Fried truffle oil spoonful cereal

Last night I went with Terry and Denise to (e:dianne)'s birthday party. The birthday party was crazy fun and had more than enough bean dip. Super impressive fitting that many people in there too. Hope it was a happy birthday!

image

(e:paul) couldn't go because of cats ;(. So I went home around midnight to go out with him. We were going to go the Just Rave 3.5 party at the Town Ballroom. Paul had to be the one to pry me from the fire for once.

Before we left, (e:paul) suggested that we stay home and fry cereal like his friend used to do in grade school. We went out instead.

It turns out that the event was sold out. What's happening lately that everything electronic in Buffalo is packed now? This was the third big show in a week too. I think electronic music has finally come back to Buffalo for the first time since (e:paul)'s raver days. It's amazing how many options for dancing there are lately.

We waited outside for almost an hour and a half before they announced they weren't letting anymore people in without tickets. A silly (e:terry) came by and waited with us for a half hour, and left. Even people who did have tickets were still waiting at 2 am - I would have been so freaking pissed that they oversold like that. I wonder if it's because their floor collapsed before:

image

Paul and I went to Underground after for a drink. It's gone from saddy hardcore to just sad. 2am, "Hey there Delilah" and nobody there. Maybe we should bring our own music and take it over, the dance floor is way roomier than Funky Monkey.

We went home to find a very cold (e:terry) waiting outside for us, since he didn't have his key. After we got in and warmed up, Paul cooked up the most redonkulous bougie treat ever - fried truffle oil fancy cereal. His mom gave him truffle oil for his birthday, so with that, multigrain cereal, butter, a little sugar and Parmesan cheese, we had the most amazing cereal I've ever tasted. I still can't believe it.

Lake ice

We went down onto the ice at Wilkenson Point with (e:Terry)'s mom. It actually wasn't windy for once. I love sliding around on the ice, I want to go down more like last year - good thing we have a lot of time still.

This 360 photo sums up winter in Buffalo - white and dimly lit.

Datsik at Town Ballroom

On Wednesday. (e:paul) and I went to the Datsik concert at Town Ballroom.

image
These babies were here to wish me goodbye from 901 when I left work.

The concert opened up with a DJ that I initally thought was Datsik. He played a mix of dubstep/drum and bass prefaced by either a top 40, Bon Jovi, or mariachi song with no transition. It was so strange to see all these 19 year old bros screaming to a remix of "Living on a Prayer".

image

Next Datsik came on. I'm didn't think I was into dubstep but this was absoutely ridiculous. Town Ballroom felt like what I imagine a crazy big city club to be like because it was so packed. It's really weird how quickly dubstep/electronic music went from something nerdy when I was in college to big trendy shows like this now. There were people trying to mosh and crowd surf, but the best dancing was in the back where we had tons of room.

Speaking of the crowd, they were ridiculous and so young. All these guys who were rolling so bad really wanted us to come to Bambino for some show after. It was a work night so Paul and I went to underground instead. I haven't been there in a while and it's very run down, but I think I prefer it over Cathode. The dance area is way cooler. Some drunk old man started yelling at us about peanut butter and jelly.

This sounds like it'd be one of those classy underground nights

The night ended with Jim Steakout and some greasy veggie tacos.

image
On the way home, we saw this pile of asphalt just dumped all over the snow on the sidewalk. Who thought this was a solution to anything?

Terrymon digitiert zu...

Schwanzmon! Greif dich an!

At work I still listen to a constant stream of German in the background so that maybe I'll pick up more. Lately it's been Digimon. It's a cute show that's easy to understand without having to watch the video.

They're all on youtube so it's very easy to listen to them on my phone. The second video is so freaking cute with the little digimon babies.

While I was listening to it I realized one of the digimon (Gabumon?) had a familiar voice. I realized it was one of Terry's German voices. Then I remembered him saying that when (e:paul) and (e:terry) were in Germany, Terry learned a lot by watching Digimon and Dragonball Z. Weirdly enough there's a character named TK in it.

It makes me wonder what kind of speech habits I pick up what I listen to. When I read German text a lot of phrases get repeated how Ladykracher's characters would say them.

My dad reviews

My brother Daniel has always been a good writer. A weird one but a good one.

See here

The other day he sent me his new tumblr, "mydadreviews". He writes as a suburban everyman mixed in with his own nerdiness. It reminds me of when we used to sit around the family computer and write down all these ridiculous stories. I specifically remember writing one about Louis Braille leading a double life as a trans-woman, Louise Braille. So bizarre.

Unfortunately I don't think I have a creative writing bone left in my body after wringing them out in college, so I'll have to live vicariously through my brother.

Bubbs, if you read this, sign up for (e:strip) already.

Buzzword chips

(e:paul) got these buzzword chips for his birthday. To be fair they really are delicious but despite the name, there is almost no kale in them. Corn chips with a green speck.

They are full of foodie buzzwords though - organic, gluten free, non-GMO, kale and quinoa chips. Sometimes I feel like I could make and sell yuppie food too - it's really a fill in the blank of buzzwords, green packaging and a cute story about finding "your passion for healthy natural foods" on the back.

Paul's birthday finale

The last of four days. Every family has gotten to celebrate it now. (e:paul), (e:mike), Maria and I stomped Catchphrase before Paul and I retired. The food was amazing. I want to eat cheesy mushroom artichokes for the rest of my life. Like Paul, I don't think I'll ever be hungry again.

On the way home, we saw this car drunkenly swerving down Elmwood, they couldn't even stay in a lane. I wanted to call them in so bad - when they turned on Hertel we saw a cyclist only about 1000 feet ahead. As someone who's been run off the road on my bike by drivers like that, it drives me fucking insane that anyone would ever do that. I really wish I had followed them.

Mike-a-palooza

Last night, (e:terry)'s mom got in to visit for a week. First thing we did, after a the parking squabble (e:joe,59782) was go to Seabar to celebrate (e:paul)'s birthday again with his favorite fish. The dinner was really good. I got the goat cheese salad and vegetarian roll.

image
Paul was full and fell asleep

Afterwards I headed over to Mike's place for "Mike-a-polooza. Like (e:paul)'s birthday it also evolved into a week long event.
image

It was a very classy affair.

Emily was making drinks with this stuff - it smelled like root beer barrel candy

Mike started to auction off a self portrait he had made.
