iphone pre drama
Nice things coming:
activesync so I can use my outlook stuff on the phone
Things that I just can't be happy with:
Still no freakin cut copy paste.
no 3G
no real keyboard
no styles
no video camera
emails still only send one image called photo.jpg
the ability to mass move and delete emails
no flash
no streaming radio
And then, this I totally cannot believe but just read on CNET
The SDK item drawing the most attention Friday, however, is that third-party applications will not be allowed to run in the background. TechCrunch's Mike Arrington wrote, "Instant-messaging applications (we saw a demo of an AIM version at the event today), can't run in the background and collect messages while you are doing something else. Leave the application to take a phone call, and it shows you offline."
That is insane. Every phone in the world besides series 40s nokia and a few starter phones that are free from the telcos have the ability to run things as background tasks. It is a major step backwards to not have that ability.
This is what the apple docs have to say:
Writing Code for iPhone OS
The iPhone SDK supports the creation of graphically-oriented applications that run natively in iPhone OS. The applications you create reside on the user's Home screen, along with the other system applications, such as Photos, Weather, and Clock. After it is launched, aside from the kernel and a few low-level daemons, your application is the only application running on the system. While running, your application occupies the entire screen and is the focus of the user's attention. And when the user presses the Home button, your application quits and the system displays the Home screen again. Having the system to yourself is advantageous because it gives you full access to the underlying system resources. You can take advantage of built-in hardware such as the accelerometers, camera, and graphics hardware to run just your code.
So wow, it really can't run multiple apps. that seems so silly like that old palm OS that didn't let you run programs in the background. Somes the notphone or tilt have 10 programs or more running at once.

Black vs Woman President
I mean black men had the right to vote fifty years before any woman. Why not let it be the other way around this time and let the woman have a first, first. What really surprises me is that making fun of Hillary for being a woman, calling her bitch, etc is acceptable while calling racially demeaning names at Obama is considered unacceptable. I guess woman still are just less equal in the main stream - thats sad. On democracy now they just had a news brief saying that on average woman are paid 16% less then men for he same job. That just blows my mind.
According to it looks like Blacks are only 12.4% or 37.1 million of the US population while women are probably closer to 50% of the US population and maybe more.
I guess I always thought there were more black people. Probably because I grew up in buffalo which has such a large black population and then moved to South Carolina for a while which also had a lot of black people. Before reading that I seriously thought blacks were like 40%+ of the population. I guess I was just judging on my own observations.

iphone tommorow?
Luckily, fate and ATT answered this for me. Turns out that the iphone sim works in my tilt and the the iphone sim is cheaper per month than the tilt plan so I can switch back and forth and pay less.
So then I just needed to find an iphone. I bid on one on ebay that was reasonably price and lost in the last few seconds. Then I remembered a friend of mine had one and hated it and she loved my new nokia 7900. They cost about the same. So I IMed her and we scheduled a trade for tomorrow. I, however, am having a little bit of pre-partum depression as the nokia 7900 was the cutest, smallest, fastest 3G, tethering dream phone I ever had ;( At least my friend can tether now too.
On a side note this is the second night I worked on work from work till midnight. I think I might be a loser?

Jesse in China
I also have his email if anyone is interested.
Dear All, sorry about the mass email:
We need to find a stenographer for the Olympics (Beijing Olympic
Committee, the organization that administers the Olympic planning and
execution in Beijing).
The position starts now (now!), and will continue through the Olympics
(end of August).
1] The person would have to come to Beijing.
2] Airfare and housing are included.
3] The salary is 15000 RMB per day, that is more than $2000 per day,
continuing for 156 days.
Its a great deal, it's a great opportunity, the salary is many
times the US average yearly salary (the person could buy a new house
after the Olympics complete).
I am at the Beijing Olympics complex (in the media building), and so
am very close and could help with any problems, or interpreting, etc.
Pass this around, we need to find someone!
Best regards,
forrest fabian jesse

Purple Rice on New Spoons
Here I am eating it on one of my new spoons. I decided to get rid of the hodge podge of old silverware we had from the many lodgers and friends and start with one united set of really hefty stainless steel ones . They remind me of the ones I wrote about from Brodo a while back (e:paul,37521)
They also beat the aluminum foil grade metal ones we were previously using.
I also traded my plastic spatula for a metal one seeing as I got rid of the teflon pans I have no need for plastic cook ware anymore.

