Lots of Stuff

I have so much to do. I have letters to write still, a thesis to write, a new server to find, etc. I can;'t believe a whole day slipped by without me updating. I was still recovering from the weekend.

servers
I am sick of service that isn't stable. Sometimes it is so fast, sometime it is so slow. There is no way for me to test anything when the conditons are so variable. I am going to get my own server very soon. I just need to cover the $144 start up fee. Then it is $104/month which is essentially the same cost that I am paying for adelphia at home $59.99 + the server I am using now $39.95. The difference being that I can have the server running at home which would make life much more fun, but would require that I have it running 24/7. Imagine being able to backup a server with an external hardrive instead of FTP. It isn't that important for most sites, but when you cross into the GB range, it become a must. Plus, I can develop without having to ever upload changes. I predict it would save me somewhere around 10-15 hours a week.

soyeon
Soyeon, contacted me to get her old journals back, apparently when she pressed erase some 300 times she forgot to save a copy. I was really weirded out to get an IM from her, let alone one asking for a favor. I found all the ones up to the month she deleted them. I was going to give them to her nicely, but then I changed my mind because I remember how annoying she was and didn't feel like I owed her anything. Maybe, I would sell them to her, maybe not.

Apple
Apple is lame. [inlink]nicholas,67[/inlink] I could have told anyone that their processors sucked. Doesn't it make you sick that it was all a lame advertising propaganda campaign that made you pay more for the laptop processor that sucks. I had a powerbook for years. I had a bunch of them up to the Powerbook G4. They all sucked and they were all hot. Then I got a centrino, it was amazing, great battery life, fast speed, quiet fan. I love it. It has been two years now that I have been happy. And now that apple is just a pretty "skin" will Apple sell Mac OS X for other intel based computers?

My MFA Degree - My Job

I finally got my letter accepting me as a graduation Candidate for 9/05. I also checked my final grades and it looks like I am going to be graduating with a 4.0. So now I am finishing a 60 credit Masters in Fine Arts, I have a huge portfolio full of great stuff , and years of experience.

It was definately worth it because I just accepted my dream job making $17,000/year at Canisius with no health benefits. It's about the same amount they paid me when I had only a undergraduate degree in German Language. Ironically, school cost more than that. They told me once again it might go full time in January. I am a sucker for stories aparently. They told me that one for four years now. I guess there is still hope the salary could go up.

It's sad because I had planned on using the money I made working full time and reinvesting it in this site. I just want it to be on a fast server so that my years of programming can be fully appreciated. I guess it will have to wait another year.

The reason this happend to me is because I don't want to work for some big corporation and I don't want to have to leave my home town. Where are all the non-profits that need designers and web techs. The going bid is $17,001, at this point, lol. Please someone rescue me before it is too late, I am truly capable of making anything happen on the web.

Taste of Buffalo

The taste of Buffalo is moving to Niagara Sqaure. I wonder what prompted the moving of the Taste of Buffalo?

That's right, the Taste is moving from the urban intimacy of Main Street to the wide-open plains of Niagara Square and Delaware Avenue. With City Hall as a backdrop point your compass North and you'll find restaurants, beverage tents and entertainment almost all the way to Chippewa Street! Enjoy the ample elbow room the new location provides as you sample old favorites and new tastes from many of Buffalo and Western New York's favorite restaurants!Quoted from: Taste of Buffalo

Transparent PNG Test

This is a test 24bit PNG image to make sure it works when uploaded in IE.

So today we had like 6 million guests probably from the sidewalk chalk, yet I was playing with the online guest code to make it more efficient, so nobody saw them in the number of guests. No fear, it is accurate again.

Calamari Fritti

(e:terry) and I collborated on the making of Calamari Fritti. They are delicioso. The recipe:

Pull the freakin brains out of the Calamari. That was my job. You can see them in the strainer. I thought it was gross, but ntohing beats (e:robin) 's blackberry story.

The next step is breading with flour, corn meal, salt, pepper, oregano and just a dash of basil. The (e:terry) fried them in canola oil. It has a higher frying temp than olive oil. Last heast up some tomato sauce and enjoy.

Oxytocin Trust

University students who inhaled the hormone in a nasal spray were discovered to be far more trusting of one another -- eager, in fact, to hand over money to strangers in investment deals.

The results suggest trust can be bottled and used to forge commercial relationships. Quoted from: The Globe and Mail: Building trust via nasal spray

This sounds like the most horrible discovery ever. I could easily be used to bend reality and create a totally fictional adherence to "truth and justice." I would rest easier if I just didn't know it existed. It kind of explains the concept of the sex vixen spy agent.

Working at the rose garden

It was so hot out today. They have already begun constructing the shakespeare in the park pavillion with a crane. The tulips loook great in the rose garden but the roses are
suffering from some sort of disease. I hope make it out.

Rose garden, then printing flyers

I am off to the rose garden to go help my mother volunteer. Then I am going to have more flyers printed. One set for everyday use and one for pride weekend. They are mini size bookmark flyers so that I print 14 to a page. That way I feel they are more environmentally responsible. Here is a preview, there may be more, depending how much time I have between writing letters, writing thesis. coding, and eating.

The new general use flyer with more to come.

I hate the phone

I hate telephones. Especially, the kind that live in one place and can't move like mine. I would prefer to just use email because we have one phone, that is never charged, upstairs and away from everything. It makes it just about impossible to deal with phone calls. I am available in like 600 other ways, just not the phone anymore. Unfortunately, I have to occasionally interface with the rest of the world that still uses the telephone.

Like when our friends call to do something. there is a 99% better chance you could reach me via IM, SMS, (e:strip) or simply email. I always have it with me on my sidekick. i refuse to use the sidekick as a phone because it costs $.20/minute and I am poor. The internet features, however, are unlimited for $29/month.

Another example, my former boss has been trying to get ahold of me because I sent the chair of the department an emailrequesting my former job back. I know, I now, everyone thinks that makes me a loser (and it does) but I want to be able to have time in case that Boston non-profit job pans out but to also be able to eat.

If i got the non-profit job too(sidenote: I don't get my hopes up about jobs anymore), then I would be teaching adv web programming, doing advanced web programming and teaching graphic design on the side..

So anyways, we have been playing phone tag for three days.

In his message he said he would call back tonight around 8PM. Hopefully, it works out and I at least can make enough money to eat and live while I deal with everything else and find an appropriate job for my skill level.
