Artvoice Best Of Buffalo 2008
There is a category for best blogger and I selfishly voted for myself. You can feel free to vote for yourselves.

Like the sound of (e:Terry)'s new hack and kill game with the girl with the red hair in the background? Sounds like I am reporting at some battle ground.

NFTA Bus Schedules Made Easy - Buffalo
I decided to make a much simpler list for downloading the NFTA metro Bus and Rail schedules as I was so sick of navigating the stupid NFTA site to get the Bus schedule PDFs on my mobile. Its also at a simpler URL, estrip.org/nfta If you mobile doesn't do PDFS then this isn't so great but its still an easier way to load the PDFs on your computer for printing. Because of this I added a jpeg version as well. If you click the jpeg link next to a route, it converts the pdf to jpeg on the file for you so that you can view it with any image viewer. Maybe I will do a plain text version soon, if I have some time.
It sucks that the schedules are in PDF format for most people but hopefully this at least makes them easier to get to. If I have time I might convert the data as well.
Download the NFTA metro rail and bus schedules for Buffalo, NY and save them somewhere

Switching Servers
At first it will just run estrip v5 like the current site but having both versions on one server will make it much easier for me to transition the data between the versions.
So at some point today the site may be down for a tiny bit.
--paul
P.S. If anyone still wants to donate to the server fund we almost made it all the way to 100%. Thanks to everyone who helped - your support gives estrip a bright future with a new fancy server.

blah blah AOL millions Fuck Off

why does your chatter box show most recent at the top instead of the bottom? its like reading a paper in Asia. Why follow a conversation backwards? AOL made millions the other way.
The reason I don't copy the AOL chat style is because our chatter box is in a browser and the latest chat is most important, not the chat from the near past. So when people get to the site on a smaller screen or even on a big screen but a smaller window they can still see the latest, more important info from the chat without have to scroll below the fold. Same with a mobile browser, there is no reason to keep having to scroll down to check for new data in the box.
Just because AOL made a convention like that (in a completely separate context - dedicated chat program/versus piece of web site) I see no reason to have to follow it. Should I also have it say "You get mail!" when the user gets a message and fill their inbox with loads of spam?
Secondly, I have no interest in making millions from estrip if that is what you are suggesting and I definitely don't think the chat being the other way is what is separating me from being a millionaire. Have you not noticed there is no commercial aspect to this site?
Fuck off,

One idea is to blow the curve in a category nobody participates in. Let me put it this way: when we say 'Blogger,' everyone says 'Buffalo Pundit,' whether they read it or not. But only about six people in the city are going to have an opinion on Buffalo's Best Writer [and if AV's book reviews are any indication, they're probably all terrible writers of terrible poetry]. Or maybe (e:terry) is Buffalo's Best Genre-Defying Artist. How much of AV's aging white readership is really going to have an opinion on Best Soul Food? Can it really compare to (e:matthew)'s hypothetical chicken and gluten-free waffles? Just sayin'.
Another fun idea is to vote as a bloc in a category that does not generally invite consensus. Everyone has an opinion on Loudest Complainer, and they're all different. [Unfortunately I don't think the Loudest Complainer gets a plaque, too bad.] The 24 could certainly be my Favorite House or Building, but there's always the terrible possibility of losing that category to the Terminal.
You can totally win this, and create small amounts of public chaos at the same time - a win-win - if you use a little imagination.
