Whats Going On With Me

Work is totally consuming, I haven't been doing anything other than work recently. I seriously work like 60 hours a week. At least it is extremely interesting and always changing. I always feel like we are trying to get to the end of another, OMG, we need to create this complex, highly integrated, inter-system solution that we were supposed to finish a month ago, and here are the few minor details we thought through - run with it. Honestly, it is a feeling and pace which I kind of enjoy and they really do give me a lot of free reign and control over the projects.

However, there is also all this other unimportant meta work and bureaucracy that creeps up 24 hours a day and needs to go away at some point in my career. Its that crap that kills me. I want some firewall between me and that work. Kind of like how the physicians have midlevels. If I don't handle all their smaller issues around the clock that build up. Most of the issues don't even have anything to do with me, people just come to me for my problem solving skills which seem to be more honed than most. A lot of them come from technology phobic end users. I am starting to think that my problem solving skills are not a blessing but rather a curse as I am literally inundated with what I consider simple issues that other people are freaking out about.

Well that is that. Tomorrow we are supposed to go dancing in Rochester. So I will get one evening to relax. Unfortunately, I was having some horrible Urinary Tract Issue that involved having to get a cystoscopy this morning at 7am. Lets hope tomorrow is less peeing blood from the cystoscope cutting my urethra and more fun dancing.

Pissing in the Devil's Hole

Sounds like a leather daddy S&M porno from the 70s but really it was just a pit stop on a long treacherous journey to see the Devil's Hole in icy winter morning with (e:robert), mickey, (e:joe,58570) and (e:terry).

I still don't understand where his mouth is located. Does anyone know?

Supersizers Do... Dried Fruit

We have been watching this British show called The Supersizers... . on Hulu about this British duo that lives and eats like British from different eras. It seems like they were constantly eating dried fruit which made me want it. Then tonight at my cousins house they had a whole dried fruit tray. It was so yummy.

Bowling

I hate bowling but we went last night. Volkers is so ghetto. There was even some drama that involved 4 police having to show up and them turn the music off. Then there was this guy screaming at his girlfriend and punching stuff. I will probably never go back.

This sign is on that door. Really, they couldn't find a better place for a cart storage room?

Windows 8.1 Sucks Too

I cannot believe how crappy windows 8 is. It makes people's complaints about gnome 3 seem so silly. I spent hours getting it downloaded and setup to test our internal authentication system against it after there were reports of it not working. Turns out the internal domain was not set to be trusted. Argh, what a waste of my frickin life. I absolutely cannot stand the interface. It makes what I though was already a terrible OS and makes it so much worse. I think my parents wouldn't even be able to get to the desktop or find their files.

I had some issue registering my license key. The error was cryptic but told me I could find out what it really mean by running some command from the command line. Why not just tell me the real error message.

image

Then the code pops up another error window that tells you the error message and suggests I call microsoft support by phone. But the link takes you to a page suggesting you look at videos online or look through the forums instead of giving you any phone number.

This is the contact customer support by phone page text, seriously.

Shitty Work Environment

Today I moved from a nice office to a shitty cube that literally collects snow through the ghetto, freezing window. I am seriously feeling like this is the beginning of me finding a job elsewhere. I can't believe that at the point I am at in my career I still don't have a pleasant work environment. Today made me want to leave Buffalo altogether.

Sledding at Chesnut Ridge

It was an amazingly sunny and warm 32 today as promised. We were going to go skiing, but seeing as we just recovered from the plague, and have a big night of dancing ahead, we decided to go sledding instead.

On the way there I was reading about Anne Frank's arrest frank No one knows who really turned them in, but on the wiki page there is a snippet about a resistance fighter who had been helping Jewish families escape or hide out had a girlfriend that turned out to be a Nazi double agent. He caught on as the people he was helping, somewhere around 200 families, started to disappear. She turned him into the gestapo who then murdered him. Imagine that. Knowing that your love cost all those people their lives, that your girlfriend was the most backstabbing bitch in the world and that now you are being murdered.

Botanical Gardens

(E:joe,58524) and (e:terry) and I went to the botanical gardens on New Years Day to recoup with some humid air. I am finally starting to feel better. What I really miss is fall color mode on my Samsung note 3. While the camera hardware is an upgrade the software seems like a step back. Between the lack of manual focus or macro mode and the removal of fall color mode, I just want to go back. My old pics were actually better on the lesser camera. Now I just find my self often frustrated as it focuses on something and then loses focus immediately.
