Living in the dorms

(e:terry) and I were helping sang move out of the dorms. The dorms are such a weird subculture of America. I lived in the dorms for only a short period of time, like 6 months because I got kicked out for having a tortoise.

Server Costs - Response to Uncut

[inlink]uncutsaniflush,54[/inlink] I don't think I will ever have advertisers on (e:strip). To me that would represent the ultimate failure of the public sphere I was trying to create when I programmed it. I like to use this example. Suppose that I had accepting advertising from Pano's and then the whole controversy arose with the knocking down of the building and everyone writing about it. Then I would be in this awkward situation where I have to balance the interest of the writers with the interests of the advertisers. That would stifle talk around here, but also would end up being more work than just getting a job and paying for it.

I think I will probably just get another job and pay for it like I have for the past three years. Hopefully, I can just find a job and get a fast connection and host the site at home. (e:shawnr) asked me to work with him on his site games first!

Maybe he and I will combine efforts and we could host it altogether. I could also host some other sites to help pay for it. At least I already have the fancy ass server. Now I just need to work on the connection. It looks like a good DSL with static IP is around $105/month in Buffalo. That is not too high, but I will need to host some other stuff in order to make it possible.

If you have any sites that need hosting, switching them over to my server (currently there is plenty of space for regular sites) would be a great way to help defray the cost. I have plenty of space now.

Don't worry about me canceling the site just yet. Unless you are at Canisius. The site no longer reaches there as I can't afford bandwidth for them anymore.

If we figure it would cost $104 per month to host it locally plus $144 in set up fees. That would be $1392 to fund it for a yearly. But like I said that would not just be (e:strip) , that would be a whole server with hudnreds of gigabytes of space for other stuff. If it was on a local server I would definately be able to make it way cooler as well.

Or maybe we could have a fundraiser.

The other option is to keep it how it is far away in some other state and pay $40/month. At least until we fill up the 6GB we have. Currently, we are using 1.2GB. That should give us a while and only costs $480/year. For the last couple years I just paid for everything with additional donation money coming from (e:drchlorine) who gets the golden donor award.

Had I gotten the job at Canisius I was going to front the cost for the server myself, but now that is on hold till I figure someting out.

Better still
Does anybody do grant writing? That would be the most ideal situation and I really think we could qualify for lots of grants. I really don't think I will have time anytime soon to research and write them as I need ot finish my thesis. Maybe someone else wants to do that?

If you can think of anything else (e:uncutsaniflush) , I am totally open to lots of things accept advertising. Although, I already wrote a pretty fancy advertsing module for the site. (e:twisted) has it for the western site. Maybe she will start using it as soon as I finish her business diretcory!! ;)

GPS tracking

Who would have thought it could be so easy to track and keep logs. We will never have to fight about directions this time. It only cost $40 and I bought it two years ago.

Techno-itinerate Worker

Today we discussed sending me to work in a big city and sending the money back to my poor family in Buffalo. I could then experience life as an itinerate worker. It may be the only way that I can reach my earning potential.

On another note I am dying to work for the Mafia. If anyone has connections, please forward them to me. I am not joking about that.

I officially quit at Canisius today as the thought of working for slave wages anymore makes me sick. They got plenty of notice so everyone should be happy.

I will not be returning to Canisius as Multimedia Specialist or Adjunct Professor. I am telling you now so that you have plenty of time to find someone. I was also wondering if you could write me a recommendation letter so that I may file it with my resume when applying for jobs. It isn't for any specific job, just a review of my responsibilities and services while at Canisius.

(e:shawnr) and his wife have a similar situation. It is precisely why people leave Buffalo.

Organic Valley Bacon Sucks

I have eaten the worst bacon on earth. It is made by Organic Valley and is flavorless and pure fat. It's the most expensive bacon we ever saw (on sale at $4.79 at the Lexington Coop), so we thought it would be good. It was seriously disgusting.

Both the Applegate Farm's or Wegman's nitrate free bacon tastes 1000 times better.

Nice Evening

For Friday the Thirteenth everything went well so far. I wen tout and ate Vietnamese food at the reopened Vietnamese restaurant between Utica and Hodge on Elmwood. It was tasty. Then we had chocolate Martini's with Holly over at the crack mansion. It was nice to catch up.

Towers Rebuilt

I was compressing some of the structures for josephines the The Trial the Trail today. It is amazing how this tower looks even better with fewer triangles. I might still redo the texture though.
