My day - please donate for RAM
Thank you artvoice for hosting us locally. Bye bye server in Vancouver.
RAM BAMM THANK YOU MAM
I would really like to buy more RAM for the server. Unfortunately, the server only takes the expensive RDRAM kind and I need a 1GB chip Well best would be 2 1GB chips as the motherboard has four slots which are currently filled with 2 512MB chips and 2 blanks.
You can see the 1GB chips go for about $500 each. The ideal setup would be but thats like $995 (big $5 savings for buying a pair) and I just threw in for a new video card, new hard drives, a new network card, and bunch of other stuff like a DVD burner. Not to mention I bought the motherboard, the old RAMM, the dual 2.6ghz xeons and put like 10 million hours of labor in.
So maybe someone could donate again sometime. Its would be helping to support your own online ocmmunity. It has been about 6 months since anyone has. I can name the RAM chip after you, lol. I just figure since it is a community maybe someone else can contribute. Maybe I will start some sort of RAM chip drive.
I have to be up in 6 hours for a new employee orientation at work. I already missed two of them, so this time I have to be serious about it. I am sure, as all these types of meetigns are, that it is something that should have been reduced to a pamphlet. At least the cut it form a whole day to a half day. The good part is I am getting paid to be there. So I guess who cares if it is boring.
I wish I had something more interesting to write about. I had the busiest day researching windows security stuff for work. I know that sounds like an oxymoron. Anyhow, then I came home and spent the night finishing setting up the new server and my email, setting up DNS, converting databases and learning sqlite. SQLite is amazing. I am porting all of my non-major apps over to it for portability sake.
Olive oil is skyrocketing. It went from like $7-$10 a year ago to ~$25 a gallon now. What is up with that? Maybe we need to start a war with Italy and Spain?
It has been disturbingly warm in Buffalo as Europe freezes over. At least there was some snow today. Maybe 1/2 inch.
I have been eating really good at work but I am upset that I am using so much Styrofoam. Do you think they would serve me in my own reusable Tupperware?
Calamaris are perhaps the tastiest food in the world to me. The ones at Kostas are by far the best as I have said before.
The Soulvlaki at Kostas is also very good but it has entirely too much feta if that is possible. I still think my favorite is the Ambrosia Chicken Salad at Ambrosia. (e:mike) agrees. I refuse to eat at panos since that waiter shit on himself and continued to server food according to (e:flacidness).
Salads at work are tasty too but they come in Styrofoam, which makes them trashy.
I was so sleepy from staying up all night to fix the server that I took a pic of the sink last night by mistake. I thought why not post it to remember what the sink looks like in the middle of the night.

Birthday Blowout
Today I spent the day at my mothers with (e:mike), (e:terry) and (e:matthew). (e:mike) bought me a basket full of candy, goldschlager and gift certificates for Globe Market and Sahara Grill.
My mother made some seriously tasty moroccan treats. We ate moroccan lamb stew with potatoes and carrots, lemon couscous, salad, and some chicpea onion salad that was exceptionally tasty.
Here I am officially tuirning 29.
My parents got me some nice new clothes.
I also got to go to borders and buy a lot of books. I got an entrie book dedicated to DNS. Soon I will be the master of my domain, lol.
I still haven't gotten the GPS to work with my phone but I did get a book on developing apps for windows mobile so maybe I can just make the app myself when I have some time and after Visual Studio 2005 ships to my office.

Trip to Buffalo Botanical Gardens
This flower smelled so good. It is the flower of a ponderosa lemon which is a giant lemon that looks kind of like an ugly fruit.
Is anyone else werided out that it is not frozen or snowy out.
This is the park surrounding the botanical gardens.
Has anyone been to the Pierce Arrow Museum?
(e:terry) and I used here all the time when we worked at the HSBC atrium back in 2000 before we left for Germany.
I am so glad we only worked there for 2 or 3 months because that building seriously smells like toxic gas. The first day we started we were freaking out because we thought that our soon to be co-workers were constantly farting. Turns out it was built about some sort of sewer pipe. One time the whole room filled up with the sulfur gas in the summer and we had to evacuate.
Bye, bye HO oats. I wonder hwo the people that own the houses next store feel. I suppose there land value is going to skyrocket considering there was probably no resale value before.
This was not done in photoshop. I happend because (e:terry) drove past this pretty quick while I tried to take a pic. I thought it made it look cool.
Afterwards, we went to Pearl Street Brewery for Dinner. The food was pretty tasty. The atmosphere was crappy for the price. They mistook us for people that were interested in the bandits and asked us if we wanted to sit upstairs. What a freakin mistake. We ended up in the Bandits sports bar area which is totally not what I was intending.
I had a $22 entree called the Don that consisted of peppered steak, some veggies and some shrimp. I was kind of annoyed because my beer came in a plastic cup. I would say never agree to eat upstairs unless you are just eating bar food and drinking. It is definately not a "nice" place to eat.
When I got home, I found these two caked from (e:jesse) and his girlfriend. Thanks, they look so yummy.

