Biketober fest and the beer bike

On Wednesday, (e:terry) and I made it out to Go Bike's Biketober fest at the new Flying Bison brewery in Larkinville. We met up with the usual bike people - I also got to talk to two of the bike and ped engineers for the city. Apparently they had heard about my winter biking and were really interested in hiring me.

Outside, the new Buffalo beer bike was out giving rides. It's a lot like the ones in Portland and Germany - a driver serves drinks to ten or so people who pedal and ride the bike. The max speed is only 5 mph but it's so freaking awesome. Sadly they were done giving rides by the time we saw it.

Empty boxes

(e:terry) ordered his Chun-Li costume off party city's website. They thought this box was reasonable for a flat, unbreakable costume:

Cemetery bike ride

Tuesday was a super nice day and probably the last one for a while. So (e:Paul), (e:terry) and I cut out of work to fit in a bike ride. Fall color mode was full on.

Phipps Conservatory pt II

(e:paul) and I got to see the garden again, this time with (e:terry) and with a lot more in bloom! The sustainable building was done too - it didn't have much function but the net-zero energy usage is freaking awesome.

My absolute favorite is the orchid room. So many amazing smells, especially this one which smelled like white chocolate.

Hot Mass and Lucky's

After Tuneyards, we had the most ridiculous night. Booty abounded.

We started off at Luck'ys again which was cool, but not as packed at before. It still had the dive bar, dance-floor-is-gonna-cave feel that I wish Buffalo had.

On the way out, we passed this bail bonds place with an upstairs that (e:paul) and I had wondered about before - turns out it was a bathhouse with a huge rave going on underneath. It was called Hot Mass - Paul has already written about it but it was the one of the best parties I've ever been to (or smelled).

Outside the rave they were playing Judge Judy. Real strange.

tUnE-yArDs

I don't think I've ever heard such a crazy voice before. The show was at a giant old church complex called Mr. Small's fun house.

Everyone in the crowd got so pumped for their best and most popular song - Gangsta.

Brown sugar squash

(e:Paul) cooked up some squash tonight. It was amazing enough just cooked by itself but we put some brown sugar and butter on top. Yum.

Dehording for the party

We spent most of the day today cleaning for this weekend. I think we actually made progress on dehoarding - the back hall is finally clean. On the otherhand we disturbed so many scooters and spiders from their old homes - good thing you moved out yesterday (e:mike).

This back hall window has two different lock parts that don't match up. Jamming a blue cap in it seemed to fix it.

Dog days if Tihar

This weekend I dog sat Midnight for my parents. I really miss him sometimes, but even just seeing him I have to shower and change or else (e:paul) is allergic. :( Still my best bud. I probably was at my parent's for 10 hours this weekend, and walked him for 4 or 5.

image

It was also the day of Tihar, the Hindu dog festival. In Nepal, they celebrate with all dogs, even strays, by feeding them, making them flower necklaces and coloring their schnozzes with pigment. It's a holiday I could get on board with.
