Highland Park hike

We did a little less lounging on Sunday and explored (e:uchina)'s neighborhood (I think it's called Highland Park). She has hills near her and I was so happy to climb them.

The temperature was warm. I wish I had brought shorts.
image
We stopped at a urban yuppie mall for egg sandwiches. There were a lot of soccer moms.
image
We took a few dog quizzes while walking around. It turns out (e:uchina) is a terrier/dachshund depending on who you ask.
image
Up at the top of another hill is the Rochester reservoir called Hemlock lake. Water from Hemlock lake flows down to this hill in a creek and is pumped up here. They have a fancy marble pump house and a nice path around the whole lake.
image

Everyone was on the track when we were walking. A man flying a drone way better than we ever could, a kid possibly spreading ashes on the hill (?! thankfully not in the water, gross), all the dogs you would ever want to spot
image

image
The hill has a good view. I wish Buffalo had a steep elevation change somewhere

360 foto for your VR viewing. I really want to get a 360 javascript viewer on (e:strip).

While we were walking around we noticed all these slides on the ground. At first I thought they were going to be someone's photos but it turned out they were old slides with photos of bacteria and a bunch of presentation text. The best was when (e:paul) found one with e. coli stuck in a pile of dog poop D: ::blech::.
Why did they end up next to a public trash can?

A secret swing. There was also secret mountain bike trails/ski paths

Crafts at e:uchina's

Saturday was a lot of crafts and lounging at (e:uchina)'s.

We went out to brunch and (e:terry) had a giant fried french toast. I had a tofu scramble.

While we were there I tried my hand at crocheting. I am not very good at keeping my hooked holes tight.
image

Later back at the apartment, we drew a little bit. Masumi made valentine's, Paul made his trippy animals, and I drew an otter. Sometimes I wish I could draw better, but it's low on my list of things to practice. I try to follow those "sketch a circle, and another circle etc" tutorials - is that how people actually draw animals?

This lovely work of art was made by (e:uchina) at a Japanese restaurant near her house. Beautiful! I feel like I'm being swept away at some fancy ball(s).

Sole Rehab

Friday night we headed up to Rochester to go to our friend Tom's dj thing at this bar called Skylark lounge. We met up with Liz and (e:uchina) at her apartment.

The music was pretty good for house music but I think the best part about the bar was meeting and talking to all the Rochester gays. I think most of the bar was gay.
image

image

They also had a "Lord of the Rings" pinball machine. Here's Masumi and (e:terry) getting balls right in the flaming eye hole.
image

image

The night wrapped up at Tom and Derrick's awesome house a short walk away from (e:uchina)'s aparment. We frolicked around until 6 am with all sorts of drunken craziness.

Cross Country skiing

The next day (e:terry) and I went cross country skiing with (e:holly) and Brian. (e:paul) nursed his broken pinky toe at home (a casualty of the living room UFC tournament).

image

We went down to Byrnecliff Resort out past Wales. It was Brian's first time so we tried to stick to the easy trails - but at one point, a wrong turn had us going down hairpin curve on the hardest trail, which had little snow. It was fun but even (e:terry) fell the whole way down.

I got my skiing bearings by the end - we finished the afternoon with the a medium trail called Rusty Nail. Too bad we couldn't do the steep downhill path called powerline - but maybe another time when there's more snow. I like the isolation of Alleghany better but this is less than half the distance.

On the way home, we stopped to eat in East Aurora at a sandwich shop, before eating a cupcake next door. The food was good - but something drives me nuts about that town. It's all too quaint and suburban yuppie for me - like if you extracted only the expensive food and knicknacks off of Elmwood and dropped it in a place where everyone must drive.

Later we got home and relaxed a little bit. - then continuing on our consumption binge via another (e:paul) birthday dinner. This time it was with my parents and Mary. Birthdays now extend to three days apparently ;).

image

They came over after dinner for dessert, and we finally showed them around the upstairs of the house. I

Surprise! Party!

