Are you going to eat that?!?!?

I just finished a can of smoked oysters, and while eating up the last morsel of oyster, I thought about how many people would find my love of unusual foods quite disgusting.

So, I thought I would come up with a list of the stuff I like to eat, that would qualify as pretty nasty for some.

1.canned oysters (with hot sauce)
2.sardines(canned)
3.smoked fish (any kind)
4.ham hocks (especially the blubber)
5.pickle soup (seriously, there is such a thing, and it's really good for a hangover)
6.pickled herring
7.picked wild mushrooms (refer to below)
8.wild mushrooms in cream sauce (really wild mushrooms, that I pick myself from the forest. I know that people here don't pick wild mushrooms, but in Europe everyone does)
9.steak tartar (which is totally raw, not heated or cooked, with raw egg yolk, onions, pickle, touch of mustard, oil)
10.gelatinous ham hock bits with carrots (this is a solid gelatin thing that sets over night that you eat with vinegar)
11.beet soup
12. mashed beets, with horseradish or without, with cream or without, hot or cold
13. solid bacon lard spread on bread
14. liverwurst (on bread)
15. headcheese
16. although i'm not a huge fan, but I've done it a few times......bone marrow (cooked) form a shank of veal or beef.

Funny thing is my daughter looooves all this stuff too.

I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting, but I'm kinda hungry...so gotta go!

Please, anyone, if you have anything to add to the list, feel free to do so, I would love to know what kind of other stuff people eat! I hope I'm not all alone, but I fear that I may be...hee hee.

Dirty Girl

I've been having dirty dreams for the past few nights. The night before last, I had a lesbian lover and last night I dreamt I had two guys all to myself.

The school pressure is getting to me....I just want it to be over!!!!

Maybe I just need to get laid, maybe it'll help clear my mind and I'll get these stupid assignments done.

New job and London

So I have a new job

I will be working as a research technician at the University at Buffalo Research Institute on Addictions. Its only a part time position since I refuse to work full time while being still in school, but they did offer. My kid and a personal life mean too much to me and I am not one of those people who can do 5 things at once. Plus, I'm kinda lazy. But the good news is; even tho this is a part time position, I get full benefits. YAY!!! When does that ever happen.

Because I have to start this new job on January 3rd, I decided I must go on vacation. I'm done with school after this weekend, after I turn in all my late shit, so, next Sunday I'm going to London. Sunday to Friday. I'm totaly stoked. I went last year in January and had perfect weather, I can't wait to go to Harrod's during xmas time!

Anthony-My secret lover

Does anyone else have a crush on Anthony Bourdain from the Travel Channel?

He swears, he drinks, he smokes, and he's got a snide sense of humor. My kind of man.

Back from TO

Ok, back from Toronto!

The trip was interesting. I was by far the youngest person on the trip, but that's all right with me. I could not take any pics of the exhibit, the guards were roaming around like the KGB, shaking anyone down that dared to take out a cell phone or camera. The exhibition was on Catherine the Great, and the key piece was her carriage

It was so beautiful. Definitely worth seeing.

We are all sick in my house. My daughter's sick, running a fever of 103, my boyfriend is claiming to be sick, after spending Saturday night with me, and of course I am still sick, after a week of snots and phlegm and hacking.

My huge classification project is finished, which leaves me with the following to turn in by Thursday

Application Exercise 8
Collection Development Policy
Scholarly Article
Selection Policy Critique
Practice Exercise 5 (due today)

Not panicking or anything....

Winner's Update

So it looks like the other winner of the contest forfeited. As a result, I got both spots on the trip, so I get to take a guest! I am so exited! I decided to take my mom and use this as her birthday gift. Hey, if you're broke you've got to be creative. For the included dinner I chose the lobster tail, she chose the rack of lamb. I will post pics and an update when I return from my Toronto adventure.

This comes as a nice break from all the grad school projects that are piled on my shoulders (which are all due next Thursday). I just finished a 43 page classification project, WHEW!

ps. I am feeling kind of lucky today, maybe its time to play the Lotto.

In response to Robin's post

I think the question to ponder here is, are women in positions of power expected to behave differently than men historically have? It is perhaps a misconstrued notion that women are supposed to be nurturers and caregivers, operate with kindness and consideration and thwart off corruption and abuse of power.

Historically women, who have held positions of great power, have not been so nice. Contemporary leaders such as Thatcher, Imelda Marcos and Indira Gandhi have shown to be just as cold as their male counterparts. I won't even delve into historical female leaders, but they don't fear well either. Why these women behave the way they do is up for speculation. Maybe they have something to prove in a male dominated world. Maybe it is just human nature, male or female, to fall under the spell of absolute power.

Nevertheless, I think it is wrong to expect women to behave differently than men do, because of their perceived and perhaps imposed, "nurture" expectations. I personally resent when people expect me to behave "womanly". Caring and nurturing does not come to me naturally, and I resent those who assume it does. We don't teach our daughters to covet power, to appreciate it, and to desire it. Our boys know how to do that. They are taught through sports, in school, in political offices, and even through and in, interpersonal relationships.

I can guarantee you things would be a lot different if we taught boys to be kind, giving, gentle and nurturing while teaching girls to be aggressive, challenging and just plain hungry. Maybe the playing fields would even out a bit.
