family round-up
For someone who never used to abide by "the list" Dad certainly has embraced it now. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole Christmas gift registry concept myself. I never go by the list either. Although the one big ticket item per person thing could work. Then maybe I could get the digital camera I really want. On the other hand, maybe we should all just be "allowed" to buy ourselves whatever it is we want for Christmas. Seems a whole helluva lot easier and more likely to be successful. Yeah, that's not going to fly.
Dad would have loved the martini party last night. At least they got to meet everybody at the August pot-luck BBQ at Brenda & Kathy's.
My 7-year-old nephew sent me this joke:
Where can you dance in California?
San Frandisco!

Norm mixing my 1st martini / Kathy and Candy
The beautiful people
Mary, my dance partner for the evening / Sam & Justin
I could explain this, but some things are best left to the imagination
Yep. The party's in here guys.
bling close-up / self-portrait attempt
Earrings, wrap and boa scarf were big hits. Don't get much chance to wear those any more. I used to wear the earrings to work, and made that scarf for "Boa Fridays." Good times. I suppose I could still have"'Boa Fridays" but since I work at home alone, seems kind of pretentious.

Post Scene
Clearly I have to get a cell phone with a better camera. Or a flash attachment. ;)
God, I love living here. I had the best time last night at Popscene. Only $5 to get in if you're legal. Fat Tire on tap. Great dance tunes (OMD, Buzzcocks, Franz Ferdinand). Small/intimate but not crowded. And two freakin' good bands. What the hell else do you want?
I have to go to this since Morrissey [c]cancelled[/c] on me at the Now & Zen Fest --
THE MEAT IS MURDER THANKSGIVING SPECIAL
Join us on this holiday as the popscene DJs go deep into the Smiths/ Morrissey catalog for all you people who love them. Last year was a blast, so come out and have some fun with your friends. Its not like you have to work the next day, right?
Jezus'freakin'keeriste (e:j3sse), why did you have to move? Guess I'll just have to see if new music bud Aaron wants go, since Steven Patrick bailed on him too (even though I'm the one taking it personally). But it's just not the same.
I'm really getting into this duality thing. I can stuff myself and be thankful and lethargic all day, then dance to vegan-militant mope-rock all night. Embrace the polarity!

Out femme'd
another low-res, low-light cell phone pic
Hey, I made those curtains for them though. That should count for something.
We didn't actually eat at the table tonight. We munched our portabella burgers in front of the tube like normal folk. Guess I don't have to feel too threatened.
Almost time to head into SF for Dogs Die In Hot Cars. Such a sad name. Hope they're good.

Ok, ok -- maybe that's a stretch. Still, having two simultaneous IM sessions going w/(e:paul) last night reminded me of the time we had at least five going at once. But then, that was to test the new [inlink]news,524[/inlink] YIM! integration. (Or was it...?)
;)
See what I mean? I did not set this up.
Um, it's a little late to be asking me that now!

Popscene
Kind of funny to be turned on to new bands by a guy who's 10 years older than I am, but I hate listening to commercial radio these days and he hears about them by avidly reading Brit music magazine 'Q.' So that's the backstory.
We're going to see Dogs Die in Hot Cars this Thursday, and the Futureheads again next Friday, at Popscene -
basically, doors open at 10pm, popscene dj's spin cool 'danceable' indie music,
the band plays around 11:15 or so and then we spin records to close.
Also got tix for X at Great American Music Hall Jan. 15. I can't wait for that one. X is Andy's (my best music buddy ever) favorite band. God I miss him. We lived on the same dorm floor freshman year with all journalism majors, and we're all still pretty close because of that. Andy and I started showing up at the same shows all the time and finally decided maybe relentless independence was overrated and we should try going to shows together instead of just showing up solo all the time. That was the start of a beautiful friendship. Anyway, any time X was in Boston we went to see them. I think diving into the mosh pit kept him connected to his LA roots. I'd just let myself get bounced around the fringe until he emerged from the depths. That was fun.
I couldn't convince my new music buddy, Larry*, to go see X at Slim's instead, so I don't think we'll be moshing. Oh well, easier on the shoes.
- Not to be confused with my other new music buddy, Aaron - The Cure, Tears for Fears and Morrissey (although Morrissey called in sick! dang!) and R.E.M. Kind of funny, because he's 10 years younger than I am. Who knew a love of 80s music could span the generations?