terry gets new glasses
WHo thought iron steps were a good idea in Buffalo. You think they would have had better forsight.
I found Josephine and finally got to see the monkats [search]monkat[/search] I made in the virtual reality environment they were intended for. You can go see the virtual reality theatre piece, The trial the Trail on Friday. I think at Hallwalls but it might be at squeaky wheels, I will find out and post about it.
Terry is getting new glasses at Americas Best. He joined the plan last time so the eye exam as free. He won't let me post pictures of his glasses on my journal so I am trying on a pair for me. Well maybe a pair for the artvoice Geek Meet.
Did anyone else know that wrangler makes relaxed fit glasses?
I got my bluetooth GPS. I haven't gotten it to work yet. Someday I we be able to figure out where I am.

So I was thinking about it some more and I think the problem is a lack of straight men for the woman to get excited about. Anyone have an idea hwo to change that. Dare I say scandalous lesbian photos of (e:lilho) whipping her mistress in a black lycra unitard woiuld do it?

Debating Graduation
I will use this form as an example. This form was due last december. I have had it online since then. Does anyone else see the irony that I got a degree in media studies, where I studied online communication and this form isn't acceptable. It needs to be handed in, hard copy. Same with my notification that I quit my job at UB. Why can't they just take my word for it. I quit, I quit, I quit - I am not returning. I have filled out over 50 of these types of forms. Before, when I was able to go to UB during business hours it was possible to be a form slave. Now I just can't leave work to take the subway to wqalk to the CFA in the middle of a business day.
It's my own fault for not realizing that it was all so unimportant earlier. Like if I had quit at credit 10 it would have been much easier to write it off. But now I owe about 40,000 for it. I am 75 credits into my 60 credit nightmare degree and the digustng part is that I had a 4.0 until this point because I was really serious about always doing lots of work and being on top of it all - that is until this part.
Frankly, I might as well just get another job and pay off the whole thing in the next couple years and then bury this whole fake art crap thing behind me. I am so not feeling the vibe of most of the other art students and I think I was just in the wrong place. I wish I had just never been pressured into going back to school.
I hate schools, I hate academics. It is all so pretentious. I think I was just allured by the summers off. I think that is what it really came down too. How lame is that.
I rememeber one time when I was in spain I looked at this giant miro sculpture and was like what is all this art crap that everyone is talking about. They should just melt it all down and make productive stuff out of it. I think that is where this all started. That day in spain. Somehow I got all wound up into it until one day recently I started to really consider what it was.
So the problem is this. To graduate in spring I need to enroll in a one credit course because the rule is that you have to be enrolled for one credit the semester you graduate. If I don't then I have to do it all over again later. This has been going on for so long. I don't want the one credit. The one credit doesn't want me and I deifnately will not learn anything.

funny network story
I will take this time to tell you a funny story. So I thought there was something seriously wrong with the new server. It kept going on and off and the artvoice server did to. When we moved it in, we plugged the server and the router into a plug that was previously empty on the wall.
Turns out that the plug was controlled by the same power line as the basement light switch! So you can imagine what kind of craziness that made for.

Artvoice Calendar
1. Focus more on the day/moment. If people wanted to plan two weeks from now they would read artvoice or visit the site on a computer. Most people want to look up stuff they foprgot to wriet down on the way there. e.g lcoation, cost, times. First, make a plain online calendar that is easily searchable from the phone to satisfy users who want the functionality of option 1.
2. Make it so they can schedule SMS alerts and make it intelligent
Create an online interface where people can sign up and give us their cell number to recieve a text message alerts of events based on data they provide us with. With SMS message alerts they can get messages "pushed" to the phone without having to actually initate anything like looking it up. When they sign up they will fill out information such as types of music they like, bands they like, nights they tend to go, bars they prefer, and lots of social networking questions etc.
I will make a program that compares what is coming up that evening with what the robot thinks about them. The robot then can feed them entertainment options from artvoice. As the robot begins to form an opinion of what they like to do, they will be prompted with more questions and for feedback.
I think I can start by interviewing lots of people about this, and taking pictures of them to set up profiles for the robot to learn from. I can also tap into lots of online resources that help compare things someone might like. Say amazon.com.
Questions could be posed in fun ways and even answered from the phone. It could say something like.
It's thursday night - you find your self at
1. chippewa
2. elmwood
3. allen
4. university heights
Hair gel
1. Style me up
2. Yuck
I need coffee, I am off to
1. Star Bucks
2. Spot Coffee
There is a stage
1. You are on it
1. You are clapping
Today's Lunch
1. brought my own
2. drive through
3. way to expensive
4. wasn't up yet
On another note, (e:jesse) sent me this. It is his first file sent across GPRS with the cell phone he is building. He said it is a flyer for a party for my birthday.

RDRAM is such a scam.
I hate Rambus.
