Dinner! and are they dead?

Matthew's Mom's Birthday
I will start with dinner because it is a prettier picture. Tonight was (e:matthew)'s mom's birthday dinner. Happy Birthday Krista! We headed over to Betty's on Vrigina. It is such a great restaurant. The atmosphere was excellent, as was the food. I had yummy apple glazed pork chops.

image

(e:terry) had chicken pot pie. The rest of the food all looked so good too but after I started eating I forgot to take pictures, lol. I think everyone had a nice time.

image

The dead ?

So the dead thing? I was walking down Allen today with (e:enknot) and (e:hjon) and as always I peered into this old store that looks really abandoned at what I think is 14 Allen St.

image

Not sure what the deal with it is, it is such an eyesore on the street. However, the really crazy thing is there are now like about 5,000,000 big fat flies inside - which mean someone or something has died. The only time I have seen that many flies was when I have seen dead. So may latest idea is either a cat, a dog or the former owner has died. Does anyone know anything about this place? Should I call the police or is that redic? Maybe the non-emergency line as whatever is dead is dead.

They are relaly huge flies. I wish I brought my real camera so i could have gotten a pic of the inside where most of the flies were in bunches.

On another note, this house on Allen is for sale. I always wanted it. I wonder how much it is going for, the realator does not have it on their site. I don't know if I could ever really live on Allen. It would have to change a lot, like the fly shop would have to go, lol.

Claire has a question - Can anyone help her?

Hi,
My names Claire and I live in Wales, UK. In January 2000 I did a student exchange to Buffalo and I helped out in a shop on Elmwood Strip called Octopus Garden. The guy who run the shop was called Lou and I am very fond of him and have fab memories of working in the shop. I just wanted to know if he is still there and if he's ok? Thanks, my hotmail is claireyg1 AT hotmail.com .

Thanks,
Claire

blogging from the job interview

So today I had a three panel interview for a new job at Roswell. Right now, I have a 5 minute pause. It is nerve wracking. I wore a tie.

New Medicine Rocks

Medicine
I started a new once a day medicine called Lialda . It is actually the same formula as the old medine but I only take it once. This is a huge difference. I can't express how much stress there is in having to take 3 pills, three times a day and how many days were ruined because I forgot my medicine and had to return home. Really, its a miracle.

Other than that, I have forgot to take picturs of everything this week. Yesterday we went to the garden walk.

There were the cutest little clay pot characters

Someone lost the one eyed cat ;(
image

After that we had a gay diner party. I used our new grill and made shrimp, about 20 lamb chops, sausage and clams with corn on the cob. The guests brought potato, tomato and macaronni salads. It was so freakin delicious.

Wegman's had the most ridiculous vergtable pack. First of all who - the fuck cannot cut vegtables. Seriously, going form full vegtable to cut takes about 30 seconds. Secondly, is that not a rediculous price for what's in the container. And then last, the container is just a huge waste of plastic. Really vegtables do not ned styrofoam backing.
image

They did, however, have a great deal on Cherry Stone clams - my favorite kind - $5.40/doz - yum.

Remember my electric bike car fantasy

Remember when i wrote about this electric transport device I wanted back in (e:paul,32328) - well it is getting closer to reality I think. Today on engadget they reviewed a prototype of what they refer to as a ghastly device but is actually exactly what I want

image

I can't wait for the day when I can get something like this. I hate the guilty feeling I get when I travel around in my car around the city. Frankly though, I would like a third wheel and room for two.

WEMF - World Electronic Music Festival

I went to the first WEMF and I really want to go to the last one. It is a weekend long electronic music festival in Canada. Problem is that tickets ($90 or $120) are expensive and I have no friends. Which could pose a problem. (e:matthew) and (e:terry) surely will not go. Tickmaster is sold out but I found a another place that has tickets. Maybe I should just go by myself. I never do things by myself anymore and I used all the time when I was in college. That is how I met most of my friends.

