International Institute Dinner

The International Institute dinner was Thursday at the Hotel Lafayette. (e:paul) and I joined the Allen Street crew after work.

The food was real tasty but sadly they ran out of a lot of the veggie things before I got to try them. The best part was that I think the desserts - Bavarian Nut company, and Gelato Gypsy included.

We also saw Seth play for the event.

New NFTA stations

The new stainless steel metro stations in the 500 block look so much freaking better than the old rusty green ones. Too bad they're only replacing two stations worth - the rest make us look stuck in the 80's. They've also kept the creepy classical music playing.

I love Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh is my new favorite city. I feel like I'm cheating on Buffalo when we're there. It has a such a big city feel compared to Buffalo and a way better landscape. Who can even imagine your legs biking around this town? Beast.

We got to do a bit more exploring this time, and hung out with my sister Emily.

When can we move?

Raw potato

On the way to Pittsburgh, we stopped at Wendy's for lunch. I don't rememeber the last time I ate there but it was over 6 years ago because I liked their chicken nuggets.

I ordered a baked potato. It was hot but completely uncooked. The nacho cheese sauce was something at least.

Garage windows

To go along with the new garage roof, (e:paul) and I finally replaced the broken glass window.

He got real into it - we ended up jigsawing a craft store stick in half to use as window trim. It looks good, and I finally feel like we can keep stuff in there.

Emily's birthday at Hardware

We went to Hardware for Emily's birthday. Carrie and I tried to get them to play Taylor Swift but failed. Still danced our tailes off though.

We got to eat with our new bike friends (e:terry) and I made the week before.

Phone books

We got a phone book on the porch today. It still boggles my mind that they feel the need to publish them or even could make a profit on it. My parents don't even use one anymore. Shouldn't it be an opt in program?

Gutters on the garage

Despite the new roof on the garage, water was still coming in through the base of the garage. I think it's because the yard is all sloped towards the back of it, where the water runs off.

So (e:paul) and I went to the hardware store got an aluminum gutter, and installed it, all in a few hours. The hardware store was the worst part of it. We ran the hose on top of the garage for a bit and it worked perfectly.

Right now all we have to do is get a water barrel, since there's no good spot to drain in the backyard. I think we can get one from Riverkeeper.

Baby grilled cheese

Tinier food is fancier, therefore better, right? (e:paul) and I made these grilled cheeses out of (e:mikes) stale loaf of break. Too bad we only had enough for two. Yum.

Hunters Creek

The hike down at Hunter's Creek was awesome and a perfectly warm fall day.
We saw the craziest dead tree that was bored by some bug - not an emerald ash though.

On the way home, we stopped at a fancy Ethiopian restaurant in East Aurora. It was way too expensive for what the food was - and not spicy enough. I'd rather go to Lucy's or Gartur's even if they aren't as polished.

My favorite part of exposed shale beds like this is the laser straight lines the fractures in them make. Engineer's dream I guess.
