Shopping and Stewarts

I used to work at Stewarts Shops. For those of you who don't know, it is a smallish franchise gas station slash convenient store slash ice cream shop. I worked there for two years after graduating college and falling for Felly. Stewarts wanted to be known for its small business, local community blahdee blah shit and most important, its coffee. The reason behind this of course is that if you sell one cup of coffee out of a pot, you pay for that pot of coffee. Therefore, you sell a pot of coffee, you are making something like 3X's what you paid. Similair profit margins go for ice cream as well. And yes, 20-30 minutes was the max for how long a pot should sit out on the burner (4 hours for the ones in the hot pots) before making a new one, but this never happened except between the hours of 7am-1030am. Either way, we let people make their own damn coffee and although we never made the jump to those cool little International Delight flavored coffee creamers, we did have flavored French Vanilla and diner sized sugar containers so I didn't have to waste my time opening six zillion little packets of sugar. Also, I miss Cotton Candy Ice Cream.

Yesterday Felly and I went shopping. Our progression was as follows: Pier 1, Bed Bath & Beyond, Big K Mart, Target, Wal-Mart and finally, Home Depot. She has been bothering me for weeks about getting plants for our bedroom, so we got some, along with one of those cool bamboo plants that goes around itself in spirals. The problem now is that the cats think they are toys/snacks. We shall see how that goes. Also, (e:chico), we finally got a shower curtain!

Just for the hell of it...anyone ever been to a Sonic? I am originally from the midwest, Oklahoma to be exact, and haven't had Sonic in something like 4 years and they show effin commericals for Sonic here and the closest one is like...forever away. It drives me insane.

Tim Ho's and the like

Before coming to Buffalo, I had never heard of Tim Hortons. When I got here and saw one after another after another, I realized how big they really are. And of course, eventually ended up going there for some coffee. The first time (e:fellyconnelly) and I went, we both got coffees and I think some breakfast sandwiches. All I remember was the coffee being eternally hot and lacking in sugar. I like a lot of sugar in my coffee, perhaps an unhuman amount, but when I asked Felly to get me some extra, she was shot a dirty look by an employee. The sandwiches were amazing, but I was sad because without coffee, I am nothing.
Yesterday we went again. My worst Tim Ho's experience yet. First of all, we ordered two iced coffees and a sandwich to split. I said, as usualy, cream and sugar in my coffee. I should have asked for extra, but even then it wouldn't be enough. Then, they didn't have whole wheat bread for our sandwich. And then, I went to drink my drink, and the shitty top allowed the contents to be spilled down the front of my shirt. Grrrr. So my complaint really is, why can't I make my own godam coffee? And how hard is it to create a coffee cup that works? And finally, white bread tastes like eating paper.

Blue Moon

Since (e:fellyconnelly) and I moved to Buffalo we have acquired the habit of drinking beer every night. Granted it is usually like 2 or 3 beers split between us, never enough to get drunk, but enough so that we are going through a twelve pack every 4 to 5 days. This is new for me. I don't drink. Let alone drink beer. I am a wine girl at best, rum and pepsi if I am feeling frisky and want to dance. But beer? Yuck. But you see, Blue Moon tastes light, refreshing, and doesn't have that nasty beer feeling that I find accompanies typical beers. Either way, I am putting a stop to this. Beer is for weekends. Or at least, not every night. Ha! See, there it is already. This is how habits start and I refuse to become an alcoholic because I am bored.

One more thing. My entries have not been showing up in the recent entry column. They are there for a little while and then they disappear. Does anyone else have this problem or I am secretly being shunned from this community? Juuust Kidding.

Safe?

So, Felly and I come from a (for the most part) liberal town where we felt comfortable holding hands in public and being in public in general. Today we are going for a walk: to the bank to get quarters and to the post office for stamps. Felly says she is still not 100% comfortable holding hands/showing PDA's because we don't really know what we are dealing with here. Now, I know this is the home of Ani Difranco and all, but for all you gay folks out there, what is your opinion on the subject? I, to a certain extent, have "I look like a straight girl" priveleges that give me perhaps a false sense of security, but when my girlfriend and I are together only a small few would mistake us two straight girls out on the town.

Also, I have never lived in a city before, so I am only assuming, but I am sure it all depends on where you go, when you go, and all that jazz. And there are always the few that ruin it for the group.

Anyways, if anyone sees us on our walk, feel free to honk, wave, and yell obnoxious things from your cars.

Trickery

I am seeing now that if I don't post I have to deal with the annoying task of figuring out where the last post was that I read because it is not neatly highlighted in orange. Is this a trick to keep everyone posting?

I finally beat (e:fellyconnelly) at Scrabble last night, by ten points no less. Granted she was winning most of the way through and I cheated and looked up a word, "quag" in the dictionary, but its all irrelevant in the long run. I won and it made me a happy lady.

I've been waiting pateintly for my $4,000 dollars to show up in my bank account, but no dice yet. I am nervous about it though because we have been waiting to get this money so we can do things like get new tires for Felly's car and get my oil changed, but this is also money I need to by books for school and put gas gas in my car for the next 4 months. I am not good at budgeting and it has been awhile since I've had that much money in one place. However, Felly should be working soon and that will relieve some of this financial stress.

My cats are sleeping soundly and my girlfriend is curled up with her favorite book and I am type type typing away...it is usually the other way around. 5 Days till orientation.

Get me to the choppa!

