Unsyncopated Ensemble Beats

Apparently this track has some of those.

What on earth is an unsyncopated ensemble beat? Do people outside of Pandora's offices even know whatever it means?

Unsyncopation aside, electronic musicheads on (e:strip) - any tips on finding music similar to this particular track? The track sounds a bit like Prodigy's staggered-big-beats-bass-line old stuff but I am not sure who else sounds similar - any clues?

PS: Yes, I know it's on the Matrix soundtrack but most of the other tracks are lame - perhaps they aren't unsyncopated enough. Who knows... I tried building a song-based channel but Pandora's similar music engine seems to be churning out pretty dis-unsyncopated music. I also sampled Rob Dougan's other stuff. But most if it is rather slow and puts me to sleep. The Rob Dougan radio on Last.fm switches to E. S. Posthumous and the rest of the neo-cinematic ilk - but this is clearly an underground big-beat club dance track.

I got a smashing haircut from an actual celebrity hairstylist today. Not just a celebrity in the hairstyling world in NYC but a celebrity in the true Hollywood sense. :-)

You can see him in the wedding scene in a recent film called "When in Rome".

He has cut and styled Robert DiNiro's and Madonna's hair and till recently, used to run a hair salon right in the heart of Union Square, NYC. However, ownership of a big and affordable house and westside Italian family roots beckoned in Buffalo and he moved here earlier this year.

So, if you are game for a celebrity hairdo and some riotous banter, head over to SuperCuts near Delaware and Amherst and ask for Roberto. I guarantee it will be an entertaining one. ;-)

Breakfast lentil Smoothie

I have a new breakfast favourite and recipe was a complete accident.

I had chopped granny smith apples and carrots for a salad yesterday but in a moment of distraction, I tossed them in when I was sautÃ©ing green onions and garlic today.

When I realized that it was not zucchini but granny smiths, I stopped sautÃ©ing. The onions were still translucent and not browned. I added cooked french lentils and kidney beans, brought it to a boil and purÃ©Ã©d it all. Garnished it with powdered coriander, cumin and fresh coriander leaves and thinned it out with water and freshly-squeezed lemon juice.

And that's what I am having for breakfast - spiced and steamy lentil smoothie with carrots, apples and onions. It's delicious! :-)

Mystery Insect

Does anyone know what this mystery insect is?

It looks like a millipede but is waaay too fast and light. I see it sometimes scurrying on the walls of my flat.

It is a plastic deli container and works great because it has a thin lid that I can slide under the container once I have the bug in it. I don't think I have ever injured one in the process. They can withstand losing their legs anyways.

The truth is...

I have definite animal-hair related allergies. I found that out for sure over this weekend. I thought I had missed something growing up with a strict rule against having pets. Turns out, I just missed sneezing like a maniac and having the worst itchy nose ever.

What is interesting is the symptoms seem to have a latency period and kick in after having more than a few hours of contact with animal hair. Certainly feels like a delayed hypersensitivity reaction.

Also, being woken up at 3:45 in the night with a huge dog breathing and drooling on your face to be let out in the yard is not restful. I guess I will stick to the no-pet policy from now on.

Roswell Cafeteria

Just got charged $5.76 for a grilled cheese sandwich with green peppers and onions - that was mediocre at best. The regular grilled cheese sandwich is $2.36. Grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes is $2.69. Grilled cheese sandwich with bacon, tomato and lettuce is $3.39.

I don't like squabbling over charges at check out. I think it is just crazy that on the rare occasions that I do decide to get something from the place, I am overcharged without fail.

I am done with the Roswell Cafeteria. Once and for all.

Ok here goes once and for all, it's time we cook together. Most times for lunch lately I've been eating little packs of this Gobi Aloo I whipped together and froze for lunchtime consumption.

I need some more new veggie indian dishes though, for now I fool around with this one. I was going to use tofu to make it a bit more hardy but had a pack of paneer and decided to toss it in there instead and it wasn't half bad, even if the rice sucked (I used Goya Jasmine and I might as well used short grain white cause it was awwwwful).

Pack a lunch, and if you're desperate for yummies for cheap send me an email and we'll see what we have in the freezer.

Fancy and Delicious

Monsoon Whatever Food: Hated it

The votes are in. (e:libertad) and I tried the monsoon food at the Roswell Cafeteria today and the unanimous vote is: Ehh! HATE IT.

Many reasons:

1. For something that is touted as "Indian", WHAT THE WHAT?! It's not vegetarian friendly! When I requested more samosas and bread instead of the chicken "curry" and rice, they said they would omit the rice and "curry" but could not give me more samosas and bread. The price for a reduced meal (sans rice and "curry") was the same as the price for the whole meal. They probably have some sort of instructions on how to sell the whole "monsoon entree" but not having any sort of alternative arrangements for people who don't eat meat (and having the audacity to call it "Indian") is inexcusable. And yes. I am authorized to criticize because I am Indian.

2. The shredded (cooked in some awful way) vegetables were an enormous disgrace to all self-respecting vegetables on the planet. I can finally see where all the hatred for veggies comes from. I really feel sorry for any kid that has to eat vegetables like that. It smelled like GRASS and was lukewarm. I think whatever they did to veggies today should be outlawed.

3. I didn't take the rice and "curry" but (e:libertad) wasn't too enthused about them either. He later got a heartburn because of the food. Indian spices promote digestion and don't give you heartburn. Another sign that calling something "Indian" and naming it after the monsoons doesn't make it even remotely "Indian".

I hope this ill-conceived fling with "Indian" food is short-lived. I will not be surprised if it gives real Indian food a bad reputation among people for whom this is an introduction to "Indian" cuisine.

Badly done indeed.

PS: That they called menu items "curry" should have tipped me about how un-Indian it would be, but I totally ignored my cranky assertive internal voice today. Shouldn't have...

PPS: Loved trashing the whole thing with beady eyes and whatnots with (e:libertad) ofcourse. :-)

PPPS: OMG, Fern is half my height, and she is hardly 3 (We ran into (e:enknot) and (e:megan) at lunch.)
