Icy walk at Times Beach

It looked so nice outside today I had to get out of the house. (e:paul) called it to (e:terry) when they got their hair cut.

Terry's leg wasn't the best so just Paul and I went, but not before they almost broke each other. We drove down to Times Beach to walk on the ice. It seemed pretty solid, although we didn't go too far. The sun was redonk bright and even the lake was covered in snow. (e:paul) wasnt used to the wind so we moved over to Tiftt for a hike.

I can't wait until its warm.

On the way back we stopped to get things for (e:czarkasm)'s party. The Elmwood liquor store had this picture of Nicki Minaj that was super whitewashed. It was so weird.

Valentine's Day

l agree with (e:Terry) that Valentine's is just capitalist commercial garbage, allegedly for some dead Christian. But I've never gotten to do Valentines before. Last year I ate two bags of candy hearts with Sarah and celebrating with clearance candy.

This year there was still lots of candy, but with the two best guys I know. My mom even brought us over a heart shaped pizza. If thats Valentine's I'm alright with that.

Programming dirt

A while back I wanted a smartphone, and Microsoft was handing out Windows Phones to anyone developed an app for them. So I banged out an app called Soil Sort that classifies soils based on sieve test particle size. It tells you some general properties of the soil like strength, cohesion blah blah. My roommate Sarah always called me a dirt nerd because of it.

Anyway, it had been downloaded 448 times, but I never got any feedback. The other day I got an email from some Nigerian engineer thanking me for writing it.

Thanks a lot for this wonderful program I love it GOD bless you for taken out time calculations easy for designers let us have more of unified systems and way of alternating the % retained method

It's an awesome feeling to hear that someone actually used something I made. It motivates me to want to program more. I'm still learning tons about web development and PHP from (e:paul), so hopefully I can produce useful tools soon.

Restlessness

I've been feeling pretty restless lately. I'm not sure if its because of work, that I want it to be warm or maybe a combination. I have a bunch of projects that I'd like to do at home but its hard to even do them because being cooped up drives me crazy.

There are these ridiculous ice tunnels in Crystal Beach that have popped up, apparently it's a freak occurance from the lake ice and wind. The other day I was wishing I could just bike across the lake on the ice to Canada or something. In a few months we'll be riding over the bridge to Windmill Point anyway!

(e:paul) is going to Florida for a conference at the end of the month. I'm jealous. Too bad (e:terry) and I couldn't go with him.

Shake it don't brake it

Last night (e:terry) and I went with (e:yesthatcasey) to GO Bikes Valentine event at Essex. Not really sure what the point was but the Rusty Chain was free for members so that was awesome.

We ran into Dana there and ended up having a big debate on GMOs and food. Casey asked me if I would eat an animal that just died if it wasn't raised or killed for humans to eat. I feel like logically I should because that takes away the environmental and ethical problems, but that means I'd eat roadkill. They do have recipes .

Ironically we drove there because of Terry's bum knee. So embarassing, I'll never be cyclist of the month at this rate!

Paul's Mom's Birthday

So for her birthday, we went with (e:Mike) and (e:libertas) to Hutch's. It was crazy good food. I got the poblano pepper which was amazing and vegetarian, and even the mixed green salad was good.

After we went to Mike and Dave's for dessert. I ate way too much sponge candy and caramel bark. We heard from Paul's Dad what happens when you're in the first division, and that Paul was either a really terrible or really good paper boy.

Wish I took pictures.

Erica rocking it and 24 Hours of Happy

(e:czarkasm) sang at Nietzsche's open mic night again. Even with the burps, definitely thought she was the best we heard there. Unfortunately we missed the throat singer but a guy did a poem that was pretty decent.

(e:paul) and I think (e:terry) should go up and sing sometime, he's so good at singing.

After we got back Terry and I danced in the living room to an hour of Pharrell's Happy. It has a 24 hour music video online here . Surprisingly it didn't get annoying to me but I'm pretty sure it was to Paul, lol.

Turkish Rice Pudding

The Turkish girls (e:paul) and I talked to on omegle recommended we make Turkish rice pudding, which is rice pudding with a broiled egg on top. On Sunday I made it using this recipe . We asked them about making it with chocolate but the Turks thought this would be sick. I thought it sounded good.

It didn't taste very good at first, but it became much better eaten chilled yesterday. The broiled egg yolk was a weird touch that actually tasted pretty good with the creamy pudding. I used tapioca flour as a thickener so it tasted like tapioca pudding.

Shopping Sunday

On Sunday (e:paul), (e:terry) and I went shoppinng pretty much everywhere. We went to Feel Rite, Pet Supplies Plus, my parents house, Trader Joe's, the Indian and Chinese groceries on Sheridan and then Anderson's with my family for 96 cent cones. I got the Greek yogurt custard. It reminded me of the sweet cream ice cream I got for Paul's cake last month.
I was also so suprised Terry didn't die because he hates grocery shopping and his knee still hurt.

When we got back home Paul made the giant artichokes, Terry made an amazing barley vegetable soup and I made Turkish Rice Pudding. I was food babying so hard.

Deutsch Omegle

In addition to the Flappy Birds fiasco, I've been stuck in 2009 and chatting on Omegle to practice German. (e:Paul) and I spent probably 7 hours this weekend looking for Deutschers to chat with. It's really good practice because Duolingo doesn't really have much of a verbal component.

We spent 3 hours talking to these drunk Turkish girls. Apparently I've aged poorly because they thought Paul was 25 and I was 30. We exchanged Whatsapp and snapchats and now we have to make a Turkish baked rice pudding called f?r?n sütlaç.

image

We also talked with a weird Russian boy who apparently was recording his sister having sex. He thought Paul was 24 and I was 26. Yeah I thought we were going to get arrested for that one.

Last person we talked to was to some Austrian kid. He was super impressed with Paul's German, especially when he pronounced these two redonk German words.
