Allentown's garbage garden

Maybe if we plant enough in it, it'll start reproducing enough trash to reforest Buffalo.

The blind store

At work there is a convenience store in the building next door. It's manned by a guy who is completely blind.

I went with Paul yesterday and today for snacks. He knows (or at least I think he does) every price on every item in the store, but you have to tell him what you are buying. You also have to tell him how much money you give him which seems like a gaping hole for scammers, which he puts into a talking cash register.

I want to ask him how he ended up this job but that's probably not PC. Its so strange if its a program match up the visually impaired as cashiers.

Semis

The competition kind.

As of yesterday, the 43 North submission ("Docugen") that (e:terry), (e:heidi), (e:yesthatcasey), (e:paul) and I are on together is a semifinalist.

We started with 6,932 applications from 96 countries and all 50 U.S. states.
That got boiled down to 2,603 qualified submissions.
Now, we're excited to announce our 113 semifinalists!

There's a single million buck prize, 6 $500,000 and 4 $250,000. And one of them has to go to a Buffalo idea, which there are about 30 of. It definitely could happen. It's so freaking awesome I can't believe it.

The downside is the second application is due August 15th, and the presentations would be in October. It's summer and we're all supes busy. But how can you pass this opportunity up?

Even if we don't win I think that it made it to the top 100 is a pretty good indication it's a viable idea. Look at us, all entrepreneurial and shiz.

Who wears short shorts?

After the taste of Buffalo, (e:Paul) got to show off his new Provincetown shorts.

It was a really amazing day for biking over for swimming. The water has warmed up a lot and is so clean compared to the lake. You're now allowed to swim until 9. I'm really surprised its not more popular.

We may have found a even more deserted quarry to swim in

Taste of Buffalo

The taste of Buffalo was delicious as usual. Some of the things I tasted a paneer zucchini kebab from an all white Indian restaurant, a strawberry crepe from Orazio's, a mushroom Gorgonzola cheese risotto ball from Bambino and a kale salad from Merge. I felt full but not as full as the meat eaters did. (E:yesthatcasey) wanted to be rolled home. Paul got three servings of short ribs. We all got plenty of samples.

I didn't manage to get pictures of the food somehow but I did get a glimpse of a ginger mormon.

Brofest at Willow Creek Winery

So (e:yesthatcasey) came with us down to the Electronic Odyssey music festival at Willow Creek Winery. It was supposed to be an overnight EDM event but ended up being a terrible jam band/hip hop remix event. It was so bad it makes me think there are no good dance events around. I'd definitely never come back here again.

(e:paul) and I did get about an hour of good dancing in. And we had some delicious greasy food. We played a lot of glow Frisbee. But the best part was that it was a good place to observe bro culture. I don't think I've ever hears so many unironic "bros" before. There was a lot of bromance going on too. All morning we got to hear about how one bro snuck in a tent and stole another bro's socks.

Dead Lake

We're down in Silver Creek for the Willow Creek music festival. We thought maybe we could go swim in the lake but it turned out to be literally brown with sewage. Not to mention the giant rotting catfish in the sand.

Its so fucking gross that with the amount of money in this country we don't even try to keep our water clean. for example, buffalo's sewer control program is only going to handle 70 percent of sewage overflows, at a cost of $380 million by 2034. We really can't dedicate any more resources to that? The US can spend hundreds of billions on the military and tens of billions on arming other countries,http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_foreign_aid ($3 billion in military aid to Israel) but there is only $19 million a year for Buffalo to stop dumping literal shit in our water.

Farmers Market

The farmers market was so good today. So many berries and cherries were ready. The green beans looked amazing too, I can't remember having such fresh ones in a long time.

We even got cheese curds from the hot goat man.

Block Club Secrets

After the Unconventional Measurements show we headed over to block club. The dancing was fun, and the secret theme was awesome. (E:Paul) and I wrote not-so-secret secrets in German on the typewriter. We met up with Kerry, Andrew who I used to row with in high school and a Emma from gobike.

(E:Paul) had a less fun time getting stuck in kreiswichsen conversations outside. Less talking more dancing.

Afterwards Terry and I went to the shit mansion, but he didn't last too much longer. We got some Lloyd's nachoes and headed home.

Unconventional measurements

(e:Paul) (e:Terry) (e:yesthatcasey) and I missed The Buffalo bike party ride, but we were able to stop by dreamland for unconventional measurements. Mickey had built an amazing minecraft model of downtown buffalo on an Xbox (without scripting). He called it 'Views of Buffalo' I think. It included a Byron Brown sphinx complete with a cart ride through his butt.

I am not an arty person but computer art and data is something I can get into. Unfortunately some of these charts made no sense. I guess I am not an artist though because I couldn't get a clear picture.
