annoying because no one ever shovels it, or cleans the garbage piles from it and now the tree. I wonder how long it will take.
