Throwback Thursday

Yesterday I was listening to Blümchen (die beste Künstler) with (e:paul) and was reading this post that (e:terry,35355) wrote about loving her back in 2003.

(just listen to her sing about verrückte jungs - crazy boys. she's amazing, 90's, and she'll earworm you forever)

I read a couple of his other posts and they were redonk. And the other day when (e:Mike) was over we were reading some of (e:paul)'s posts from a less bougie time (e:paul,32125).

It made me think it's pretty awesome that a journal like estrip lets you go back and see what you or someone else was like at different points in their life. Even boring shiz about food or being bored at some bar somehow ends up being fun to read. It's like a record of Buffalo - I know I always came across estrip posts on google before I even knew anyone on it. Emily's brother would see what Paul said about a restaurant before he went there. There's so much written on estrip about Buffalo that otherwise would fall to the wayside.

Seems like there are less people that post now than before. I'm interested in knowing what makes people post/not post and what would change that. Maybe we could chalk advertise again like we tried (e:joe,58289) when it doesn't rain the same afternoon. I should try to get my friends to sign up now that facebook is over.

Car share

I fucking hate having a car. I know that sounds like a garbage first world problem, but I do.

I just worked it out today that if I didn't have this lease and was able to be in the car share, I would have only spent $200 (counting the days I actually needed to drive for work) this year instead of $600, even more with the other months I took over the lease. And this is in the winter with the few times I actually had to drive. I could have probably taken transit on almost every day I drove anyway.

I barely ever drive it and still pay for it on the off chance I need it. When I get rid of this car I am going to take the money I save and do something fun with it, besides paying the Sallie Mae the bloodsucker (what could be better?).

Too bad I can't car share yet, I've had a license for less than the two years you need. Has anyone had experience with Buffalo Car Share?

Snow Day again

I can't believe I have another snow day. It wasn't that bad when I left this morning, but by the time I rode down to Delaware and Tupper, I got a call from work saying not to bother coming in since the office was closing at 12. So I went back home to sleep in. On the way home a truck driver started honking at me asking "What the fuck are you doing?" referring to my bike.

Now it's time for working from home (or programming and Deutsch). I'd still much rather have it be spring and be stuck at work than have another freaking foot and a half of snow.

Supermarket Sweep

After the hike (e:paul) and I went shopping everywhere - Wegmans, Target and the coop. At Target we noticed they were clearing out the best granola ever - the coconut macroon kind - for only $2.50. So we cleared them out. There almost wasnt enough room to store them all at home.

Tifft Hike

On Sunday we went for a walk out on the ice. Well, we were going to, but as soon as we got out on the ice at Times Beach we heard cracking and booked it back to land.

Tifft was a much better and less windy option anyway.

We found this shell of a water tank along the rail tracks. I think it was a water tank, there were four old piles in the ground on the inside. They took off the roof at some point so all that was left was the concrete shell.

A diode on the train track, for switching maybe? Paul said it looked like an explosive

What are these metal baskets hanging in the trees? Artificial nests?

Sleep Paralysis

While I was napping on Saturday I had the most Inception like dream I've ever had.

I dreamt that (e:paul) and (e:terry) and I went up to the old North Park library for a party. We got there, and Paul left to go pick someone up. Terry and I were talking sitting down talking to this couple, but I couldn't turn and look at them because Terry was holding on to me via meine schlange. I wanted to tell him to let go, but it just made me wake up (or at least I thought). I started to tell Emily (who was in our bedroom?) to tell Terry to let go again, since he was still holding on, but I couldn't form any words. While this was happening my eyes opened for real, and I could see Terry, who was holding on for reals. I tried to tell him to wake me up but I couldn't talk, move, or even breath. Apparently I really was just laughing in real life, which makes me think I was having sleep paralysis.

Basically scientists think it's the boundary between being awake and REM sleep. Lack of sleep is considered a cause, which definitely could have been after the rave. The brain gets out of control sometimes.

Lazy Saturday

After the rave on Saturday (e:joe,58770), we had an absolutely lazy Saturday. (e:terry), (e:paul) and I got up at noon, went to eat at West Side Bazaar (e:joe,58771). After Paul and I ended up napping (I think I was starting to get sick too).

Of course we were hungry again so Paul and I were going to get pasta from the coop. Paul didn't want to walk, so we nixed that and ended up driving to Curly's with (e:mike). The chips were redonk but we demolished them.

We hung out with Mike at home after dinner while he told us about all the important acronyms he uses for work, and the importance of cultural sensitivity. After he left we watched Teen Wolf and went to bed.

I felt kind of bad having such a lazy day of eating/sleeping/bed/repeat but I guess Paul and Terry are right when they say you don't always have to be accomplishing something.

Here today, gone tomorrow

They started to take down the Delaware Court Building on Chippewa the other day. Its so fucking stupid that we are giving money to Uniland and Delaware North to take down a perfectly good building when we have so many empty lots downtown, especially to just shuffle the deck with a new glass box.

West Side Bazaar

After strugglebussing it out of bed this afternoon (oops), (e:paul), (e:terry) and I decided to go to the West Side Bazaar. I've been wanting to go there since I heard about it when Paul and Terry went there. So much good food for cheap.

We ran into (e:Heidi) and (e:dianne) who were there for international women's day. terry and I split the Ethiopian vegetable platter. We also got samosas, baklava and a bubble tea with no bubbles. I wish they didn't use Styrofoam plates though.

Hack Rave at Love

Last night (e:paul) (e:terry) and I went with (e:yesthatcasey) and (e:flacidness) out to Love Nightclub in Rochester for a rave. It was ridiculously good hardcore and happy hardcore music by this guy named Velociraptor. The setup was decent and there was plenty of room to dance. We danced for over 3 hours and didn't get to bed until about 5.

I dressed up in Paul's old kikwear pants and TK wore Terry's. Paul got them thrifting at some point, the label said 91 on them. Weird to think about.
