haircut review
so I usually get my hair cut at the Aveda place in the Galleria. Which is definitely a pleasant experience... herbal tea, scalp massage, etc. But it's $40 + tip, and it's a trek to the galleria. So i figured I'd try my local place- Parkway Haircutting- right next to Coles.
They have a big fancy sign and look from the outside like a pretty classy salon.
Well, they're not as nice on the inside.
Sort of barber-ish with a guy doing guy haircuts in the corner. Just two chairs, and they're not selling your usual super-expensive fancy name shampoo etc. But I figured what the hell, I don't do anything too fancy with my hair, how much can she fuck it up.
So I told charlene I wanted to take a couple inches off and gave her my rules-
that I can't be bothered with a blow dryer and that it has to be able to go in a pony tail.
And she went to town and cut all these crazy layers- I was a little nervous, but let her do her thing. She blew it dry, and it didn't look great when I left, but like I said my hair doesn't like the blow dryer.
So I went home and washed it, and so far it seems like a decent haircut.
And best of all- I was in and out (shampooed, cut, dried, etc) in 30 min flat.
And it was $20 with a UB ID.
So certainly not a Chic Salon/Spa Experience- but not bad for $20 and 30 min.

not worth reading
I went out last night. Somehow got roped into driving, which meant I didn't get very drunk, but my alcoholic friends did, and somehow I ended up with two of them crashing at my place.
But we went to Bistro Europa (the new place next to faherty's)- it's really cool. The owner really knows wine (which I do not) but they have a nice (if pricey) wine list. And they have great (cheap) food. It's supposed to be "european comfort food". The menu isn't very big, but they have dishes from all over. German, Polish, Swedish, Danish, French etc etc. We had this cheese and meat and fruit plate... it's so good. It had some pate (which I thought I didn't like) that was DELICIOUS. And it was only 6 bucks. Check it out.
We also went to the Sportsman's Tavern, which is ghetto, but cheap and fun. And Alison pipitone was playing and I guess my friends know her and her band so we hung out with them which was cool. Then there was some country band... I thought I hated country music, but this was like cool old school country. Willie Nelson style country. Surprisingly fun.
Thought I felt like going out tonight, but now I am suddenly feeling super lazy. But I don't have that many weekends off, so I feel lame if I 'waste' them doing nothing. Hrm.
I really never go clothes shopping, but the other day I checked out the sales at jcrew online- and I got my sister's wedding dress (but in pink) for $69. It's beautiful. I have no reason to wear it. But $400 down to $69, how could I not. Probably weird of me to have my sister's wedding dress, though. (but actually one my cousins wore the same dress (but in navy) to the wedding. Wearing the same dress as the bride. Hehe.)
Man. Why am I so damn boring lately?
I thought I needed a break from all the drama nonsense- but I realize that without it my life is quite boring.
I think I need to bring it back.
Later peeps.

Oh, and ps: for the people that liked the song I put up- I get most of my 'leads' on cool new stuff from my friends, especially this site: Crossing State Lines. (It's in my links on the right, too, in case it doesn't work for you here.)

random stuff
Unfortunately that drama continues b/c I am an idiot and just cannot move on. I thought I was getting better, but as I proved to myself (and poor imk) last night- it is still ALL I can talk about. And as anyone who knows me knows- I can talk.
But we were also talking- where have all the peeps gone?? There are like 20 people that post regularly. I swear there used to be more. Hmmmmm.
So not all that many people post, but SOMEONE sure is reading... I have been naive enough until now to think that no one outside of this site reads my journal. I mean, why would they? And how/why would they even find it? But (e:matthew) told me once that one of his kid's mom likes my journal... And then my mystery guest found me... And then as yvonne pointed out- right now I have 224 journals. And 36,000+ views. Someone besides the 20-or-so active estrippers are reading. Hmmm...
I think I have to go to the mall. I don't want to, but my favorite (and only) jeans have a big hole in them. But, maybe I can peek at the new ipods. I am still trying to resist the call of that ridiculously overpriced new tivo box. I really think my ridiculously overpriced tv NEEDS it though....
Duh... I just had to come back to edit this, b/c I forgot the whole reason I wanted to post-
It has gotten to the point that I simply tune out all political talk. I just can't deal with it. And I'm not so into the Bush-bashing- but this video is kind of interesting. I'm not so sure there's pathology there besides getting older and being busy/distracted- but there is a big difference.

I am totally looking for somewhere to get a good haircut for a decent price. I'm picky as shit, though.
I would rather walk than have to bus it or bum a ride from my better half. Not that he is not willing, but it's not exactly fun for him, watching me get a haircut or colour...
i've been going (when i bother, it has been months, hell, probably a year since my last cut) to Studio 806 on Elmwood and getting cuts from a woman named Lauren. But the vibe there is totally snob fest and i HATE the brand of colours they use (Redkin reds seem to be the worst, why does anyone bother with them?). I am thinking of making an appointment next week...
But i would so rather go elsewhere if anyone has any suggestions!!
I just googled Now Salon, and an archive from Buffalo Rising had good bits about it... maybe i will check them out... shame we don't live at Linwood and Summer anymore!!
chico and I go to Now Salon down on Elmwood near Allen street. John is the owner and he's good. I like him a lot and I've had really good cuts since we moved to Buffalo. Prices are reasonable and he gives discounts with student ID. Cool vibe there too.
=))
If you got a good cut at this place, that's awesome - it's hard to find someone to cut curly hair!
