New job (again)

On Thursday, I got offered a full time position as a programmer analyst at Roswell. It starts as soon as I'm done with my contract - I'm so pumped that I get to stick around.

The only down side is I won't be in the web development department with (e:Paul) anymore, I'll be on the clinical IT team. But maybe we can get find ways to pull projects together.

This week we also got to soft launch the appointment reminder system. Four patients have already signed up. I can't wait to make it even better.

Happy birthday dad

For my dad's birthday we went to Curly's to celebrate. We had the best waitress I think I've ever had.

We were singing happy birthday in this picture but my dad really wanted to text a picture of the cake to someone.

Kenmore Dryer repair

Last Saturday, the dryer stopped working. The heater still worked, but the drum itself didn't tumble even though you could hear the motor/blower going.

So on Friday I decided I was going to fix it. At first I tried taking off the back, but quickly realized you couldn't access the drum from there. It did give me a chance to clean it out though.

So I looked it up and found a guide for Kenmore 500 series dryers here . To get access to the drum you need to remove the lint trap, the two screws in the trap, and then slide and pop the top off. After that, there are two bolts holding the front panel on.

When I took it off, I found the drive belt on the drum was completely slack. So I took the drum out, and found the belt tensioner was on the ground and the belt was connected to nothing. So I cleaned out the machine, put the drum and tensioner in , and reconnected the belt, making sure it was on the wear line. It took about an hour, but the dryer definitely works.

Here is a diagram from the appliancerepair.net website:

I definitely feel like I could be an appliance repairman if I needed to.

Deep holes

The UB med school construction is in full swing. The foundation they've dug is the second deepest hole I've ever seen. It's going to straight to the Allen Street subway station - I'm guessing that's why.

They may be good at digging but not so much at spelling.

Little rock city

On Sunday we were going to go to hiking at Zoar, but we switched it up and went to Little Rock City. I had never been there before. The rocks were ridiculous to climb. I only fell once. I should have known better when (e:Terry) wasn't able to climb it.

Finding a way up was always easier than finding a way down. Sometimes we had to jump like flying squirrels to the next rock and hope we could get down there.

At the end of the day, we drove over to the loop at the end of Little Rock City Road. Here there were even bigger rocks, and these gaping chasms in the ground you could walk through. It was practically speulunking at this point. Unfortunately my phone died - but (e:Paul) got some pics.

Climbing between these two was the most terrifying I think. It was the only time I think I felt dizzy looking down.

This tree was huge, and had remnants of a ladder. Was it the world's best tree house at some point?

Another little red eff - we almost stepped on him

Afterwards, we headed out to Taj Grill to belatedly celebrate Terry's birthday with my parents.

Veggie stroganoff

Yesterday (e:terry) cooked up some amazing veggie stroganoff. It was so mushroomy and made with a vegetable bullion on garlic egg noodles. The sour cream probably cuts down on it being healthy but it tastes amazing.

Bike rides and fanny packs

Friday night we were going to go swim at the quarry, but (e:Paul) had a migraine and broken back. So while he rested up Terry and I went on a bike ride.

Later we stopped at Coles to hang out with Emily and Carrie, who's back for now.

Terry helped Emily's friend Annie develop her idea to bring fanny packs back with an artisan etsy style approach. It'll be called Annie's Fannies.

Impulse and dudes

Saturday night, (e:yesthatcasey) and Masumi came over to hang with us, (e:mike), and (e:libertad). We spent hours looking at Dudesnude and watching the most redonk videos.

Terry's throbbing neck

(e:Terry) was falling asleep on the couch yesterday and head in a weird position. It made the veins in his neck pulse in the craziest way. Maybe he just has a really strong heart. (e:Paul) took a video.

Mobile Containment Unit

I saw this in the hall way at work this morning. I have to hope its only a test and Ebola hasn't hit Buffalo.

Beides that I got to get up at 7 am today, and helped demo the appointment reminder system (e:Paul) and I have worked on to a bunch of doctors and directors today. They all seemed very happy with our work on it and I was able to answer any questions they had. It really felt awesome to have work that goes some where.
