Shower Pan and Threshold Continued

Its starting to be a joke. At least it feels that way. I can't believe someone thought the way the threshold was made would be acceptable. I actually feel insulted that they thought we wouldn't notice or care.

The drop is even more obvious now with the threshold in place.

image

You can see how far the left side (right side of picture as its taken from inside the shower)
image

Here is the right side which is good an normal height like the other two corners.

image

Here is the fucked up one. Look at the difference in height.

image

Just look how much shit they had to shove in there to try and cover up the drop that will definitely cause water to pool there.

image

They tried to use a 1/2 caulk to make this work. Well caulk and some wood and a piece of cement board. It looks insane. Instead of having concrete on stone flush like the other side there is all this other material that will surely degrade at different rates and separate causing space for mold to get trapped etc.

image

The threshold even overhangs by 1/2 inch on both sides which is a major tripping hazard. This is especially frustrating because the guy specifically told me to buy 6inch wide threshold which was extra cost and now not only looks like shit but is a major tripping hazzard. I would have just bought 5inch if he had told me to.

image

Even the ceiling fan is crooked. Its like these people have never seen a right angle before.

Basra in the basement

Poor guy had to move into the basement for a while. With (e:xandra) in the orange room and (e:terry), (e:Joe) and I in the blue room. Both of the other rooms are off limits due to the bathroom construction.

The only remaining options were the red room in the attic or the basement. I tried the red room in the attic for a bit but its so full of tools and far away from kitchen, water, etc.

Having him in the same room as the water heater should also keep it warmer compared to the attic. My only concern is him making the laundry area smell bad.

We gave him a bath today so that's a good start at least. It took all three of us to get him clean as he hated being hosed down.

Roller Skating and Dancing

We went to a techno roller skating party last night at rainbow rink in north tonawanda. It was awesome. The DJs were great and roller skating was way more fun than I rememberrd . It was almost like flying. At first I thought I wouldn't be able to do it but after a couple minutes I was confident enough to dance and skate at the same time. I skated for about an hour and a half but then had to quit because I started to get blisters from the skates.

I want to own a roller skating rink.

Bathroom Tiles

The owber came out and was nice about fixing the floor tiles. He agreed they didn't look right. The workers then came and dug out the tiles that were messed up and relayed them for grouting. They missed whole lot of them so I went through and marked off the ones I have issue with in red. The blue tape is what they fixed. I wish so bad I had just done it myself at this point. I know it can be straight and even as there are sections where it is right and I saw a demo installation of that tile at the time store

To be honest Im still very unhappy about the grade of the shower edge away from the drain on one side but we will see when their is water as the owner seemed to think it would not be an issue.

Frontyard Cycles

I literally spend every moment of today programming for the production at the Burchfield Penney. I think I have a pretty solid video/audio selector formula now to go along with the media manager and camera controls. One of the tricky parts was doing the math for sunrise/sunset but I ended up just scraping the next five years worth of time and dates from the web and storing it in a DB table.

Now the thing just needs to be fed more data.

Programming with (e:joe) a bit was fun. I am really excited about the possibilities.

I was saying to brian it would be interesting to communicate with the audience from cell phones over the speaker system or to have the system itself text to speach grumble about the weather. There are so many possibilities.

Nightmare Tile Scenario

Came home tonight and was pissed because the contractors used the wrong color grout. I thought that was the wrost of my problems but figured I could live with it. Then I tripped over a tile. Then I started to look around. Almost everywhere, except around the toilet was uneven.

As if the uneven, tile with random thickness grout and barrier corner parts wasn't bad enought, the shower pan even went downhill away from the drain which is bound to be a water nightmare in the future. It is so visually obviously that it makes me feel like I am in a crooked fun house looking at it.

Lets start out with the good side. Notice the evenness of the tile height. On this side the bottom tiles are all the same height.

image

Then on the other side it goes downhill on one side, like the pan concrete goes downhill, away from the drain in the front left corner. You can tell when you look at how much larger the bottom rows of white tiles go down on the left side of the picture. That side is almost a half inch lower. That is going to be a nightmare if its not fixed as the water will pool in that corner.

image

Before they began work I spent weeks tearing out an uneven 6" tile floor so that the new floor could be even. There was nothing left but the joists of the house. They put in a new seamingly even as plywood is floor as underlayment. The tile floor is really even around the toilet. Like this.

image
image

But then everywhere else it is this. We are talking like $3k worth of marble thats part of a $25k bathroom remodel that is potentially fucked up. I was so hoping this would be over but now I feel we are just beginning.

My other bathrooms 100 year old stone tile floor that is perfectly flat. I know from tearing up the other one that they used thick mud.