So (e:paul) wanted to have a surprise party. But of course you can't expect that - so we did absolutely nothing on his actual birthday. The next day, we had (e:mike) take him to the mall (it would be suspicious if (e:terry) or I took him, I swear) while we prepared an afternoon surprise party - it started at 3 and went into the next day.

A lot of people showed up and it was a drunky awesome time. (e:libertad) and (e:mike) added to the crunk level with St. Germaine (?) cupcakes, which tasted amazing.

A lot of kitchen cramming. Here's mike and dave taking the gay finger test. Sorry, Mike - Dave is straight.

The microwave has some sass to it

I would say a good hour of the party went from attempted spankings on Paul to a full UFC-style tournament. I pinned Paul, got pulled off by (e:terry), and then had to face (e:yesthatcasey) and Troy to make it ridiculous. I actually like grappling but this was a lot for one party. Look at this beautiful bruise I won as a consolation prize.

Hope you were surprised Paul!

Happy birthday Paolo

We've celebrated (e:paul)'s 39th trip around the sun today. He worked during the day of course, but we took him to his facorite restaurant Sato for lunch with (e:Heidi) and (e:Dianne). We even drove ?.

Then went to Tony and Maria's shortly after for round two. Cheesy lasagna, artichoke and mushrooms, a million desserts.

I'm so stuffed right now I want to lay down on the floor like (e:Mike) is. Good thing because Paul got an electronic scale with a body fat measurement.

Right now we're all watching cable about a show of people watching other TV shows.

Here's to another year amazing Paul! <3 you

I'm a stripper

It finally snowed on Sunday. I don't think it ever felt like winter until now. It really all came down in only a few hours - so I took a walk with (e:terry) when he went to go work and got to play in it for a bit.

image

image

image

When I got back, (e:paul) helped me continue stripping the upstairs back hall with the steamer. I worked about 5 hours on one side of the hall with the steamer - what a pain in the ass. If it wasn't for the embodied energy in this plaster I'd say rip it out, replace the electrical and put up dry wall. It would have taken less time, and we wouldn't have a patchy, delaminated plaster wall anymore.

I have seen lots of sites that show fixing delamination and cracks with plaster buttons and adhesive. Then you have to learn how to do a good job mudding it. If I had more time I'd be interested in learning but this has taken two months to get back to to begin with.

Dinner at Mike and Dave's

Saturday has the obligatory farmers market pictures - all these jona gold apples for $8, onions and cabbage heads for $2 each, and a huge delicious bag of sweet winter carrots for $4.

image

image

Later we headed over to a family dinner at (e:mike) and (e:libertad)'s with (e:paul)'s family including (e:czarkasm). Somehow I only got a picture of the food but it was a good time. Everyone took a shot at (e:libertad)'s wooden "nose in the hole" game.

B-Robb the Juggler

Last Wednesday my old fraternity brother Brian passed through town on his was to a juggling convention in Quebec. Originally he and his friends were supposed to stay here but it turned into just a pit stop - so I zoomed on my bike over to see him at the mythical Wegman's liquor store.

image

He started juggling vodka bottles while balancing a wine bottle on his nose. I was so suprised I didn't even take a picture and I'm pretty sure the workers were about to need a change of pants.

I don't think I really have talked to him since school almost three years ago (or really anyone else for that matter). In a sense it's kind of shitty that we could connect and don't, but I agree with Paul when he says it's nice to catch up with someone and not already know everything they've been up to.

He's applying to ChemE PhD programs in Switzerland. Lucky!

Hundchen the wargon

(e:terry) got me the trial of World of Warcraft, so I've been nerding out playing with him every once in a while. My character's name is Hundchen the wargon, a fierce fuzzball who looks pretty sweet flying on this bird.
image
He's level 21 which is pretty weak ass as far as I understand.

I don't like reading the quests or running around. I'd rather be running outside in the snow. But I played with him and (e:flacidness) tonight doing a dungeon and a battleground and had some fun.

I really think it would be better if they took a Sims/pet simulator approach and let you do a lot more with your pets, had a house etc. I guess then it would be second life - but for me, the cuter the better.

The bad part is the whole time I feel bad I'm not programming.
