New formatting options

I just added a new option for
[link=http://www.google.com]Here is a link to google, even whole sentences can be links now.[/link]

I renders like this: Here is a link to google, even whole sentences can be links now.

I also made it so that the (e:name) links can now detect punctuation after them so no more extra space for links like (e:paul)'s journal

Old web link formatting works the same as before, simply type in the whole address and it becomes an address.

Artvoice Vote

omg, the artvoice survey is back up but all the answers are gone. I think everyone has to revote. Now it checks your IP as a method to stop you from voting twice. That really sucks for poor people like us who have 3 roomates on one computer network. I guess artvoice just assumes everyone can afford their own connection.

Something fun to play with

I took a break from writing to get some data. Here a made a little fun toy to play with

It turns each entry written by the user into a little red dot. If you roll over them it says the title and if you click it is a link to the print version of the entry.

You can also see them broken down by quantity by date. It is a great way to search the history of the site and for the authors, to see how much work they put in. I am grading my friendships in red dots now, lol.

It's more fun with firefox.

Sign in, sign up

I fixed both login box bugs during sign up and sign in. Now whenever you sign in from the front page, or confirm your email addr when signing up it takes you directly to your journal publish box. Hopefully, this will make it easier for people to publish.

I added some new keyboard shortcuts

They at least work in Firefox and IE 6. The rest of you with win 98 aol browser, I have no idea.

Here they are:

You can hit ctrl +m from any journal to be taken to your publish box.

Once at your publish box you can now style text similar to the way you do in word. Simply highlight the text and then hold down ctrl + the first lette rof the style name. The text then become wrapped in the style tag.,

e.g type a sentence, highlight a word you want to bol and hit ctrl +b on the keyboard. The text will then be designated as bold text.

This works with
bold = ctrl +b
underline = ctrl +u
italic = ctrl + i
strike = ctrl +s
quote = ctrl +q
highlight = ctrl +h

Multiple User Pic Manager

You can now upload, store and manage multiple userpics. To select the one you want as your default userpic, just click on it. When it turns red around the border you are set to go. You can use this same gallery to delete userpics and to add new ones. To delete a userpic, simply click on the radio button next to the userpic you want to delete and hit the delete button.

Uploading works the same as before. I am probably going to tie in the little image manipulation program from p:labs in the near future.

You can find this userpic gallery by clicking on your userpic on your profile. You can reach your profile, by clickling on your userpic on your journal.

Quick Overview Of Updates

I am going to be leaving for camping in tomorrow and just wanted to go over the updatees real quick before I go to bed.

1. The news journal is no longer a group journal. No one else was using it, and it just took longer for stuff to load, deciding if it was a group journal or not each time.

2. The user stats have been moved up the the red stripe at the top of the browser window. When you are on the home page it shows the site stats, when you are on a users journal, it shows the users stats. It is currently not compatible with fast mode. Fast mode still works, but the stats are not updated with each click. I wil fix that when I get back. In the meantime choose stats or fast mode.

3. The site web mail link is now in the link bar.

4. The site dynamically written site search poetry is now in the link bar.

5. The homepage has changed and will continue to change when I get back. Right now it is about positions we are looking to fill.

6. You can read a users profile or edit your own profile by clicking on your userpic. You can use you profile to updat your userpic and usersound.

7. I reduced the size of the contact icons under the userpics to the smaller size ones. The email envelope is now mailbox instead.

I know there were more things but I can't remember them now!

Caching for speed2

I am sure there is probably a bug in this somewhere, but as a spur of the moment thing I created a caching system from scratch that caches the journals until they are updated or commented on. This should make the site way faster, even without fast mode. But if you combine it with fast mode, it should be exponentially faster. In order to write on your journal, you must click on the typewriter in your control panel.

The calendar caches until someone adds an event as well. It should be quite spiffy. Tell all your friends. Lets get some new peeps.

Temperature Added to journals

When you write a journal, the local temperature is appended to the entry. You can see the temperature in the date string at the top of any new entry that you write.

New chat command update

I updated the chat commands so they should be faster, if you type help into the Chat box it lists the commands. I will add more soon. Right now the weathermon also reports weather everyday at noon to the chat, so that throughout the year we can see how it was everyday at noon on the site.
