hodown dinner

Hodown is in town and her face is really messed up in the name of cosmetic beauty. I tried to get a pic but she wouldn't let me.

Dinner was especially delicious tonight. WE has steamed muscles in white wine sauce, peppers stuffed with gorgonzola, bacon wrapped scallops, and gourmet salad with cranberries. Yum

I miss lisa, it is so weird with her being gone

Wireless Internet

I am so dissapointed in the Buffalo Niagara airport. I brought my new laptop here, the one that is finally working and they have a wirless connection but it is pay as you go. The thing is instead of having any sort of realistic micropayment system they require you to pay $6.95 for the entire day. Who pays fro an entire day of service at the aitport. I guess if you are in a desparate situation and really need to check your email but $6.95 is eally steep for people who are mostly only spending an hour here. It should be like $2 per hour, better yet free. I mean, don't airports make enough money charging exorbetant amounts for coffee and drinks. If you were a serious travelrer it would atcually be cheaper to buy a gprs card and connect with that, then paying the $6.95/day that the airport charges.

SPeaking of wireless internet, does anyone know what the situation is with the wireless internet on elmwood. A while back (e:ajay) mentioned it and I remmber some other people talking about it but I haven't heard any confirmatory information. WIll it be pay as you go or simply free. If it is not free, who is going to use it?

One dollar crumpled

I know this sounds like an (e:angryshortkid) inspired journal but does anyone else hate this situation? You have what appears to be a perfectly legimate $1 bill but the tasty machine refuses to accept. You try ironing it, rotating it, kicking the machine. Then you look in your pocket and every other bill is larger than a $1 - but your machine only takes $1 bills and the new "take 5" pretzel chocolate bar is laughing at you at this point. Argh.

Main Street

I decided to take main street instead of the highway as there is so much new slick snow ? sleet. It is so slow as I have hit every red light on the way to teach some PHP to digital poetics students. I hope they like it.

I met with the chair of my dept today and they are still crossing their fingers on the full-time position. It really is their last year to decide. I feel bad because the department so obviously wants a new faculty member in the program but the school keeps dodging out on the money and I can't live without health insurance forever. It is kind of getting ridiculous now as there are over 150 majors and only 2 full-time faculty members.

If it doesn't work out I will just take one of the other million and a half job offers, but I have my heart set on teaching right now.

Bored with a Scanner

I decided to program estrip to work on gameboy advance, or I was bored with a scanner and photoshop.

image

I also found some examples I used to teach my first class a couple years ago. I wonder what I should do with all this stuff. For now I will just add it to my coffee table book.

It's over

I refuse to do anymore work until I can get a new laptop. I am officially on strike.

I used to love it but I am at the point where I want a new one. I guess if I can hold off till next year they will be so much better but not if I have to deal with shit like this. If I have to reinstall windows this weekend I am just going to boot it in linux and never look back. To bad most of the non-coding work I do is windows and mac specific. Luckily, Maya isn't either So I guess I need to just stop doing every non-3d, non-programming computer thing I do!

Next laptop, no windows.

Korean Missles

Did anyone read about north korea's missle announcement, it sounds pretty ominous. I got this swf from the nbc site, note that CA is within the death ring, while elmwoodstrip seems safe. Enough for me not to move to CA. (e:twisted) I think you will have to move here for safety reasons.

Peter Singer Scandal On Television

So I guess local networking really works. Congratulations (e:maidencateyes) . Sorry the images are so bad. After gathering people that were scammed by Peter Singer together through the site, and working with Channel 4 Call For Action where my mother is director, (e:maidencateyes) was able to expose Peter Singers apartment scandal on the television.

Cell Phone scavenger Hunt

I haven't decided exactly how I want this to work but I was thinking something like , teams of people with a camera phone run around the city in order to be the first to post various pics of landmarks, etc.

It could have lots of clue components but I am not that good at writing games / stories. I would think maybe this is something for someone with a mind for writing like (e:drchlorine) or if he still existed maybe even (e:stickboy)

(e:ajay) maybe we could add some GPS component to this?

Keystroke recorders

Somehow this get on my system

I noticed my computer having all sorts of problems, and always thinking the cntl key was down. I tried to do a virus scan, used adaware, lost my internet connection and networking for about an hour, etc. FInally I decided to try spybot and found that somehow there was a keylogger by winwhatwhere.com on my system. I feel so totally violated. If would personally like to see the developers of that stabbed to death with spoons.

As a matter of fact, I don't think there is a heinous enough death not only for them but whoever brought it to my system. The question is how did it get there. And furthermore, what information it took with it. Probably my bank passwords. What is so crazy is that my laptop never leaves my side, so we can rule out any physical entry. And i don't use explorer, so we can rule that out to. I am also always behind at least two firewalls. In this case three. The main router, the wireless router, and the windows firewall. So maybe they arn't really getting any data.

Is WinWhatWhere or TrueActive Monitor on my computer?

The chances of our software being installed on your personal system without your knowledge are very remote.

WinWhatWhere/TAM cannot simply appear on a computer without being installed. It needs to be installed by having direct access to the machine. It cannot be installed from the Internet or from an email without your active participation. It does not tag along with other downloads. TrueActive as a company has NEVER installed our software where it wasn't requested. We never will.

Many detector programs will report the presence of our software when, in fact, it is not there. They base their determination on the presence of certain files. However, the files they use to indicate the presence of our software are also used by many other applications - not just ours. Some of these programs even make the claim that they've uninstalled our software, taking credit for something that we know is not possible to do without our own administration program.

We share your concern and annoyance with the "false positive" reports from these detector programs. They are causing unnecessary worry for many computer users.

I find that hard to believe, what use would it be if people had to allow it to install!
