This picks me up...
Year gone by feels like one long day
But I'm alive and I'm feelin' all right
Well I run that hard road outta heartbreak city
Built a roadside carnival out of hurt and self-pity
It was all wrong well now I'm moving on
Ain't no church bells ringing
Ain't no flags unfurled
It's just me and you and the love we're bringing
Into the real world
Into the real world
I built a shrine in my heart it wasn't pretty to see
Made out of fool's gold memory and tears cried
Now I'm headin' over the rise
I'm searchin' for one clear moment of love and truth
I still got a little faith
But what I need is some proof tonight
I'm lookin' for it in your eyes
Ain't no church bells ringing
Ain't no flags unfurled
Just me and you and the faith we're bringing
Into the real world
Into the real world
Well tonight I just wanna shout
I feel my soul waist deep and sinkin'
Into this black river of doubt
I just wanna rise and walk along the riverside
And when the morning comes baby I don't wanna hide
I'll stand right at your side with my arms open wide
Well tonight I just wanna shout
I feel my soul waist deep and sinkin'
Into this black river of doubt
I just wanna rise and walk along the riverside
'Til the morning comes
I'll stand right by your side
I wanna find some answers I wanna ask for some help
I'm tired of running scared
Baby let's get our bags packed
We'll take it here to hell and heaven and back
And if love is hopeless hopeless at best
Come on put on your party dress it's ours tonight
And we're goin' with the tumblin' dice
Ain't no church bells ringing
Ain't no flags unfurled
It's just me and you and the hope we're bringing
Into the real world
Well into the real world
Oh into the real world

I'm such a jerk!
I've been pillaging (e:Jenks) music link like one of the Capital One vikings and got reunited with a bunch of favorites including the new user sound, one of my favorite Clash tracks ever.
Need to get a haircut, but I'm not sure where to go. I used to go to Chic's on Utica but I think I was one of his last haircuts ever since the store shuttered quickly after that. Probably stagger to Supercuts or something.
FINALLY, got the new overlords to get all my paperwork filed with the new company. Got the 401 K (since I'm old) and the pay advance worked out, health care will get done shortly.
Been fun having time off. The youngin' and I have been to the races at Lancaster Speedway, the movies to see Barnyard, the monday night Bisons game with lots of swimming mixed. The grandparents step in for a few hours later today, but we still have mini-golf on the horizon and I think my son has his grandfather set to pillage Dave and Busters for a vacation finale. We started today with new school sneakers and lunch at the IHOP, sounds dorky but very satisfying.
Fun to not think about work.

It's the little things
"here, Dad" followed an outstetched hand.
In said hand was a still in the wrapper Superman action figure from his lunch, complete with flight sound effects. It's a beautiful thing. I walked around in the rain for a little bit with a goofy smile on my face.
Nicest thing to happen all week.

I think the real reason Condi hasn't called for an Cease fire in the Middle East is that the Bush Adminstration is letting the Israeli Army do their defacto dirty work.
______________
Donald Rumsfeld briefed the President this morning. He told Bush that 3 Brazilian solders were killed in Iraq.
To everyone's amazement, all the color drained from Bush's face, then he collapsed into his desk, head in hands, visibly shaken, almost in tears.
Finally, he composed himself and asked Rumsfeld, "Just exactly how

My new bosses didn't take questions at the big unveiling today. I made it on channel 4 in a crowd shot that I'm not going to keep. I felt bad for the suit wearers. I visited the Time Warner popsicile truck twice.
New position has me doing a lot of email repairing for my new department mates. I got vaca time coming up and I can't wait. Stuff will get serious the week after. That's fine. It just has me feeling like a bit of spare part which is taking a little getting used too.
But hope springs eternal -- My yahoo personals got answered three times today and none of them scared me.

Night and Day
I got to leave work early and promptly went to the pool and sank. Water was about 80 degrees. It was good and refreshing and I'm seriously considering going back. Any takers?
Work was a little weird. It's unusual to start the week as one company and become a completely different firm over night. Despite the often journaled weirdness, I work with some really cool folks That made it easier to do stupid things like hang banners and inflate balloons at 7AM.
The Time Warner balloons left my hands blue, like I strangled a smurf. It reminded me of when I worked at the Village Green Bookstore and nobody liked Sundays because we had to assemble the Sunday Times. That always made you feel like you were sorting coal. Never wear white while reading the times.
I caught myself on channel 4's news in one of the Time Warner crowd shots and I'm pretty sure I was melting. They fed us and we got the official tchotchkeys. I now have a TW chip clip for my trouble. It's a lot smaller than my Adelphia chip clip (I work in a silly industry). My chips will be trying to take over the pretzels.

Cleaning out one desk & filling another
I had to leave em for reasons passing understanding to take a different gig or be umemployed. It's felt like a non-event to everybody but me. I'm not sure what to expect out of any of this. Hell, it's not even clear what I doing for a living come Monday. Due to corporate H.R. being the hot bed of people who will talk even with they have nothing to say, it's not real clear if I have health care on Tuesday, if I can log into the new "time" coding system, or if I have a new company email address yet. I've struggled with trying to be classy about all of it. It felt very strange to mop up, clean off my former work space, and get dumped in an area with people who are intrigued at my presence as well as thinking I got demoted. Wish they weren't on to something. Next person who tells me I have to roll with the changes is going to get the shit kicked out of em. I miss my playmates already. I know they are down the hall, but as the department shrinks each is having to deliver more, especially with the new owners picking the unqualified son of a "friend." I guess it's corporate lonely. My new department speaks up when they want dirt on something else. Working with my ipod again, that's fun to look forward too.
I did my best to set up shop in my "new" confines, saying to myself that at least it will be finished soon. We've been talking about this for months so in a way, it's great to finally get it over with.
New desk looks okay, computer is a piece of shit, but at least I got a comfy chair. That's something.

Thursday Mental McNuggets
Started cleaning out my desk today for my next assignment. It's a little depressing. It feels a little weird to be sort of irrelevant all the sudden in the job you really liked while at the same time getting the hairy eyeball from the old krones in the room I'm moving too. One jabba like bundle of joy told me I had to bring her presents everyday. I asked in a voice loud enough for all to hear "Do I look like your peewhupped husband?" Even the witches next to her cracked up. I don't like copping attitude in a new spot right away but my new surroundings have my stationed pretty close to a gripe fest -- so I had to show that I wasn't there to be a punching bag. Mission accomplished on that count.
Not real satisfying. I took the high road with the young pup who's replacing me in my department and cracked a few jokes. I wrote in an earlier journal about he had no idea about the circumstances that he's walking into. The incoming higherarchy is setting him up for a fall. He's entry level qualified, but it's not entry level work.
Back to the square, post a few drinks at the buckin buffalo, I suprise myself. There were a number of folks, but I started to feel old so I headed home via spot which was peepless around 9:30. I'm waiting for a grande mocha shake when my daughter (the eldest) and a buddy come in. She comes over on the way to the bathroom and we checked weekend plans briefly and with cat like speed to inspire dads everywhere, I make sure she has money, receive my beverage and am out the door.
I see the Sabres are going to wear their old jerseys for 15 games in addition to 26 as the raging hairpieces. Larry Quinn is a wimp. He should realize that it isn't just the blue and gold that old time hockey fans are after, it was the complete package. If the new logo was taken from their current red jerseys and recolored blue and gold, nobody would have said boo.
But alas, the world would be so better off if people would just listen to me once in awhile.