Horsefeathers,Buffalo Reuse,Old Editions
Today we went around to the various places to find door hardware. Unfortunately, no one had what we were looking for. I think it will require a blacksmith. Horse feathers over on Connecticut was the coldest fucking place I have ever shopped in. I am pretty sure it was warmer outside. I would never go back in the winter and I am sure I would never go back in the summer as it probably is too moldy and full of dog dander for me.
They have lots of stuff.
Looks like something (e:mike) would like.
And this cool window
Buffalo Reuse
Afterwards, we headed over to the ghetto to see if Buffalo Reuse had what we needed. They didn't either. The place was extremely disappointing to me. Same with the other time we visited over on Washington downtown before they over to North Hampton - which is an awesome street!!!
The prices were insane cheap but I would say 70% of the stuff was crap. There were some things that I couldn't believe anyone would bother reusing. They looked like crap from the get go. On the other hand, if you need a cheap door - it is the place to go. there were some doors as cheap as $10. also a place that requires hat, gloves, scarf as it is completely unheated.
I mean I think it is a good cause to keep stuff out of a landfill but I think they may need to re-evaluate what is salvageable. I know, everyone is going to hate me for saying this but I seriously think too much of it isn't going to go anywhere. maybe if they match up really poor people who need stuff with the crap that no one wants. I wish I took more pics so you could see but my fingers were too freezing after spending an hour at horsefeathers to press the camera button anymore.
The guy from Buffalo Reuse is supposed to come to our next block club meeting but I don't understand what they are going to say. Most of the stuff there was too craptastic for anyone to want in a fancy home and the people with fancy homes on our street are no looking to demolish so I am not quite sure it is a good match. Maybe if you need doorknobs, they have those.
On the way out of the East Side I spotted this nice house on North. I really liek this style house. I want to have one in the country someday.
Old Editions Book Shop
Then we headed over to old editions book shop in downtown Buffalo on Huron
This place was heated, unlike the other two shops, and had lots of great books and other collectibles. I think i could have bought a lot of things here if I had a lot of time and a library to fill. Or maybe if I read more or had interests outside of computing. Definitely worth the trip, I would go back.
They had some book on slang history where I learned the meaning of Queer Bitch
They had this fancy map that cost $4,000
Fianlly, I headed over to feelrite and the pet store on Delaware. They had this whole section of dog treats that were definitely marketed at humans. I mean I have seen dogs eat some nasty shit. I doubt they care if it has sprinkles on their sheep ear and eyeball goop crunchies.
I just wish somewhere had one of these horn chairs I really want.

Deconstruction and Reconstruction
These first two pictures are before with the addon bathroom still there.
After work I took this pic but it was dark. Thew new window in the Hall makes it so much bigger and brighter. Now to replace it with some stained glass and 24 Linwood will be back to how it was, minus the wallpaper.
It is hard to tell from these pics but looking from the living room across the foyer, under the stairs and out the window makes it look huge.

Floors and Bathrooms
So we wanted to move the bathroom into the drawing room closet or in the under the stairs closet. Unfortunately, neither place seems to want to work.
The drawing room closet is really just too small. It would be almost impossible to fit a toilet in the bathroom not to mention a not rail skinny person.
The under the stairs closet is awesome because it has plenty of space but the issue it is right over the electrical panel for the whole house. That seems like a bad idea having water over huge electrical panel. So the option there is to move the whole house electrical panel but that is a huge freakin job and I just don't have the time as the Linwood Home tour is April 27th and we are just about commit to be in it.
So what does this mean? It means we are going to give up the bathroom and not replace it right now in order to get the floors done and get the open staircase we wanted with the window. This is all with the intention of replacing it in the summer after moving the electrical panel in the basement. Either that or put a bathroom on floor three.
I can't wait till it is all open again and the window brings light into the foyer.
Here are some pics (e:matthew) took of the wall paper we found under the paneling in the bathroom.
