Communist Education

In the reading I have to do for school tonight, it teaches you how to build a robot that spray paints protest messages.

As the vehicle rolls along the ground, the row of spray cans prints a text message in much the same way that a dot-matrix printer would. For example the word CAPITALIST would be written as:

Notice their spelling of Capitalist in the dot matrix version.

midi madness

I am becomming obsessed with midi again after listening to (e:terry) 's journal [inlink]terry,405[/inlink]. I think for my next collection, I will collect about 10,000 midi songs and start a site for midi ringtones and to let people add music to their journals easily. I can't believe how much is out there. WHat are the laws on this stuff?

I really kind of enjoy the way that Nirvana is so musakified in this midi format. It's almost like listening to Nirvana on an accordian. It reminds me of sitting under the bridge at Delaware park and lighting stuff on fire as a kid.

Serial Killah

I am going to turn into a serial killer soon and I don't mean of people. I hate serial ports. I just lost the last twleve hours of my life trying to interface the stupid basic stamp with the web. Not to mention that my office is a wreck with little resistors and LEDs all over the place. I am determined that my stamp is developmentally challenged.

I am also really sure that I don't want to get to know computers on a more intimate level. I am quite satified being a web developer, graphic designer and 3D modeler without needing to understand the complexities of serial communication between the basic stamp and the vaio.

I hope to be delivered from this soon.

Basra and Valentino

Valentino fell asleep tucket up next to basra's heatrock. They are so cute together. I wish I was a tortoise or maybe just that I had a heatrock. Maybe that is what elmwood needs to attract more tourism, the worl'd alrgest human heatrock. THey could put it in the parking lot between Wilson Farm's and Globe Market seeing as nothing else seems to be there. For a while I heard rumors that Cozumel had bought the property and was building another restaurant.

Cutting my beard

I am giving up on the terrorist asthetic and shaved my beard down. I would have shaved my head too, but it was just too cold to justify that move.

Not epoetry

So I was testing the chat while programming it and kept having to chat with myself to make sure it was working. It sounds really funny to read it afterwards.

Toronto Trip

Yesterday, the Electronic Arts class I took went on a trip toronto yesterday so I was out of network for the day. What a weird feeling it was to be so detached but then with so many people. I had to turn my phone off cause the last time I left it on, it cost $34.00 for the day.

First, we went to the York univeristy gallery and saw the work of controversial artist Istvan Kantor . His work was centered around machine sex cyber culture and filing cabinets. Robots had sex with filing cabinets and people seemed to be part of it in a very post-apocalyptic, cyber punk kind of way.

One artwork invloved file cabinets that were interactive. There was an area of the room that when you stood in it, you were recorded. Then there was a set of file cabinets that would store your video feed. Depending which drawer was open and how far it was open, a particular video feed would be projected at a certain segment in that feed. On either side was projected a video of a chair/machine having "sex" with a man.

We went shopping at an army surplus store with lots of electronics. I was so overwhelmed that I had no idea what to buy. I ened up with a sheet of copper and a part of a credit card reader. I am sure I will have to head back before the project is over.

Afterwards, we went to interaccess, a gallery/workspace, that kind of reminded me of squeaky wheel. They had a show on a dress that had fabric which changed color when current was added, I liked it, even though it was primitive because I am interested in something like that for Cassie and I's project. Turns out Cassie and I went to the same highschool at the same time.

In the evening we went out for dinner and drinks and met up with Mark Bolen. It was a pretty interesting evening.

soyeon - Well,

Soyeon, I was not attacking you as a person I was disagreeing with your judgement about that image and have been too busy to discuss it any further, as I have been so extremely busy. I don't think anyone else was trying to "attack" you either, but I'll let them speak for themselves.

I wasn't mad at you or trying to make you feel bad. You should really work on being less sensitive or you will end up spending your whole life melancholy, betrayed, and offended.

Sorry, it had to end this way. Paul

Electronics Field Trip

No, that is not a band name, it is my title for Saturday, the day that my electronics class field takes a field trip to toronto. My goal is to meet Steve Mann , Maybe it will happen, maybe not. Hopefully, Jesse comes along as we need to plan for the upcomming hardware projects.

I am quite nervous about the day, as it begins at 8:00am so that I can get to North Campus by 9:15. I suppose it will work out and I will end up having access to many new electronic parts that will fulfill my hardware dreams.

I wonder what my life would be like if every day could have 8 more hours. Or better yet if the meaningless tasks and hoop jumping could be erased from my schedule. It is so unfortunate that I feel like right now I am at the peak of my productive time as an artist, programmer, designer and I am spending countless hours filling out forms. Take for example today's resume production time. It is still not done, but I spent the good part of four hours assembling a resume for a job upgrade that I am hoping for. It is not terribly important because of the million and a half other potential job offers, but it would make me quite happy and validate the money I spent on "training" myself to be an authority [inlink]robin,339[/inlink] of digital communication art.

I got rid of the snowflakes on the site today. It felt liberating to say, "enough, no more snow" to my computer. If only the weather could be interfaced so easily.
