Need Cell Phone Advice

Okay, so a week (ok, more than that) ago I lost my phone after I went to Consumer's to get my St. Bernardus - I was hoping to find it but at the same time the damn thing was broken (no to ringey, yes to vibey).

So I need a new phone, and I guess I have to get it tomorrow sometime.

Now, I don't need the newest fanciest, most advanced tech in a hand held device. I have never felt the need to browse the web on my phone, so I guess I don't really care if it has uber fast data transfer rates or neat browsers. I also will probably never care to listen to music on my phone. I have an iPod that works.

I need a phone, with voice mail, with a camera on it, and I also text on occasion. Basically something decent, fairly modern. I was thinking either LG Chocolate, or maybe a KRZR, or something along those lines.

What do you use? What would you pick?

Dern Meddling Kids, and Thom Yorke

Yeah, we went out to my car this morning to go to work and we saw someone had splotched a bunch of pink/brown something on the driver's side window. Immediately I thought that it was someone I know, someone petty, who isn't really above doing that kind of thing. Then I thought, eh, maybe it was some drunk idiot or a stupid kid who did it. Doesn't matter. Whatev.

I've been thinking more about Radiohead recently. They have a new album coming out this year, and I've just read some rumors that it will have an overt political feel. Holy fuck. As much as I love his music (with a big EXCEPT going out to his solo work) I cannot stand the thought of Radiohead going even more left wing. Thom, everything you write on your little blog has to do with something political.

Hey, I hate consumerism! Buy our merch, albums and tix!

Hey, I hate global warming! Come to Bonnaroo and see us!

Thom, I don't know how you can live with yourself. It must be a very complicated life for someone in your position. Hey, you promised that the rumors aren't true, that this next one won't be political, but after following your group for 10 years plus, I know better than to trust something you say in an interview. If you say it won't be political, I have my fears you're going to go off the deep end.

That being said, I listened to Hail to the Thief (HAR HAR HAR!) again today, and I loved it per usual. Hey, Thom, are you actually going to sing again someday?

Yeah, you guys know I'm going to buy it and love it anyway. There are comparisons to OK Computer, and if it is anywhere near as good as OK Computer I'll be in H-E-A-V-E-N.

BREAKING: Women Like Muscled Men!

Yes, it's true! Researchers at UCLA have spent real time and real money discovering what we have already known for thousands of years! Don't you love Academia? Check it out:

"Women were more physically attracted to brawny men, especially for a fling. But when it comes to finding a long-term partner, they tend to pick a regular man over a mate with huge biceps."

Wow. Who could have ever guessed that? Party girl goes and finds hot roided up guys, enjoys dong after dong, and then somehow inexplicably "grows up" one morning and decides she wants a guy with a paycheck and who won't smack the shit out of her, to set her up for the future. You don't need a team of eggheads at UCLA to tell you that! You just have to observe everyday life.

Of course, early on I was flagged as being the latter, not the former, unfortunately. Yeah, being the guy you settle down with should be a whole lot of "fun" after you've exhausted every last sexual fantasy on former gym class heroes who couldn't give a shit about you or any other wet vagina. They lust after one kind of man, but "love" another kind of man, and then say "But I CHOSE YOU." Oh, is that really ever true?

I hate relationships. There has to be someone that fits, someone as crazy as me that laughs at everyone else.

Ugly 4th!

Man, I didn't get to BBQ. I didn't get my OV splits. And, I sure as shit am not going to enjoy some Eurotrash socialist froo froo meal either. No, not on the 4th. The 4th means beef, beer, Bruce Springsteen, and USA flag bikinis. What a terrible 4th it was this year, except that I got the day off, which was nice.

Been kind of feeling antisocial, again. Ugh. (e:Lilho), I'm sorry we didn't get to hang out before you left. Josh and I both got really sick at the wrong time, plus, I was feeling sort of antisocial. Sometimes I get that way. It would have been nice to sit on the porch and chat, and maybe get a cheap feel in (jk! jk! jk!). I don't think you would have had much fun anyway, seeing as I was a hacking, coughing mess. Plus I'm a lame-o. E-mail me sometime when you're bored.

