usability on mobile phones
Summary:
Mobile phone users struggle mightily to use websites, even on high-end devices. To solve the problems, websites should provide special mobile versions.

Tiny Buffalo Rising article
Little more historical bit: What is the "railroad swing bridge"? Is that the thing you go over from West Ferry across Niagara to the park? Is the railroad bridge between Canada & US still in use?
And one goofy photo from A's most recent gig...

reading assignment quotes
One of the persistent themes of English and American legal history is the continuous efforts of the rich to avoid taxes.
Dukeminier, Property p. 179
Jesus walked into a bar. He approached three sad-faced gentlemen at a table and greeted the first one: "What's troubling you, brother?" he said. "My eyes. I keep getting stronger and stronger glasses, and I still can't see." Jesus touched the man, who ran outside to tell the world about his now 20-20 vision. The next gentleman couldn't hear Jesus' question, so The Lord just touched his ears, restoring his hearing to perfection. This man, too, ran out the door, probably on the way to the audiologist to get a hearing-aid refund. The third man leapt from from his chiar and backed up against the wall, even before Jesus could greet him. "Don't you come near me, man! Don't touch me!" he screamed. "I'm on disability."
Marc Galanter, 50 DePaul L. Rev. 647, 659. Originally from Theodore Ernst, Laughter 43 (1925) A whole article of lawyer and malingerer jokes.

Cous cous
I'm loving (e:tinypliny)'s dinners, virtually unfortunately. I thought I'd share mine.
1 c. water
1 T. butter
1 t. veggie base/bouillon
4 scoops of cous cous in a can
1/4 c. raisins (estimate)
2 T. sunflower seeds (estimate)
2 T. fresh cilantro, chopped
Boil water, butter, veggie base. Remove from heat. Stir in cous cous, raisins and sunflower seeds. Let sit for 7 minutes. Stir in cilantro. Salt if necessary.
Quick & easy! Not really a meal, but a good start of one.

Moving video about Prop 8
The Don't Divorce Us campaign...
Thanks to (e:Lauren), (e:FellyConnelly) and (e:) Vincent for hanging out at Nietzsche's last night. Zili Misik was INCREDIBLE! And as always, the Stripteasers were lots of fun.

driving, snow & sun
I was stuck all day Sunday in the basement of the law school building at North Campus. A schoolmate gave me a ride back to Allen. My truck had been stuck all week on Irving Place...
(Truck on Friday 1/30)
... and I thought I'd try to get it unstuck since I had the assistance of the sun. Someone along Irving had left their snow shovel on the edge of the street so I borrowed it for a few minutes and freed my truck. (Thank you, parking gods!) Then I went for a ride before going to (e:Drew) & (e:Janelle)'s for spicy lentil dip, Hotels, beer, and Gilmore Girls. (e:Drew), (e:metalpeter), & (e:mrmike) wer very noisy in the other room, but I don't know what they were doing ;-) (e:jim), (e:james), (e:janelle) & i were quietly enjoying ourselves!
The ride was gorgeous. I went to that little bit of land that has the sewer plant on it and signs for Riverwalk. (Can anyone tell me its real name?) I should have grabbed my real camera - the angle of the sun was perfect.
I drove to school on Tuesday because... well, I guess I was feeling lazy and didn't want to take my big laptop on the metro. I pulled into the metered spots because I'd only be there 1.5 hrs and the lot was already full. Too bad the meters were all frozen! I left 3 quarters just in case the parking gods were no longer pleased with me.
My substantive classes start tomorrow. I'm dreading it because now I have to focus again, but I'm excited because it's stuff I'm more interested in and it'll be good to have a routine again. This semester I have property, contracts, and civil procedure & ethics. The property book starts with how the U.S. government justified taking all the land from the Native Americans. It really is shameful.

I visited this foyer recently and wanted to share with (e:matthew)! I wish I had taken a couple more shots to show the detailing.
Now this is some Buffalove (seen outside Cafe 59 1/12):
The Inauguration Ale at Village Beer Merchant was $25.99/growler. Yikes! The guy said it was really good and that he really couldn't charge his usual markup for it - it would have been about $36.
This possum has been terrorizing my buddies Jill & Kelly at the office. They're afraid of it. Meanwhile, Jill's husband has been feeding it cat food. (more about oppossums: )

Apple seems to be forcing that with native apps. The problem with native apps is that they are iphone specific and soon you need native apps for every phone type out there.
