Image Library Beta - Check it Out

I have added the Image Library (beta) to your control panel. You can now view previously uploaded images and add them to new journals by simply clicking on the thumbnail image in your image library.

To use it, go to your journal and then click on the "Image Library (beta)" link on your control panel.

Check it out and if you have any questions email paul. When I get a change I will update it so you can delete images, as well.

At this point, it only works for images uploaded after March, 2004. For images uploaded previous to this time, you will have to wait for the update or email paul.

Currently, you can only use it to view images from your own journal. it does not yet work with the news journal.

New Spell Check Feature

I have added some spell check functions, which will check your journal entry for spelling errors.

You can use the spell checking functions on the site, pre and post journal publication. In order to use the spell check function on an unpublished journal, click on the spell check button in your journal entry box. This will bring what you have typed, up to that point, into a pop-up window for spelling correction.

image

The other way is to spell check a journal entry after it has been posted. In order to do this, click on the pen icon at the bottom of any of your journals. This will bring you to an updated update screen. It is updated to display your journal entry with media and links at the bottom, so you can see what it looks like while editing, without having to switch screen back to your journal! From here, simply click on the spell check button to spell check that journal entry.

Once you click on the spell check button using either method, a window will pop up with a spell checked version of your journal sans media and links. If you click on the yellow highlighted errors, it will pop up a window which first looks up the misspelled word on google. If no suggestion is found on google, the system searches locally for a similar word in the local dictionary.

You also have the option of adding your word to the custom dictionary. Please only add words that you feel really need to be in the dictionary, as they will show up in the dictionary for everyone else.

You can also access the spell checking functions of the site by clicking on the new spell check link on your control panel.

The Site Will Be Down Tonight for 1 hour

The site will be down tonight from 10-11PM EST. The ISP is doing some firewall upgrades. Sorry about the inconvenience. They really suck, there are is starting to be so much downtime, and they give me very little notice. Someday when, we have some sort of income source for the site, we can get a new server or move the supercomp to somewhere with a faster connection.

The News is for Everyone

Now anyone logged into the site can post to the news journal. Previously, only certain users had access to this journal. As requested by Rachel, I have moved the news journal (the former elmwood journal) to a more prominent location. This allow people to easily check out what is going on by clicking on the news link at the top.

It will also alert people to check for upcommming events or important site information when they see the news jorunal in the top ten list.

I would like to ask that the users please keep postings on this journal releveant to current events or site information. I will continue to use this journal to post information about updates to the site. For all other types of postings, please you your own journal.

I just asked Jeeves

I just asked Jeeves, "What is the elmwood strip?" and our site came up number three. We are moving to the top on every search engine. I guess the time has finally come.

I also wrote to Artvoice to ask if they could have either a link or an article/advertisement about us. It's hard to get things going without a budget, but one year after the inception, we are here still and stronger than ever.

If any of you have an ideas for advertising please contact paul.

Area musicians, in conjunction with the Buffalo/Niagara Committee to Elect John Kerry President and the national grassroots organization concertsforkerry.com, will be holding a benefit concert on Sunday June 6th from 1:00 PM until 10:00 PM at the Mohawk Place, downtown Buffalo's premier music club at 47 East Mohawk Street. All ticket proceeds from the event will go to help elect John Kerry President in what is sure to be one of the great musical events of the season.

Local bands and musicians scheduled to appear include The Alison Pipitone Band, Blood of Jupiter, Floozie, Girlpope, Tom Stahl and the Dangerfields, Michael Meldrum, Bob Farmer and friends, and a reunion of the Tails with special guests. Additional acts will be added to the event.

The Buffalo concert is being held in conjunction with concertsforkerry.com, a national grassroots organization that is promoting similar benefit concerts in New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, New Orleans, Los Angeles and elsewhere across the nation. Tickets cost just $10.00 and can be purchased pre-sale on the Internet at concertsforkerry.com or will be available at the door.

Google Searches Getting better

It really works, I typed in a journal entry a couple days ago that mentioned my name in it several tmes, and now it shows up number one under my name on google. Most of your jorunals already show up under your username. Try typing "your username elmwood strip" into google. You should come up now. I tested holly and matthew at least.
