e:strip webmail upgrade

For those select few of you that have your own estrip webmail I have upgraded the webmail program and the email server so that your draft, trash, and sent boxes work again. In order to enable them, simply click on options->folder preferences once you are logged into the webmail client. Then select the appropriate Inbox.drafts, Inbox.sent, and Inbox.trash for each of the boxes you want to enable.

PHP 5.1.4 upgrade

Today is the day the new PHP 5.1.4 has entered my life. We are at version 5.1.2 on (e:strip) and moving on to version 5.1.4 this evening. I already installed it on all the windows servers at work. Now I need to compile it for the (e:strip) linux server which is much more of a chore. I am glad I didn't bother for 5.1.3 as there was a major bug with $_POST variables that would have made a mess of my life.

Finally this version lets you ignore errors thrown by GD when working with jpegs. Anyone who has worked with mobile phone images knows that this is a blessing. Also some upgrades to simplexml for creating nodes and attribute. Here is the whole changelog since PHP 5.

Hopefully, everything turns out great like every other PHP upgrade we have had since version 4.0.3.

Fixed the email

I fixed it so that the email properly reports who it was sent from. There was a bug where the sender was showing up blank.

Maybe we will win?

I was looking at the other competition for best local blog and I think there is a possibilty of winning. It all depends of how people perceived the meaning of blog. We are more of a blogging community.

I think we have a lot going over but I think we have some still competition from and

However, I personally voted us for best local website and I have a feeling lots of the readers did to, so that probably reduced our overall votes in the best local website category.

I honestly cannot believe buffalo.com, buffalohaybars.com and buffalobarfly are on the best website list.

Well, best of luck. See you at the event.

Custom Themes Continued

I saw (e:scott)'s comment about how he updated his theme, so here is the new visual.

image

I am thinking about adding a preference option to have it "autoplay" a user's theme if they have one made when you are logged in and visit their journal.

Rememeber for even more control there is always the API.

More updates - custom themes

It's been a busy night. You can now edit your own custom color themes.

The color picker comes with no instructions other than these few simple ones.

Open up the custom color control panel by clicking on the color palette icon in your control panel.

To change a color, click on the color in your swatch table.

The color slider widget saves the color into a little palette to grab later, if you want to return to the original color.

Now simple change the slider to change the color. When you have changed enough color you can save your theme.

Image paths such as the background image and hr can both be absolute URLS.

Once you have saved your theme, you can select it from the theme list by clicking on the default face icon in the themes list at the top of the site.

You cannot and will not be able to change the layout, it you wish a different layout, you can use the estrip api.

I will probably update the interface soon but for now it is functional.

Hint: you may need to empty your cache if you find your themes color changes are not taking hold.

Your welcome,
Paul
