Proud Papa
I really never knew. I knew that my mom would be proud but she was more expressive than he is in the parent arena.
All I can say is WOW. My dad is always full of silly jokes that I never found funny. I think sometimes I am too serious and have always expected this specific parent role from him. It has been difficult to accept him for who he is because all I ever heard was how different he was when my parents married. So I think that I was waiting to see this other person. Perhaps this other person who would seem more equivalent to my mother. After all, they fell in love, married and had children based on some likeness. right?
So he tells me that he has always been proud of me and may have expressed it to me in an indirect manner. He said that he would always tell me that "I was good to go!"
I would have never realized that was suppose to interpret to "proud of you oldest daughter".
I was such a straight laced, honor student and self sufficient child. But I always wanted to know that my parents were behind me.
He then went on to state that if he never conveyed his feelings in a more direct way to me, that I should know that he brags about me to everyone he knows.
Who would have every known?
Especially since I always felt that he blows me off when I come to town to visit the family. Maybe that's a whole 'nother can of worms.
Well, interestingly enough after 30 years, I got the wonderful opportunity to know that my father is proud of me.

Why do we assume people know we love them? We should tell them more. It's not like you can say it too much, or like anyone would get sick of hearing it.
And your bit about 'right place right time' in your next post also hits a chord. have been talking about that a lot lately. Maybe we are kindred spirits- despite having never met.
yay.
Cheers!