(e:Ladycroft) - I saw your sticky. Again, I'm just feeling antisocial. It's not my fault, or so I am told constantly it is not my fault. We are looking for a way to properly "treat" the picture so it does not go "bad", whatever that means but you get the idea. Don't worry so much about the details surrounding your exodus to the desert. It will get done, and you are going to have such a good experience there. I especially liked the news paper with the ad for the loan that adheres to shari'a law.

(e:Jenks) - we can have that music conversation whenever you like. Assuming of course I'm not feeling antisocial. I need some new tunes. Also I want to see you not stressed out so much over some dude. Nobody is perfect, nobody is ideal. Everyone just looks to upgrade anyway. Who wants to wager that you would like him LESS if he were crazy about you? Now there is a provocative thought.

Did I mention I'm feeling antisocial? How do you get over that?

Pitts Was Cool

But we got home at 2 AM. OUCH! I am so tired right now and don't know how I'm going to get through the day without nodding off.

There seem to be very little hotels available from July 9-13 in the city proper. Is there something going on at that time I am unaware of?

Thank You Peeps

Thank you peeps for wishing me a good birthday, and especially (e:Ladycroft) who gave us a very, very nice gift.

Went with Jerry to Faherty's, with one of the bartenders being the ex's best friend, but she was really cool with me. She said I did nothing wrong to her friend so she isn't mad at me. Good.

Now, I'd like to say that I didn't go and make a whore of myself last night but yeah I did get a little mouth nookie at the bar. That's always nice.

Time to go to Pitts! Watch for us on TV on Sunday! We'll be at the US Open.

And (e:imk2) - take some freakin vitamins for that hangover!

Radiohead Is Dethroned

After many years, I have to finally stop ignoring the part of their work that I don't like. I love The Bends, and OK Computer, and they will always be two of my favorite albums, but I'm not all that happy about the direction they've taken since then. I think some of it is very interesting music, in an academic sense. Some of it is pleasing, some of it is not. Thom Yorke is wasting his vocal talent on manufactured bleeps and bloops. His solo albums are borderline unlistenable.

Now some people really like the "new" Radiohead. They are more or less unaware, or uninterested, in the rock music they've made. I don't HATE them, but I can't call Radiohead my favorite band any longer.

The crown now belongs to a band from Manchester, England called Doves. I'm sure I've written about them before. Anyhow here's an Amazon link, in case you want to sample:

I can honestly say that I enjoy their entire body of work. They write some very fascinating, diverse songs. Like earlier Radiohead, I never get sick of Doves. There isn't a lot of music out there that inspires me anymore, but they always deliver. In fact, they are in studio now working on a new album, which I cannot wait to hear. I am 100% convinced of how good they are, and am fascist intolerant when it comes to divergent opinions on this.

Someone also has introduced me to a band from Athens, GA called Of Montreal. I have read about them, and a thousand other bands, in SPIN but never gave them a serious listen until recently. Having listened through two of them albums, The Sunlandic Twins and Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? I have to say I really enjoy them.

Bands have been increasingly looking to the 80's for inspiration for some reason......the glam, the synths, the artificial percussion, everything. I think introducing New Wave concepts into rock music is an appealing idea, but most bands overdo it, succumbing to the over-the-top indulgences of New Wave, and the 80's in general. Of Montreal pulls it off quite nicely, actually, for my tastes. It is candy coated, but it won't rot your teeth completely. The songs sound very pleasing to a fan of indie rock.

I'm told some of their earlier albums have been very Dance-Pop, and some of you might like that. I don't, and I won't listen to it, so you'll have to decide on your own whether or not that part of their discography is worth a damn. What I will say is that they are a very creative, motivated group. I can appreciate that.

Enjoy your weekend bitches!
