Updated autosave code / comments update

I totally rewrote the autosave system. It is used to save your journal to your local system. Autosave is on by default. To turn it off uncheck the autosave box above your jorunal entry box.

SAVE
1. With autsave on, it saves you journal entry into a cookie, every 3 seconds.

2. It also autosaves when you leave the page no more warning, it just saves to be safe.

3. You can also hit the create savepoint button at any point to save to a cookie.



RESTORE SAVE
When there is a saved restore point, the restore savepoint button will get a red border. If you hit it, the old text is restored into your box over whatever is in there.

CLEAR SAVE
To remove a savepoint, click the clear savepoint button.

This should stop people from losing entries when they "accidentally" switch pages during writing or their browser quits.

Comments
I also updated the comments to show the 50 latest comments in the (more) link on the front page. When you click on the links on the (more) page they auto load the journals in the main window.

Treo 650 mobile phone with keyboard

I hate advertising for companies but I would love it if more people could use all the mobile features of estrip. While estrip WAP estrip.org/wap version works with just about every cell phone in existence, the regular mobile/dialup estrip.org/xhtml version is even better and works with about 80% of modern phones. People without web browsers on their phone can even send journals as email ot MMS. IF you have any questions please ask (e:paul).



But really the thing separating a phone digital reading phone from a nice mobile publishing device is the keyboard and the treo 650, although not the latest model, has one of those. I personally use the PPC 6700 which I think it is better, unfortunately it is really expensive. A treo 650 is only $199.00 with sprint right now. The phone was normally around $500 only a couple months ago.

Might be something to look into.

Update (more) comments

I updated the (more) comments system to behave more like the comments on the front page.



Clicking on the more link take syou here:



When you use the more comments link it interacts with the mobile xhtml version of the site, hopefully making more people aware that it exists and getting you familiar with the interface. For those of you on dialup or slow connections it is the premier way to interact with the site. You can always switch between the mobile and normal version by clicking on the red mobile/dialup link at the top of every journal in both modes.

Added commas, comments, deleted peeps

Total Views Approaches 3,000,000
Let's have a 3,000,000 journal viewing since 12/03 party. Seeing as I never paid attention to the total views stats before, i have no idea how fast this will happen. If you are logged in and viewing your own journal, it doesn't add to the views. So these are other people viewing your journals.

Bumper Stickers
The 300 magnetic bumper stickers shipped yesterday so they should be here some time next week.

Commas in Stats
I also added commas to all the statistic numbers in the data stripe at the top of the site. The numbers were getting unruly without them. Thanks to the PHP number_format() function

Comment Stats
Then I added the total number of comments to the front page, the total number of comments on eahc journal to the journal, and the total number of comments posted by each user.

Deleted Peeps
I also deleted a good 100 peeps tonight after ample warnign about not using their accounts ever. That frees up their usernames againa nd reduces the amount of crap I have to backup when I backup the server.

Google Maps Update

I changed it so that all map links automatically default to hyrbid satellite/street map view. You don't have to do anything to update your old map links.

Speaking of map links. Anyone post to remember buffalo

Artvoice Best of Buffalo

First of congratulations to buffalopundit for winning best blog. I appologize that (e:lilho) stared booing. Turns out she didn't even vote,lol.

I requested that no one vote for us as best blog being that we are a blogging community and not a blog. That put us in much steeper competition for best web site, which we also lost.

No matter what the party was excellent and the food was delicious. Escpecially the ribs from BW and the sushi from Tsunami.
