Comments and other updates

comments fixed
I really fixed comments. Just to make sure you are posting comments to the correct journal and id#, it now shows you were comment is getting posted to right on the add comment form page. If it isn't correct (which should never happen) don't post.

the little hand that could
I also added the little hand thing that follows you down the page when you scroll down a journal. Clicking on it returns you back to the top of the page faster than you can say top. The hand only shows up when you have scrolled down a bit and it can be found on the left side of the journal column. Beats having to scroll back up on a long entry like (e:matthew,725)

estrip api
I put the link to the api back up. I have no idea what had happend to it or who david was that asked me about it. But either way you can use it to incorporate the contents of your journal with your own web page on your own server live. Meaning that you web page can show what on your journal and you cn style it however you want. e.g.

theme updates
I also updated every single theme to try and get rid of an color inconsistences and fix anything that was missing. Orange is now the default theme because it changed so much. The other themes did not change as drastically but did receive minor improvements.

bug fixes and chalk

I fixed lots of little bugs that were left from the old system today. I also re-wrote a large amount of javascript and AJAX stuff.

What got fixed/changed:

1. No more flickering everytime it checks for new users. Instead of refrshing the entrire userpic section, only new user pics are loaded in and old ones removed when the users sign out.

2. The safari previous ten, next ten bug was fixed.

3. The Object ID # comment bug got fixed. No more orphaned comments.

4. Moved the show all comments link to front page for easily exploring the latest comments.

5. Fixed search bug when higlighted search wrod was also in the name of the picture, the picture would not display properly. Now hilighted word sonly show up in text nodes, leaving pictures in tact.

6. fixed hangman entry box, previosuly it was too small. Just so everyone relaizes, I did not get rid of hangman, you just have to click the hangman button to play.

(e:mike) and (e:jill) chalked a lot of the sidewalks on elmwood with estrip advertisements. I will try and take pics tomorrrow.

New mini userpic titles and latest

The latest entries refreshes itself every 60 seconds. If you want to reload it before that without leaving the page, just hit the (reload 12) link at the bottom on the list and it will manually reload.

The mini pics now report what level of journal writer you are. The data is dynamic, I may change what type of data is displayed after (e:kara) and I talk about it some more. I am the only one in the 200+ category. If a new user only has the default face it now prints their username on the mini pic.

This was before I added the numbers when only admin users showed up with text.

3d data graphs

I have so much freakin cool stuff in store but I have so littel time to implement it all. Anyways, the first thing to complement the comments thing on the fron page is a new 3D live data comments graph. It shows the number of comments per day for the last seven days. It is an actual image that is dynamically created from a script I wrote.

image

When you add or delete the comments, the numbers automatically update.

Die Squatters Die

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you as I am currently selling the domain www.estrip.com. I would like to ask whether you would be interested in purchasing this in a quick sale.

The quality of this domain goes without saying, type in estrip and you already get 50,000 results (and the word strip gets over 201 million!), plus with the nature of your business it would be an appropriate and excellent investment as most good .com domains are unavailable.

I am open to offers, but serious ones only please, my starting price is 1000 GBP.

Please get in touch ASAP if you are interested as this is going to be a fast sale, and a good bargain im sure for whoever purchases!

We come up number one for estrip on both yahoo and google now. So go die you squatter scumbbag extortionist.

New Front Page

(e:kara) re-wrote the front page and had me add something that shows the latest comments with a link to who wrote them and what journal it came from. I think it's great. There is also the code to add an estrip button on your own site.

Safari Bug Squashed

Thanks (e:jenks) for mentioning the safari bug. The problem was blocking most of the other javascripts from working on safari and that is why the site appeared to not work. E.g you probably couldn't open your journal box, close your message window, etc.

Fuck you apple computer for not letting me redefine goto() without throwing a fatal error and fucking up the whole page unlike every other browser.

The estrip logo that will stay

Sorry it took me so long to publish this repsonse. I refused to publish it until I changed the site code to check for real (e:name) links before I wrote it because I didn't want (e:strip) to show up as a name link.

Besides being one of my bestest friends, (e:twisted,359) has donated the most money, time, and hardware than any other peep to this community. Not to mention that I generally value her opinion over all others because of her deepest understanding of the project from the hundreds of hours of dialogue we have had about it. In fact I would say that on many levels, the project would not have happend if it wasn't for her and her commitment to it's existance. In essense, (e:twisted), I love you!

Here is my deal with the colon. Like (e:matthew,717) I find that the colon is important in the name and the logo. One reason being that there are two commerical products that use estrip as a name. One is envirostrip and the other is some sort of medical imaging system. I suppose I should just trademark (e:strip).

Seeing as the site is not a commercial project I could care less if some people can't find it because they are too stupid to try googling with a colon. It's not like I will sell less widgets because of it. I like the colon as part of the design as it reflects the identity of the site as I intended it since march of 03. Everything that ever said (e:strip) had the colon. It is in fact how you guys link your journals together. Unfortunately, they do not allow colons in URLS.

People can find it by typing (e:strip), ((e:strip)), elmwoodstrip, or elmwood strip into yahoo or google. Soon it should come up under number one for estrip as well, it just takes some time for the robots to catch up with the changes.

Eliminating new peeps that are not capable of making the jump from the (e:strip) logo to estrip.org or elmwoodstrip.org might be to my advantage as I am the one who deals with all the people who need help figuring stuff out.

So this is the final logo. (e:matthew) approved. It provides the most space for the (e:strip) and is compliant with the way many of the old street signs were formatted in buffalo. It also makes it obvious that it is not estriporg as one one. I really liked the google it, but I removed it as I don't want to support a private corporation.

Design Choices for the Bumper Stickers

point your links to estrip
First thing first. If you have your own website or some other place where you post links, please make sure to point your links to estrip.org. The more people that points their links here, the faster we take over who ever estrip medical is in the google rankings.

bumper stickers
Okay, so here is the deal. Is it more important to have your URL in your bumper sticker or a small keyword people can type into google. If you go to google and type (e:strip) with the colon we come up right away so maybe that is best. Plus it adds the extra step of discovery for the people who type it in, making it a little more fun for them.

So which design should it be? My fav is the first one with the parathesis. Also if anyone know a local shop where we could get this done, I would much rather support local busines than order them on the internet.

Thank you to all the people who made generous donations to make this possible. A special thanks to (e:olemanrunin) who made the largest single donation we ever had at (e:strip).
