Buffalo Rising

What is going on with Buffalo Rising these days? I seems like it only gets slower and slower on my broadband connection. I hate the way it loads in chunks and takes so long. Sometimes it takes almost 30 seconds to load a single page. I am going to inspect it more today and see if I can figure out what is causing the delay.

(Buffalo, NY, December 26, 2006) - Chaos erupted inside a North Buffalo movie theater Monday night. It was the scene at the Regal Cinemas on Elmwood Avenue around nine o'clock Monday night.

Police say several fights broke out involving dozens of teenagers.

It apparently began in both the lobby area and inside several theatres, and then quickly spilled outside...

Sounds like the regal is going to go the way of the disco theater that used to be across the street.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph Google Kangaroo

I think the google logo in reference to (e:theecarey,347) is in fact Jesus, Mary and Joseph as kangaroos. I think making it kangaroos makes it somehow removed from being a true manger scene but I think that is what it is. A pseudo manger scene.

On another note, who knows more about the etheopian war with somalia. According to google news, ethiopia ( a christian nation) attacked Somalia (an islamic nation) with fighter jets. Where do you think ethiopia got fighter jets from? The last thing I remember about ethiopia is that they couldn't even feed their own people.

they stayed with us in the meantime. the only somalian i remember is mag-a-a, what's your name?
i came home from summer camp one day to find a family i didn't know in my house. they didn't speak english and didn't understand my spanish (i knew they were african, but i figured i'd try anyway...) then i walked upstairs to find that there were more children in my bedroom and i was moved in to share a room with my sister. only the guy spoke english and the woman was about 9 months pregnant with baby number 6. interesting experience living with them.

Ethiopia and Somalia have been at war, on and off, for the past 40 years. It doesn't particularly have anything to do with religion although on some level I'm sure that is a motivating factor. For years they have been disputing land acquisitions. A problem with Somalia is that there really isn't an effective central government... as far as Somali people are concerned there can be no effective central government unless this government takes a militant stance towards occupation of what they believe is Somali land by other countries - Ethiopia and Kenya included. Historically there has been major, major animosity between these two countries.

Under British colonialism, a segment of land between Somalia and Ethiopia was controlled by the British and subsequently was given via a treaty to Ethiopia. Somalia disputes the legitimacy of the treaty, so there you go. Most reports that I have read on the subject generally put the origin of the hostility on Somalia but I think its hard to be positive, but in the end it doesn't particularly matter because just like the Israeli/Palestinian conflict I don't believe that there will be a peaceful solution to what is going on in the horn of Africa either. They hate each other and that is the bottom line.

As far as the fighter jets, etc. goes - it wouldn't particularly surprise me if Ethiopia has jets while having a major humanitarian problem. We are seeing that exact scenario in North Korea, and historically much of Africa, just like Latin America, has been run by military juntas and/or dictators who rarely have given a concern about whether or not their people can feed themselves.

Ajay is correct that most of the war technology used by these countries is Soviet based, as is most of the weaponry, etc. throughout most of Asia and 'rogue' states as well. In fact most of the weapons circulated around the world are of Soviet origin. So much so that the American military has previously modified the M-16 so that could accept both American and Soviet munitions since often on the field of battle they scavenge the munitions of the enemy as they move.

But Ethiopia's neighbor and arch enemy is Eretrea and Eretrea supports the Islamic forces in Somalia which is the opposite side that Ethiopia supports. Eretrea was a part of Ethiopia and fought a long civil war to get independence. I think they had two wars after that, the first Ethiopia lost but the more recent one Ethiopia won big time. This is all from memory so if my facts are off, sorry bout that!

The poor 3rd-world nations were big customers of Soviet arms, because unlike the Americans, Soviet stuff is designed to be used in harsh conditions with minimal maintenance. Case in point: the AK47. Even the MiG fighters and the Mi-xx helicopters are built like tanks.

I cannot believe they already have 750GB drives for around $300 retail price. That mean soon we will not longer see drives listed in GB but instead in TB. Remember the last of the 750MB drives when the 1GB drive came out. Do you think this could be the end of mp3 compressed music storage. I keep wondering when we will no longer need to store images and sound in compressed format. Or it could just be the beginning of the true video age.

The noise in the attic is not a third floor burglar but a colony of the fattest squirrels I have ever seen. Seriously they are about the size of cats and they are very territorial. I am going to try and get a video of them.

Long Day With The Hos

My day started out at 7:30am when I woke up to go pick up (e:hodown) from the airport. Afterwards we ate at solid grounds. After that we ate at outback.

This is a mix of stuff from back at the house warming, I stole from (e:hodown)'s camera and from stuff that happend to (e:hodown) in vegas and stuff from today.

She insisted on doing a drive by of the woman in white, declaring as she rolled down the window, "What a beautiful building."

One eyed Jack's in Lockport

Thi sis the second year in a row I went with the team from work to One Eyed Jack's in Lockport for BBQ. You can check out their website here

The food is delicious. Especially their smoked chicken wings. They honestly taste amazing. It is rare I eat more than five but I think with these ones I could eat 15 as they are not deep fried and and not very greasy at all.

This is the second time in a week that I have been to a restaurant with an Alf doll on the wall. What is up with that. I was with tony and del both times. Coincidence?

At lunch today onc of my co-workers from China said that in Japan they grow pigs in boxes to make them square shaped as an art. I can find no evidence about this on google japanese (GOOGLE - square shaped box pigs) but he has access to the web in chinese. The same web that brought you golden balls (e:paul,4594)

Has anyone else heard of this?

Ninendo Wii And Opera

Nintendo Wii introduced opera browser for the gaming consol the morning. I read that the input uses the wand the same way it does for typing out your wii name, etc. Iw onder why they didn't make it have handwriting recognition as it would be easy to dra wthe letter in the air. I guess gamera are really good at hitting small targets so typing on the lkeyboard should be no problem for them.

Apparently it even work seamlessly with flash player 9 which lets you view youtube video on your wii. That really extends the capabilities of the media device in such a awesome way at no additional cost to nintendo. I wonder why other media corporations such as microsoft cannot do the same for their pocket pcs.

Not only does opera work on the nintendo wii but it also works on the nintendo DS protable

For a mobile browser opera is one of the best. There is a real standalone version and for anyone who has a java enabled phone there is oper amini which is definitely the best browser for any regular internet capable phone in existence.