Dog Pack and Shopping

First of all, I was trying to make a boring evening go smoothly by traveling around the internet and reading all the blogs I never have time to read anymore. I found this dog snuggly thing on omgblog Could you just see (e:james) dog in one, lol. I almost think they are mean.

image

We went to Home Depot to buy an electric lawn mower. We used the push mower for years now, but seriously two properlies and lost of lawn - it is no longer really feasible. It takes forever and it does a pretty crap job. It is fine for a small area. Anyhow, the butch saleschick at Home depot refused to sell us an electic lawn mower. They have them, they are more expensive than the gas ones, we defiantely wanted one and she pretty flat out refused to sell it because we really needed a gas one. I think that is pretty bullshit as it worked fine today after we bought it from Value Home Center on Elmwood, lol. I don't care if it doesn't have the HP of the gas guzzler one, I freakin don't want to have to deal with gas, or gas smell. If it breaks in three years, I will just have it fixed or buy a new one.

image

While there I drooled over the sinks they had. I wish my kicthen counter looked like this one. I want a new kitchen so bad:
image

and this outdoor room. How decadent is an outdoor fireplace. I think the one in the photo is photoshopped.
image

While buying a bunch of grill paraphenalia I found the chickcan. This is so frat.

image

Then we went to wegmans where I started lambstravaganza. I love the new grill, it makes everything awesome.

The Chemical Smell In The Water

Our Buffalo, NY tap water has this strange chemical smell during the last week or so. Just so you know its not me being paranoid, it is (e:terry) who pointed it out and he never smells anything.

The smell lingers after the water is gone and you can taste the smell in the shower vapor. It even has a bad aftertaste after brushing your teeth. The water filtration system int he kitch manages to remove the bad taste which means it is some sort of filterable chemical.

Anyone else have this problem? it is making me insane and no it is not the extra chlorine summer zebra muscle chlorine taste. It is something entirely new. I think I will bring it up at the block club meeting tonight and see if it is happening elsewhere.

Firefox 3 again

Seriously, the full zoom is amazing. It zooms everything text and media. This means that finally, you can design for normal vision and vision impaired people can zoom for till they can see what they need to. These are th kind of changes that browsers should have implemented from the get go. It beats having all those custo reize text button on every site and lets every aspect of the page zoom. Heck I even zoom sometimes now when I want to concentrate on an area of the page.

On a mac you hold down command and + or command and -. NOt sure the ocmbo on a PC but you should definately try it with Firefox 3

Zoomed estrip on Safari - fucked up only text zooms

It even remembers the zoom level when you return to the site you set it for.

Americana and Pearl Street and Change

The new firefox is great. You should get it

I wish I had something important to write about. Mostly, I have just been concentrating on work.

Now that the various lodgers are gone we have been slowly converting back to house mode. (e:matthew) is on this super pre July 4th Americana kick so the room is red white and blue.

image

Finally, the red couch I bought for (e:matthew) for his birthday - has a home.
image
image

The closet is still messy. I wonder if we should paint the drawers in the closet all red white and blue.

image

(e:mathew) and I headed down to Pearl Street Brewery last night to see (e:ladycroft) before she went back to Qatar. You can see pics on (e:metalpeter,44695)

It was great seeing her. 15 peeps showed up including (e:souternyankee) who I had not seen in so long and minus (e:imk2), who I had seen the day before . It was nice to catch up with everyone and Pearl street was beyond accomodating for us, making one big tables and even taking our pictures with a bunch of different cams. I wish I caught our waiters name because he was really one of the best waiters I ever had.
image

The Tenants
Afterwards, we stopped by the tenants to pick up the oh, so late rent. One of our tenants paid rent like 15 days late - in change - including pennies. I was fine with her being late because I am nice like that but havig to count out change including pennies is seriously ridiculous.

image

Not to mention that they never re-imbursed me for the fine we got for them not putting out the trash like she promised. She is movng out to south carolina in July. I think its time to let all those tenants go and just start over. That will give me time to redo the bathroom before new students move in, in the fall. Hell, maybe we can just sell it as I am so sick of dealing with students that can't pay rent on time.

Firefox 3

I was just testing out the site on firefox 3 release candidate which I assume will be very much like the real firefox 3 being released this afternoon at 1PM and it is very much faster. The only thing that makes me sad is that some of my dev plugins don't work. I am sure they will work in time. Between Safari and Firefox upgrades - I vae no idea how IE is going to keep up with their crap browser and their hillbilly javascript engine.
