Buffalo's World Naked Bike Ride

Singlehandedly the best bike ride of my life - dream accomplished (e:joe,58931) I could not believe how well it went. By Matt's count from a youtube video, there were at least 300 riders. Zero harrasment, from cops, riders, or bystanders. And we got our message across. Seems like even the people who drove to the ride had such a good time, I'd like to think they'll be more sold on bikes next time they leave the house - (e:uchina) ;)!

Nothing feels freer than riding around your city, down Elmwood, down Bidwell, down Main giving the finger to the Delta Sonic monster, naked as the day you were born.

The afterparty(ies) were pretty good too. Much props to Handlebar for holding the unofficial one and letting us go down to our underwear. Even better was the sequel at our house after. May be the only time I've had a cop tell a very silly (e:uchina) and I that we can't be naked on our own porch.

Heads up, lots of junk below if you're not down for that.

I've tried to gather up some pictures - a lot of them I pulled from the facebook event. I didn't take many since we decided to discourage it for comfort reasons the first year. Obviously we're all there to show what we've got, so I think next year it'll be okay.

Thanks to everyone who came, see you next year! I know I can't wait.

Popular Basra

After the art festival, I decided I'd give Basra an adventure to see the rest of the world (or at least the front lawn). Turns out he's popular. Everyone wanted to stop by and see him and ask questions about our "snapping turtle". Maybe we can charge admission and pay for his ticket to the desert.

Turns out the taste of freedom is addictive because when we were back inside, he climbed over his board and back down the driveway. We only noticed when there was shouting outside and (e:keith) and rode up and saw him.

Allentown Fried Dough festival

The Allentown Art festival isn't really my thing, I hate knick knacks. I do like the smell of fried dough though and it manages to waft all the way around Allentown. (e:paul) got his Italian snausage and came up with a fried dough wrapped version stuffed with cheese.

Dreamland had their own art festival going on with a bunch of pillows and cute stuffed things.

It was nice to just sit on the corner in the shade and watch people go by.

I hate the Buffalo Preservation board

I hate the Buffalo Preservation Board. I hope a historic roof falls on the whole board. Especially Tim Tielman.

Some (3 of 20) of our solar panels were denied by them last Thursday. I have so much to write about it I don't even know where to start, so I'll have to flesh it out later, including the recording I took.

First Square of the summer

Already! Robert Delong was pretty good, Arkells, not so much. Blue is now $5! We saw Kevin for the first time in over a year.

I know it hasn't been the square forever now but it's always going to be one of those things people do just like old people who refer to Gold Circle and AM&A's.

Buffalo World Naked Bike Ride tonight!

Tonight is the night! Buffalo's first World Naked Bike Ride, and the weather is looking good. We are up to over 1000 attendees between the two facebook events. Come join us in a body-positive protest against the aggressive, fossil-fueled car culture and consumerism that cyclists face every day they ride.

Come as bare as your dare (body paint encouraged). We cannot guarantee any interactions with the police, but hopefully there will be safety numbers tonight.

image

Where/when: Starting at 7pm, you can meet us at Sisti Park to get the official starting point for the bike ride. You MUST have human powered transportation or you will not be given directions. This is a protest about bikes and our rights.

No drugs, alcohol, OR photos on the ride. We need this to be a safe ride for everyone involved. There's plenty of people who would love an excuse to shut down the ride - don't give them one.

Expect that the full route will last around 7 miles.

Afterparty: The unofficial afterparty will take place at the end of the ride, at Handlebar (149 Swan Street).
Although you can go down to your underwear at Handlebar, you MUST have yourself covered as they will be serving food.

For the voyeurs:
if you want to watch and not participate in the ride the best places to see the ride is at Bidwell Park around 8:20-8:40 or Lafayette square around 9-9:15.

Rules:

- Celebrating freedom from oil and the beauty of people!
Less gas more ass! Burn fat not oil! Nude not crude!

- DRUGS | BOOZE = arrest.

- Sometimes bystanders get grabby :(
SHY? Stay towards center, out of reach.
CHIVALROUS? Guard our flanks.

- YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE!
Be prepared, stay alert, take care, help others.

- Obey police and thank them for their help.
Goodies may target ticketing. Bare at your risk.

- PARTICIPANTS must utilize Person-Powered Wheels

- NO PHOTOS in our before/after space (xcpt auth'd)
Assume that you will be photographed on ride.

- Arrive CLOTHED&SHOED and carry weather options.
NO GLASS! RECYCLE cans. Bring refillables.

LEAVE NO TRACE!!! PICK IT UP and PACK IT OUT!!!

HAVE THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE!!!

Buffalo's First World Naked Bike Ride

I've been helping to plan the first annual World Naked Bike ride with the help of two friends, Bike Alex and Matt. I wish I posted here first but I've been a terrible (e:strip) per.

image

We posted it the as a private event two weeks ago. This week we posted it on facebook as a public event. In less than three days, we have over 775 attendees on facebook. I got calls from WBEN (no thanks), we were on Buffalo Rising Buffalo News
Channel 4 and Channel 7 - it's been absolutely insane. Who would have thought how popular this was going to be? I even got a call from my mom asking me not to be naked.

Time: 7:00pm. Ride should commence at 8.

Location: Checkpoint will be announced today. You can find it either here or on the facebook event here. We're hoping to limit spectators and harrassment at the start by giving the start point at the time of the event.

Why: The whole point of this ride is to protest against our society's addiction and dependence on oil, life-destroying cars and aggressive consumerism against human powered transportation and community. The nudity is to draw attention to cyclists and pedestrian vulnerability to motorized transportation. Didn't see us before? Now you do.

Wear: Bare as much as you dare. I'm planning on at least some body paint and likely (e:paul)'s speedo shorts.

There may be an unofficial afterparty we are planning as well ;)