A few weeks ago I noticed a rather low flying helicopter flying over my apt. A few days later I made the connection that there is in fact a hospital only a few blocks away and chances are there will be many helicopters flying overhead. I don't really mind, considering that I can't hear them in the bedroom and they aren't that loud, although they freak the cats out and cause them to go flying into the closet at mach speeds.

Two nights ago Felly beat me at Scrabble by 4 points. Last night I beat her by 5 points, only after she refused to let me lose because she spotted a play that would let me win. I guess it really is all about patience and strategery. Hehe.

Oh yeah. We decided to watch a movie last night through TVLinks which can lend to a certain amount of frustration as the links don't always work OR you can be 20 minutes into a movie and it stops because it refuses to download the rest. So, after 20 minutes of Bridge to Terabithia, we spontaneously chose The Notebook, which turns out is a three hour movie. Ah yes, and I knew it was sad because my lady friends informed of the tears they shared after watching it, but I didn't expect to cry because I am one of those tough girls who only cry when there are animals involved. Well let me tell you, it wasn't like I was bawling, but a single tear welled up in either eye and one even worked its way down a cheek. Sad movie. So very very sad.

Kitty Poetry

On my fridge I have some "GirlTalk" magnetic poetry. After taking it all out of the plastic baggy one by one and placing it on the bottom half of the fridge I have discovered a fun little game. My cat Sid likes to stretch, put his paws up on the fridge and hence, makes kitty poetry. So far we've got "emotional gossip". Fabulous if you ask me.

Felly is busy making a mush caserole of beef, instant mashed potatos, instant stuffing, and cream of corn soup. I can't wait. Seriously.

I really want to go home for the fair. The fair is practically in my backyard and have gone every year since I was 3. It is one of the home town kinda things where you see everyone you do and don't want to see along with the various carnies that acompany the rides and games. Last year Felly got hit on by the carnie who came up to her, conveniently shoving her rainbow armband in Felly's face and asked her to play her game. Hehe. For those of you who are interested the link is I don't know how to do the little link thingy...anyone wanna share?

Corner Kitty Litter Box

In our old house we had the ability to tuck oour kitty litter box away and not have to see it all the time. Now in this shoebox apt. we have been forced to put the litter box in the bathroom. I guess it will bring us closer together. Either way, there is effin kitty litter all over our bathroom floor which is not exactly the most pleasant of things to get stuck to ones feet after taking a shower. So while brainstorming on ways to fix said problem I came up with a corner kitty litter box. And yesterday we went to PetSmart and purhcased one with a lid, a swinging door and triangular shape so its fits snuggly into the corner of our bathroom. However, there is still effin kitty litter on the floor. Alas, what are two girls to do?

Ah! (e:fellyconnelly) just breazed by an old episode of Project Runway and it got me all excited. What gives? Where have Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum been hiding out? I neeeeeeeeed Project Runway!

Moving On. I have now less than two weeks of "vacation" left. On Monday I have orientation. Hehe, the last time I went to orientation I think I was a totally different human being. I was thinking about how, in many ways, New Paltz raised me. Can you really find out who you are until you are on your own? I don't know...either way, orientation on Monday, which I certainly need considering UB us effin huge and rather intimidating to a small town girl like me and because I still feel like I have absoltely no idea what I'm doing here. Then, Monday after next classes start and the fun begins. I haven't driven my car in over three weeks. Felly prefers to drive her car because my car has no AC, no CD player, and the passenger window doesn't go down, so we take her car everywhere we go. So needless to say, I haven't driven much in Buffalo. However, I like to drive and am looking forward to a nice little commute to school, that is at least till it starts to get cold outside. I hate the cold. Like, a lot.

Today's plans: AmVets and The Dollar Store. I can barely contain myself.

Catsup

I've been spending the last few minutes reading all the current journals and sorting out who's who. Felly is very busy playing some skateboarding game with sweet punk music in the background. She has been hogging the computer all morning long while I cry secretly about all the pit bulls that have to be put down because they have been raised for dog fighting and have "dog aggression". And then they go and play this commercial with all these cute little kitten and puppy faces and some sad song in the background....ahhh, I'm a sucker. Moving on.

After our trip out into the real world last night, Felly and I came home and I played Frogger for the first time in my life. Yes indeed, I have been living in a hole in the ground for the last 24 years. I am one of those people who is always the last to find out about the coolest new shit, whether it be because I don't care or possibly because I am too concerned with the last cool thing I just discovered that came out like 3 years ago. Either way, I played Frogger and discovered that I enjoy it a great deal and found myself being rather competitive, which is weird for me because I hate sports and for the most part hate competition, but I think Felly thought it was cute. She still kicked my ass.

Speaking of which, I know it might be a little early for this yet, but the one sport I do enjoy is skiing and I recently got Felly to fall in line. Anyone here ski...or snowboard? I can't snowboard for shit because I refuse to learn after one initial attempt and a week's worth of bruised ass cheeks, but I still think it's really cool and am jealous because of the cool boots you get to wear. Either way, we need a place that has some easy hills for Felly and some fairly difficult ones for me, cause I like to go fast :)

Alright, looks like I can talk after all. I am excited for tonight's event at the Albright Knox. I have this thing where I tend to be afraid of going to new places, so it's always good to have someone coming along who knows what they are doing. Also, Felly's birthday is on Sunday...any suggestions of a nice, not too expensive place to take her? I would like a place with an outdoor option if it is nice weather, but am really open to suggestions, even off the strip. I know she is going to read this but that's fine. I keep saying, so uh, where you wanna go? and not getting anywhere, so I thought I'd throw it out there to you folks.

Okeedokee. Peace out.
