easy being green
Hello Lisa,
Thank you for volunteering with the SF Green Festival, Nov. 6 & 7. It is a large event and the volunteers make it all possible, so your help is greatly appreciated. Please excuse us for the late response to your volunteer request. This message will provide you with the specific position and time of your shift(s). If there is a problem with the shift(s) that you have been assigned or if you are interested in working more shifts, then do not hestitate to contact us.
You have been scheduled to volunteer at the following time(s) and position(s):
City: SF
Task: Bike Valet
Day: Saturday
Shift: 1, 9:00am-1:30pm
Your shift time includes the 4 hour shift and 30 minutes for training. When you arrive you should report to the Volunteer Registration Desk in order to get signed in. Volunteer Registration is located at the Volunteer/ Exhibitor Entrance to the Festival on 7th St. Please bring along a copy of this email as confirmation of your volunteer shift.
There will be a Volunteer Orientation which will take place 6:30pm- 7:30pm on Thursday, Nov. 4, at the SF Concourse (8th & Brannan) upstairs in the Mezzanine. The orientation is not mandatory, but recommended as it will give a good overview of the SF Concourse, the Festival and its co-producers Global Exchange and Coop America.
There will also be important trainings for all Greening and Membership volunteers immediately following the orientation (7:30- 8pm). Although also not mandatory, if you are working with the Greening or Membership we ask that do your best to attend, as these positions require extra training in preparation for the event.
Thank you again for volunteering for the Greening Festival. You can check the website for more logsitics concerning directions, parking, etc..., and we look forward to seeing you at the event.

skin
Like so many things that start out cool, mainstream popularity is ruining it.
On a good note, I love that the San Francisco Chronicle has a "Skin" column . The Boston Globe didn't have that.

harold & maude
Harold & Maude is quite possibly my favorite movie. Definitely in the top 10. I love the soundtrack, Cat Stevens' weirdnesses aside. When I moved to California I kind of adopted it (along with LA Story) as my personal cult flicks. When people come to visit me sometimes I make them watch one or the other while they're here. When I got laid off from my last job, Harold & Maude was playing the same day at the Red Vic. I took that as an omen, although I don't know of what. In any case, it made me feel better to walk out the door and have somewhere to go.
That's a great sketch! You must be a wicked etch-a-sketch artist. I'm completely inadequate when faced with a blank canvas.

Edible costume?
Brussel sprouts $2.99/stalk
Not sure yet how these might be incorporated, but considering the crazy-ass vegetables they have out here, I could make a whole Carmen Miranda (vegan version) costume, and have the makings of a tasty buffet afterwards. Reduce, reuse, recycle.
(Wow - first entry with no highlighted words in spellcheck. Do I win anything? Oops, added caption and doesn't like brussel sprouts. Well, that's true for a lot of people.)

Volcano done
Final Verdict: Foregoing the ash cloud hood, more lava added since this pic, volano is currently residing my nephew's room per his request. Thank goodness for the imagination of a 7-year-old.
Side note[inlink]j3sse,19[/inlink]to (e:j3sse) : yeah, I can't believe this will be my fourth Halloween out here. Although Halloween homesickness drove me back to Boston the first year. Local Halloween parties the last two years. My ex-roomie invited me to go H'ween party hopping this year, but haven't been able to convince him to swing by the Castro en route. Still cultivating other potential cohorts.
In the interest of balanced reporting, here's the story about how the Castro party has gotten "out of control" prompting attempts to move it to the Civic Center in recent years.
p.s. - If Bush wins I'm moving to Toronto.
p.p.s. to j3sse - thanks 'DAD!'
All right. Enough about me. I'm laying low for awhile. I can quit any time. Honest!

fish
That's my ex. My friends are mystified that he doesn't sleep with me when he visits. Frankly I was miffed about that at first too, but I got over it. I hate being rational sometimes.
I know, who cares if I have the same sheets? It's just a lame attempt at finding random parallelisms.
(wow, no spelling errors again. even parallelisms! and I thought I just made that up.)
p.s. - I hope they find your friend Maria, (e:Holly) . That's really scary.
p.p.s. - Happy Birthday!

bi-coastal eclipse
Moon over the Oakland Coliseum.
I have to get a better camera. And the photographer could use some improvement too. Should have brought the tripod.
The last lunar eclipse I attempted to document was at Arches National Park, Moab, UT in May 2003 -
same damn camera. and photographer.
Here's a great Bay area shot of last night's eclipse by a pro
