Night rides

(e:paul) and I have been taking a lot of slow rides at night lately. It's usually a perfect temperature. No one is on the road. And at Paul's preferred pace we could ride forever, chilling and talking brogramming.

image
On these rides he discovered maple water - water tapped out of maple trees with a slightly sweet taste. How boug!

Down at canalside they have these weird glowy men. It's cool how many people just end up hanging out there at night. How many places in Buffalo are almost occupied 24 hours a day now?

Hike at zoar

(e:paul) and I headed down on Sunday to hike at Zoar. The weather was freaking perfect.

We walked down and swam a bit in the creek. The water was ridiculously high - not sure if it rained or was the snow melt still. On the way back from swimming past the flats we couldn't even walk along the creek back to climb up at point peter.

Instead, we went on this crazy non-path through the woods. I had no idea where we were going but we were hoping to find the trail. The sun was going down and the mosquitos were out.

The creepiest part was where we found two other car wrecks in the woods. Next to them were purses and shows. Real weird.

Finally we got to one of the brooks that flows over the main trail. We were able to climb right up and ended right near the parking lot.

We thought this was an emerald ash borer. I squished him. Turns out he's just a native six spotted tiger beetle. Sorry guy :(
On the plus side Paul took a gypsy moth nest and sank it in the river, mafia style.

There weren't many people down in the flats. Just one cruiser, a couple of bros, and us.

Heidi and Dianne's bachelorette party

we had (e:Heidi) and (e:dianne)'s bachelorette party at our house last week. I didn't manage to get many pictures but it was an awesome time. It seemed like everyone stopped by especially when Dana was playing.

(e:terry) passed out early and got some pretty braids from Kallie. (e:paul) and I made it out a little longer with (e:flacidness), (e:Robert) and (e:xandra).

The scrap yard

All this embodied energy, bought, left rust and scrapped for some new junk.

At least it's not in a landfill?

Show house

We went to the show house last Friday with Paul's mom. I'm glad we visited with her but the house itself is not my thing.

The house is so ridiculously big. I know we lived in an oversized mansion so its hard to talk ((e:yesthatcasey) is moving in so I can dump a little guilt) but this is on a mega scale. It was also filled with a lot of fancy useless knick knacks and decorations that I'm sure cost a metric assload. I am all about making these mansions size multifamily. The weirdest part about the whole thing is that its done by a whole bunch of dofferent designers and you can't take pictures. wouldn't you want to get free advertising? seems backwards.

The squished roadkill out front that (e:paul) wrote about provides good contrast.

Bike smut in Buffalo

Last week as part of Buffalo Bike Month, we went to Bike Smut, a bike porn/art show at Hot Mama's Canteen. (e:Heidi), (e:Dianne), (e:yesthatcasey), (e:robert) - everyone was there.

It combined two of my favorite things, bikes and porn. Its definitely my favorite art piece ever. I don't think I've ever watched porn in a collective experience like that. There was every type of porn involved, gay, straight and even literal sex with bikes (like penis in the moving spokes). Crazy.

The host of the show was so jazzed about it too, he even got everyone to sing a rousing song about their "bikesexual feeling" s at the end. (e:uchina) I bet you would have loved this event.

May showers

(e:terry) and I went for a bike ride on a hot night. the new canals are so nice in the warm weather. definitely can't bike in them though.
we got home just in time to avoid the storm and watch it from the porch. Check out the crazy gifs I caught of the lightning from our porch. (you may have to click for full size to see the animation)

Mothers' day dinners

Despite the drama between (e:paul) and (e:mike) we managed two successful mother's day dinners. We stopped by (e:mike) and (e:libertad)'s for a really nice brunch they made with the Visco parents, and with some preparation still had enough time to cook out with my family. I think everyone was really happy with the day - I know I had a good time.

Paul makes the berries and cream dessert look so fancy.

Spring clening

In preparation for Mother's Day dinner at our house we absolutely hauled ass and cleaned for 10 hours. (e:Terry) made exorcized the public restroom smell from our bathroom and made it smell like new. He also made the foyer polished and shiny like I've never seen. (e:Paul) dehoarded the kitchen spotless by dumping Bush era food. And I cleaned up tortoise land and dusted and vacuumed all the dirty corners.

I don't know how any less than three people could ever maintain a clean house this big. Its almost gross. Good thing (e:yesthatcasey) is moving in, he can help out :)

Later we went to Wasabi for dinner with (e:yesthatcasey), and my old friend Julie's birthday at Goodbar. I hadn't seen her or my other old friend Jennie in forever.

Later I got probably the craziest and sickest I've ever been from a cookie. I felt like Terry does in these pictures.
